You all can say what you want about gun control, but I will say this; I do respect the value of human life. But if you break into my house late at night while I'm home sleeping, and I have a wife and kids to protect, my advice for you is to turn around and run because I do own a firearm (which I use for hunting) and I'm not afraid to use it to protect my family and I from harm. I respect human life, but once you have the intent to seriously hurt, rape or kill any of my family, I no longer consider you a human. I consider you a maggot. And I squash maggots under my feet.

That wasn't the case in the story I told. There was no thread, and by the way he was staggering around, it should have been obvious that the man was just a drunk and there was no need to kill him. In most cases where someone breaks into (or walks unhindered into, as in this case) a house, the reason is not to kill somebody, but to steal. Are your possessions so precious to you that you would kill for them?

Your story is very unique compared to most cases when someone enters a house uninvited. But if someone were to enter my house uninvited because he's drunk and doesn't know where he is, how am I supposed to know whether or not he's up to no good? Yes, my possessions can always be replaced, but my family cannot. Am I supposed to sit there with my tail between my legs and risk the lives of my family? That may work for you, but I am very protective to those I love and care for. If you have some responsibility (which seems to be a lost art nowadays), there's no reason to let substances control our behavior or just barge into someone's house uninvited.
