Bible Study What did Jesus feel?

My question is in regards to Matthew 9:10-26.

The verse I want to focus on is 24. The mourners made fun of Jesus.

How did that make Jesus feel? Hurt? Embarrassed? Sad that they didn't believe in Him?

I know this is speculation, but what do you think? And how can you relate?

They made fun of Jesus because he brought the girl back from the dead. They didn't believe that Jesus could do that.

I have been laughed at before because of my looks. I look different than people. I have been called "Bart Simpson" if you get my drift.

Embarrassed, not likely. I am sure He felt compassion for those who were making fun of Him, but He was never embarrassed for doing His Father's work.

When we think of the sufferings which He endured at the Cross, other feelings must have paled in comparison.

It's good to reflect on His sense of divine purpose in all He did, despite the incomprehension of many of those He was with.

He probably understood why they laughed at Him. They knew death only as irreversible. And they were struck with grief over the dead girl, so Jesus' claim that she will wake up must have appeard like mockery to them, and Jesus probably knew that and didn't take offense in their laughter. We can assume Jesus had a healthy and stable self esteem, people laughing at Him wouldn't irritated Him or embarass Him in any way, especially as He knew why they couldn't have behaved any different.

I think it was a complete sense of the glory of God - Himself being God - that gave the Lord Jesus His perfect sense of purpose, not to be deflected from by the foolishness of men.

It's interesting mourners would laugh at his statement, I would think they would be offended or angered by what he said. Maybe they thought so little of him that he wasn't worth the anger, just dismissive laughter. I guess it isn't important why they laughed, just that they did laugh.
I guess he wouldn't have been human if he hadn't felt slightly hurt by their mockery. He was also God, with the power to heal. It doesn't say but I would have loved to seen the reaction when Jesus came out with her alive!

The unbelief of those who should have known better is kind of summerized in Isaiah 53.1: 'Who hath believed our report?'

And yet He went through with His sufferings to the end, in order to fulfil the Father's Redeeming purposes.

It was kind of a ridiculous statement. Oh she isn't dead, just asleep. Have you ever been to funeral. What if someone came in and told you that your loved one wasn't dead, only asleep. Wouldn't you think they were kind of "out there?" Jesus knew what he was going to do, so I would think He would be feeling the power inside Him at the time and slightly oblivious to the ridicule.

He being fully God, yet fully human it can be difficult to pin it down to one feeling. I think he felt compassion mostly. I really meant that he could relate to somebody feeling hurt, I hope I didn't give any impression he was weak. You're right, he knew what he was going to do and boldly did it.

Totally agree with you. I am sure He did feel like crying for them. I have been in situations where I thought I would be angry at someone, but something came over me and I just felt compassion for them because they were so lost. The Holy Spirit was telling me that we need to have compassion for those who do not understand Jesus and all the wonderful things He does for us.

The entire time Jesus was here He knew He was the fulfillment of Isaiah 53. For thousands of years mankind had been waiting for the promised seed, the deliverer the Messiah, and now here he was in their midst, His insides must have been tearing him apart..

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

I'm thinking this is how he felt..

John 11:35 Jesus wept.
