Daniel's Seventy Weeks

This was an explantion I was giving to my brother on who I think the "Anointed One" was in Dan 9, and what I think the Aboination of Desolation was. I believe the term was used to apply to Antiochus 4 in one place, and here in Dan 9 differently.

My view is not that the Anointed One is a priest--lots of explanations have been given me in the distant past. And I don't think the Anointed One is even a ruler of some kind, who comes after 7 Weeks. I know the Messiah did not come after 7 Weeks, but it is stated that 7 Weeks must happen before he comes, and it did happen before he came.

Then it is stated that 62 more Weeks must happen before he comes/starts his ministry. The break between the 7 Weeks and the 62 Weeks simply indicates to me that there is a division between the time when the building ends and the temple service begins in a more completed sense.

But it's awkward. The only explanation I have for it is that the Anointed One is the objective of the 7 Weeks period--not that he appears at that time. He is inserted as the objective of the 7 Weeks precisely because that is what the 2nd Temple is built for. But then there is this period of 62 Weeks in which the Temple worship awaits the coming, and demise, of the Messiah.

So I see the Messiah mentioned after 7 Weeks and the Messiah "cut off" as being the same Messiah. The ruler of the people to come must be, I think, the Roman Army. I think the "ruler" is the generic Roman ruler--whoever is the specific person in charge at the time.

His people "destroy the city and the sanctuary," and so are an "army," as Jesus indicated in Luke 21. This is, I believe, the "Abomination of Desolation" because pagans who violated sacred territory would be considered an "abomination." And they "desolated" Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD.

This is the "Army" that accomplished that, which Jesus said would surround Jerusalem," or is described by Mark as "standing where it does not belong." This sounds, to me, like a military siege. One version in Dan 9 indicates that the AoD was "set up at the Temple." This also sounds like a military siege, assuming a position around the walls of Jerusalem.

I do believe the Church Fathers couldn't settle on precisely what the "abomination" was because an "abomination" is often associated with an object that profanes the Temple, such as Antiochus 4 did. But a Roman Army could defile a temple area just as well.

The idea that Antiochus defiled the Temple itself by inserting an idol into it or by sacrificing a pig there probably made some of the Church Fathers think that the AoD had to be an object that is put into the Temple to defile it.

Clearly, Daniel places prophecy about Antiochus 4 right next to these other prophecies about 70 AD and the Antichrist. So I can't blame the Church Fathers for misunderstanding what the "abomination" was! They probably thought the word had to be used in the same way it applied with Antiochus 4?

But I've argued before that just standing around the Temple walls is an act of profaning the Temple, because the entire area of Jerusalem was dedicated to Temple worship. By standing "where they don't belong" the Roman Army was laying siege and thus profaning the Temple area.

The people of the ruler to come therefore was an Army, as I see it, regardless of the confusion over whether it was an object in the Temple or not. The Church Fathers generally agreed on the time period, which would've been in the vicinity of 70 AD. And we can agree on that.

I hope this clarifies how I interpret this?

The seven year great tribulation, which is not found anywhere in scripture, was derived by mans misinterpretation of Daniel 9:24-27. This is what the Bible clearly reveals about the seventy weeks. From vs.24 to vs.27 was seventy weeks or 490 days (490 prophetic years when you add a day for a year principle), beginning with Ezra, Ezra chapter 1-6, rebuilding the temple to the time of the Messiah (Jesus Christ) being fulfilled in His birth, death and resurrection. In a sense it was a literal and spiritual temple that was being built. Ezra was teaching the people of the spiritual temple of God that indwelled in all that believed in God and of the coming of Messiah. There was actually a four hundred year span from Ezra till the birth of Jesus that God shut himself off from Israel because of their transgressions towards the Lord, Malachi Chapter 4, but saved a remnant that would believe in the coming of Messiah, Isaiah 10. As still today, God still waits for National Israel to repent and believe in the name of Jesus as they still follow Judaism.

Daniel 9:24-27 the Vision of the Seventy Weeks

Vs. 24 this verse shows us that the timing from Ezra to the cross was 490 days (490 Prophetic years) as within that time Ezra was reestablishing the law in Jerusalem until Jesus had fulfilled the end of transgression, made an end to sin, made reconciliation for iniquity and bring everlasting righteousness and to seal up the prophecy to fulfill parts of the law through the cross.

Vs. 25 from the time of the cross, which also means the last days, which includes what some like to separate and call The Great Tribulation, which is not mentioned anywhere in scripture and is not a separate event after the elect of God are caught up, but as the last days so we are in tribulation times until the end of the world as we know it, Acts 2:17; Hebrews 1:1,2; Matthew 24:4-31; Mark 13:24-31; Luke 21:5-36. These are just some of the scriptures that support that we will go through all things of Rev Chapter 6-21. Everyone will have opportunity to come unto salvation through Jesus Christ if they would only believe until the door of salvation is closed when Jesus returns on the last day, which after this time no one can be saved, Matthew 25:10.

