Here's a couple of minutes of Joel Osteen with Oprah.
What do you think?

I mean...he's got a nicer, softer touch, which I appreciate...he tells the truth about the Scripture's approach to homosexuality....

...I don't see a huge problem. Then again, I don't know that much about him.

Bad.He is a charismatic teacher. That goes along with Joyce Meyers.

Good for Joel. He has been wishy washy in the past when dealing with Larry King and others. But this time he was his kind self but spoke plainly that sin is sin and one must be forgiven.

Are you a follower of Joel's ministry?

No, I've only listened to him speak a couple of times and then short video like this one that others have pointed out.
I'm more interested in people who are more into teaching both the OT and NT.

When you listen to him speak do you like what he has to say?

I haven't listened to him enough to like or dislike what he says when he's preaching. It wouldn't be fair for me to do that.

Since Joel Osteen is a charismatic teacher who here is into charismatic teaching?

What is your description of charismatic?
The charismatic movement is very popular right now. They are most known for their accepance of speaking in tongues, divine healing and prophecies as evidence of the Holy Spirit.

I accept ALL the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including speaking in tongues, divine healing, and prophecy.

As evidence of the Holy Spirit - I don't know what you mean by that. Every believer has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

That clip seems to be unusually solid for Osteen, who--as it has been pointed out--has been very theologically weak in the past. My problem with Osteen has been that he teaches doctrines I disagree with, like prosperity gospel (also called the "health and wealth" gospel). He has often sacrificed truth in the name of love, in order to appeal to a larger audience. This clip does make me raise an eyebrow, because it's more theologically truthful than I remember Osteen being. Right or wrong, I still don't trust the man, which may have less to do with him than it does with me. I have a natural distrust of anyone who smiles that much (and that goes for Oprah, as well).
