You mean heavenly accounts? I don't subscribe to just anything. But I do hold the accounts I quote from as genuine.
Yes, I'm not sure what "heavenly accounts" are really from heaven, when I'm not receiving the revelations directly myself? But that's where discernment comes in, as well as comparing the revelation in visions from the revelation given in Scriptures.
I would hardly dismiss Nebuchadnezzar's Dream or Daniel's Dream only because I did not have the dream myself! But I maintain a healthy suspicion towards claimed visions precisely because the Scriptures warn us of such.
When it comes to the afterlife and to demons, I have to weigh their value to our Christian lives. I do recognize that delving into New Age philosophy and occultic experience can have its dangers and drawbacks.
Yes, and you mentioned Paul. He recommended people get married if they could not contain, but his actual stress was on maintaining celibacy when possible.
I don't personally think Paul was emphasizing celibacy except to those who were given that ability by God. The inference is that most people are *not* given that gift because it is known that the Jews considered it almost mandatory that couples have children and fulfill the 1st great commandment to Man, to "multiply and fill the earth."
Paul's emphasis was keeping a healthy proportion of service to the Kingdom of God, as opposed to less-valuable activities. That being said, God also placed a high premium on rest and recreation. ;)
And self-restraint was the tenor of his teaching on all things, including the eating of meats and all things related to the flesh. I think he ate only rarely, because he testified in a couple of places that he fasted often.
However, the Jewish feasts were lavish and nearly unrestrained in food indulgence. Getting fat was considered almost evidence of God's blessing your household!
But I think Paul was trying to set an example of self-control, modesty, and focus on spiritual things. Excesses in the material world have a way of grabbing our attention and wasting our resources. Thanks.