Vs.26 after 434 years that end in the year AD29 shall Messiah be cut off. Jesus was crucified after he was baptized in AD 29 three and a half years later. Jesus was cut off (killed) by the people of the Romans under Vespasian their prince that the Pharisees, Sanhedrin and the high priest who have favor with that destroy the city and the sanctuary (meaning Christ) and the end thereof shall be with a flood (Gods wrath) that will put an end to abominations by desolation or in other words a ruin to evil deeds. Daniel 9:27 explains the definitions of desolation of abominations or the ruin of evil deeds. There is no actual Desolations of Abominations where a so called Antichrist (emphasis on the capitol "A") will take a literal throne, but the desolation will be when the son of perdition, being the false prophet/last antichrist, tries to take his throne in Jerusalem, Daniel 11:36-45. Gods word never defines one great Antichrist, but says there are many antichrists, 1John2:18; 11 Thessalonians 2:1-12; Revelation 11:7. The seven years that some call the seven year tribulation means three and a half years beginning with the first six seals being the beginning of sorrows (first woe). The last three and a half years starting with the (second woe) with the sounding of the first trumpet and ending with the seventh trumpet that includes everything else written in Revelations that includes the time of Christ return for His Bride in Rev 19 up to the end when Satan is cast into the lake of fire with the beast and the false prophet and ends with the new Jerusalem being ushered down as then we will be with the Lord forever.

Vs.27 the 70th seven began with Christ baptism in AD 29 and three years later at the end of the first half of the 70th seven sacrifices and offering ceased because Christ hung on the cross. From the giving of the law in 458BC when Ezra went to establish the law, or to rebuild the spiritual city right to the cross where the first 69 sevens. The 70th seven is from the time of the cross until Jesus comes back in the air to call his Bride home and for the overspreading of abominations he will make desolate, or make an end to all who would not believe.

During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times. The last siege and destruction of the 2nd Temple and the wall was in 70AD as a revolt led by Titus as he broke through the walls and destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem. The wall and the Temple were never rebuilt, nor will it be in the future. The Temple mount laid waste until the Dome of the Rock was built on it in 691AD by the caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. The Islamic control over the Dome of the Rock will never surrender the original temple mount back to the Jews.

The last decree to build and restore Jerusalem, including the building of the second Temple that took 49 days/49 prophetic years, came around 538BC with the decree given to Ezra by King Cyrus. Through much oppositions the city, walls and the second Temple were completed on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius II around 417BC as he reigned from 423BC to 404BC, Ezra Chapter 1-6. This was part of the vision given to Daniel as the full prophecy given to him is found in Daniel Chapters 9-12.

During the first six trumpets we read all the destruction that will befall earth and its inhabitants during God's great wrath being poured out into the world on those who are none of Christ as they refuse to repent. This will be worldwide which will cause much chaos and great fear in the hearts of those who have no understanding, Hosea 4:6, 7. They will be seeking a type of savior, yet rejecting the very Savior, Christ Jesus, who wants to save them.

During the sounding of the seventh trumpet they will accept this deceptive savior who is the son of perdition, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12, who will take his seat in Jerusalem on the very Temple Mount where the Dome of the Rock sits and even now is being refurbished. He will try and rule the nations for 3 1/2 years causing all to bow down and take its mark as he promises peace and safety displaying lying signs and wonders claiming he is God. Those who refuse will be taken captive and dealt with as many Christians will either become a slave or die a martyr's death, Rev 13.

Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand),…
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. Matthew 24:15,21

“Seventy weeks are determined
For your people and for your holy city,
To finish the transgression,
To make an end of sins,
To make reconciliation for iniquity,
To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,
And to anoint the Most Holy.
“Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
The street shall be built again, and the wall,
Even in troublesome times.
“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”
Daniel 9:24-27

7 weeks
62 weeks

We see the language that Jesus used is associated with the 70th and final one week.

The great tribulation is three and a half years.

The middle of the 70th week.
What do you perceive the horn to be?

Can you explain in detail what the final week is all about?

I can share from the scriptures the part I see.

I don’t know if that will be “detailed” enough but I will share.

The 70th week will be focused on the Jewish people and Jerusalem. That is what the 70 weeks are about, Daniel’s people and city.

“Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city…

The first 69 weeks were fulfilled at the event called “Messiah the Prince”.

This is what has come to be known as “Palm Sunday” when Jesus rode into Jerusalem and the whole city erupted in praise crying out Hossanna to the son of David.

After this, 5 days later He was cut off.

Now begins what is known as the times of the Gentiles which is a time when God focuses on extended salvation to the Gentiles; bringing the Gentiles into the Covenant.

And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
Luke 21:24

The time will come and there will be a third temple built during the 70th week, whereby sacrifice and offering will resume.

The “prince who is to come” will put an end to sacrifice and offering and set up an image, an abomination of desolation in the holy place in which as Paul and Daniel say… will proclaim himself as God.

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

“Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done. Daniel 11:36

Until this happens the 70th has not been fulfilled.

What do you perceive the horn to be?

The little horn is the antichrist.

