What KJVO folk don't seem to grasp is that those they vehemently criticize may themselves actually be lovers of the King James who appreciate it greatly. (But anyway I'm sure she would see herself as having your best interests at heart.)

The funamentalist mindset has sometimes been described as Biblically doctrinal orthodoxy with a cult mentality. (Personally I dearly love the emphasis on truth and doctrine, but am puzzled at some of the 'Mickey Mouse' aspects.)

Yes, I think we kind of see chapters such as Ephesians 2 in a similar way. It's not unusual for people of a very broadly fundamentalist background to see things in this way.
BTW, do you think your mom was thinking of rock musicians when she started talking against piercings (other than ears)? kind of hard to figure what she would have been talking about, I guess.

Hi questdriven; I just saw your post about Christian hard rock. Interesting. You were saying that it's two years now since you've learned to appreciate Christian hard rock. It's nice when there can be a gentle and free exchange of reasoned views. (Same with a lot of subjects, really.) Blessings.
PS: Still there; what I would add is that though age for first tattoo is a secondary matter, it does take a great deal of planning and if moms urge initial caution this is a good thing, really. Take care.

Most moms think ear piercing is pretty benign, really (even for boys sometimes). Sometimes opinions differ a bit more about stuff such as tattoos, though a lot of moms themselves have them.
'Don't see how it'd be wrong', sorry, referring to ears pierced? Few would argue against it, anyway.
I know some moms make quite an issue of a whole variety of stuff, whether it's smoking (I don't advocate it anyway), or hair dyeing, getting earrings, height of heels, etc, but it really can vary a lot, and such things really aren't doctrinal at all, are they. Blessings.

Yes, I can tell this, from your various comments. And I think you felt that you weren't really getting enough sound doctrine at your previous church; or, at least, what went for doctrine was actually subjective application in preaching that wasn't particularly effective.
Anyway, nice that you have met other young people that you can identify with. I guess I would just suggest also that, if some of them - like you - appreciate Christian hard rock, then this is kind of nice for you, but almost peripheral in the Biblical scheme of things.

Well, this is good. Personally I think that doctrine in the end matters more than having people of one's age group, but then if the church is sound doctrinally this is great, too. Yes, my wife and I had a good, if exhausting trip. Blessings. -
