What is 'faith alone'?

Once again, this is a straw man of what is meant by faith alone. As I stated already, please first learn what faith alone actually means. Not a single person on these forums is saying that Christians don't need to do works. The entire point is that our works do not save us.
so it don't mean faith and it don't mean alone?

so it don't mean "faith alone"?

i can't read your mind!

what does it mean?

thks

Last time: learn what it actually means. You can read any of the numerous posts on these forums which explain it or do a simple Internet search.

Justification is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Salvation is entirely of God, from beginning to end, and as such is only by his grace (grace alone). It is entirely by his goodness and something that we do not deserve and cannot work for:

Rom 9:16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. (ESV)

This grace can be received only through faith (faith alone) in Christ and his work, not through a single work of our own.

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)

Our works do not save us. To say that even one work is necessary is to teach salvation by works, and Paul says that anyone who teaches that works save us is to be considered anathema, that is, accursed (Gal. 1:6-10).

where does scripture say "living faith"?

is one microscopic act of faith for one second make you saved?

are you saved the first moment you believe?
there is mere belief - even demons believe, yet tremble

then their is living faith, a confident assurance, a trust, a respect.

Jesus said we must be born again

when nicodemus asked us how. Jesus answered him.

10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man [b]who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

we also have in john 4. ask and you will recieve living water flowing to eternal life

John 5. Whoever sees and believes has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

John 6. The livinbg bread which one can eat and never die, they will never hunger or thirst. Have eternal life. live forever. and be raised on the last day.

Do you have faith in God and his promise based on the cross?

we

james 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

james 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

james 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

james 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? No! not faith alone!
1 cor 13:2 even all faith without charity avails nothing
three are eternal faith hope and charity! 1 cor 13:13

"faith alone"
is impossible!

thks

james 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

works are the life of faith!
why do you people keep going to james as if that proves your point

Take james with romans 4.. James was written to people who are hears and not doers. and told them to test their own faith..

Romans 4 is the passage you all need to focus on, because romans 4 is directed to you

they need to have their works count, just like the pharisee did.

can you explain these verses in light of the doctrine of "faith alone"?

matt 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

1 tim 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Hebrews 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

1 Peter 4:18
And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

when you can explain romans 4. Eph 2: 8-9 Titus 3: 5. John 3, John 4 John 5 John 6 and John 1 and John 7 and the many other passages WHICH SAY WE ARE SAVED BY THE GRACE OF GOD. NOT BY WHAT WE DO

the bible can not contradict. so when you explain those verses. you will see what

its the work of God that WE BELIEVE

who is doing the believing?

We are the ones who must believe.

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” John 6:29

Do you realize that the biblical word believe carry’s the idea of obey?

IOW’s if you believe Jesus is LORD, but you don’t obey Him as LORD, then your believing is useless.

If Jesus teaches us that we must forgive if we want to be forgiven, and we believe this, but don’t actually forgive people who have done us wrong, then our believing is useless.

Furthermore we are still in our sins, and if we die that way we will be lost.

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36 NKJV

He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36 NASB

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

no. we confess BECASUSE we repented.

You will never confess jesus unless you repent. and no. we are saved by grace through faith

The tax collector was saved, he did nto confess Jesus as lord. He cried out for his mercy

Confess..

It does not say confess Jesus is lord.

Sounds like you have your own opinion and have closed your mind to what the scriptures say.

Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Be blessed.

We are the ones who must believe.

yes, and it is Gods work that brings us to this faith, hence he gets the honor and glory. not us

Ahh, Your legalism strikes through

You can obey a million commands, it will not cause God to forgive one of your sins

Why won't you give your eternity to God

John 3

He who believes is not condemned

he who does not believe is already condemned

No.

Not of works lest anyone should boast. (eph 2)

if Abraham was found by works, he has something to boast (romans 4)

It is if faith so it may be by grace (romans 4)

it if is by grace, it is no longer of works. otherwise grace is no longer grace (romans 11)

Not by works of righteousness, but by his mercy he saved us (titus 3)

I have so many more

when you can explain romans 4. Eph 2: 8-9 Titus 3: 5. John 3, John 4 John 5 John 6 and John 1 and John 7 and the many other passages WHICH SAY WE ARE SAVED BY THE GRACE OF GOD. NOT BY WHAT WE DO

the bible can not contradict. so when you explain those verses. you will see what
eph 2 refers to the redemption Christ accomplished apart from us!

titus and Jn 3:5 refers to baptism
Jn 3:22 they immediately went to the river and baptized!!

matt 28:19 Jm 4:1 eph 4:5 gal 3:27 all (((baptism)))

rom 4:7 sins covered
all sins are washed away in baptism acts 22:16