Prince Charles of Wales is a likely candidate but I don’t know for sure.

Wales is a little country and that would make him a little power; horn

The heraldic symbol of Wales became the Red Dragon when Prince Charles of Wales became 13 and was crowned Prince of Wales.

Now of course he is king of England which is also a relatively small country.

It’s also interesting to note that it has been said Prince Charles of Wales adds up to 666 in both Hebrew and Greek.

This are some things that tend align him with being the little horn.

Whether he is or not is up for discussing.

I’m just sharing some things I have learned.

During the dark ages many believe the Pope was the antichrist because the Pope comes from Rome and it is the “people” (the Roman’s) of the prince who is to come who destroyed the city and temple.

Just my two cents.

The time will come and there will be a third temple built during the 70th week, whereby sacrifice and offering will resume

There will never be a third Temple built by hands, Acts 7:48; Acts 17:24. When the veil of the Temple was torn from top to bottom after Jesus gave up the ghost, Matthew 27:50, 51, this symbolized that the sacrifice of Jesus and the shedding of his blood was now made for the atonement of sin and that all, Jew and Gentile, can come before Him as He is the only way to the Father, John 14:6.

There is no more veil for the Priest to enter into the Holy of Holies once a year to make atonement for Israel's sin nor is there any more animal sacrifices as we are no longer under the Old Covenant nor the preaching of the law, but are under a new and better covenant of Gods grace through Christ Jesus as our High Priest, Hebrews 4:14-16. Jesus prophesied of the Temple being desolate and that no one will see Him again until His time comes meaning when He returns on the last day, Matthew 24:1, 2; Luke 13:34, 35, John 6:40.

God no longer dwells in a Temple made by hands and this is why God left it desolate all these years when it was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. Now the Dome of the Rock sits on part of the Temple Mount and was built around 692 AD. The Muslims will never give it over to Israel, plus the Dome of the Rock is being refurbished for the son of perdition (not a Muslim man) to come and sit on his throne and will cause a great falling away from truth, Isaiah 14:12-14; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12.

Jesus fulfilled everything the temple stood for being the last sacrificial lamb taking away all the sin of the world. God no longer dwells in a temple made by hands, Acts 7:48-50; 17:22-31; Hebrews 10:7-18

There will never be a third Temple built by hands, Acts 7:48; Acts 17:24.

“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: Acts 7:48

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Acts 17:24

Sorry, but these scriptures don’t say there will never be a third temple.

The men who build the third temple are doing so because they have rejected the True Messiah.

God is sending a strong delusion to these people.

The temple is the place of the strong delusion.

The antichrist is the person of the strong delusion.

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

Now begins what is known as the times of the Gentiles which is a time when God focuses on extended salvation to the Gentiles; bringing the Gentiles into the Covenant.
The fullness of the Gentiles makes up all of Israel that will be saved. As Ephraim mixed himself up with other nations that was a foreshadowing of the Gentiles being grafted into Israel meaning all of Israel will be saved that have faith in God as being part of the covenant God made with Abraham, Genesis 12:1-3; 48:17-19; Hosea 7:8. Jesus told the Apostles to proclaim the Gospel first in Jerusalem, then Judea, then Samaria and then to the ends of the world, Acts 1:8; 8:14-17, Samaria is the fulfillment of the restoration of Israel as both Jew and Gentiles both dwelt there.

“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: Acts 7:48

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Acts 17:24

Those verses say that God will not honor or dwell in a third Temple as now we who are of faith in God and His Son Christ Jesus are the Temple of God, 1Corinthians 3:16. Those Jews that are not Christ own can build a third Temple, but yet continue to wait for their Messiah who already came and then ascended up to heaven to sit at the right hand of God, but will return for those who are truly His own.

I’m sorry but this statement makes no sense to me.
Read Romans 11:11-36 and Galatians 3:24-29 as there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile as we who are of faith are Abraham's seed (faith) and heirs of the promises. Other words we who are of faith being grafted into the branch become part of God's covenant becoming the body of Christ with Jesus being the head of the body. The grafting is a free gift of God's grace to all who will receive His grace.

Unbelieving Jews who reject Jesus as Messiah desire to build the third temple.

They believe if they build it, he (their messiah) will come.

And he certainly will.

Unfortunately for them it will be the false messiah; the man of sin, the lawless one.

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. You keep saying “God doesn’t dwell it temples made of hands”.

No one says otherwise.

The elephant in the room is God is the One sending the strong delusion.

God is allowing the antichrist to pose as the Messiah and work false signs and wonders on purpose, to bring about a strong delusion. Because they stubbornly reject Jesus Christ as the true Messiah.

God Himself is doing these things.

God Himself is allowing the Third Temple to be built for this very purpose.

If you choose to ignore this then that’s on you.

I never said God will dwell in a third Temple. If they want to build one it is only because they know not Christ Jesus.

Exactly. The don’t love the true Messiah.

They don’t love the truth.

They don’t believe.

God is sending them a strong delusion.

why would God "send" them a strong delusion?

because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
