    Is praying to Jesus appropriate?

I understand that Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer as an example. However, it is not the only prayer listed in the Bible. And as someone previously mentioned, Jesus was still on earth when he gave us the Lord's Prayer (and the people on earth could speak to him directly). The Bible also says...

    Is praying to Jesus appropriate?

No, I do not pray to Jesus, but I'm wondering if it is wrong to do so because I know of others who do. One time, even our pastor did it in our church during congregational prayer. Just trying to find out the truth. This text seems to imply that it's not inappropriate to pray to Jesus by...

    Is praying to Jesus appropriate?

Thanks James - good text. Now I guess the big question is whether or not "calling on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord" and "praying to Jesus Christ our Lord" are the same thing. My husband says it's not the same but I wonder how a person would call on Jesus if not in prayer when he is no...

    Is praying to Jesus appropriate?

I ask this because my husband is very opposed to praying to Jesus. My husband feels that by giving us the model of the Lord's Prayer, Jesus is telling us not to pray to him but to the Father.

    Is praying to Jesus appropriate?

We are told in the Bible that Jesus is Lord. So should we pray to Him? Or should we only pray to the Father as indicated by Jesus in the Lord's Prayer? (when he was asked, how should we pray he gave the Lord's Prayer) Also, with regards to the Lord's prayer - the way I learned it has way more...

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

I'm curious, for those who attend denominations, it would be helpful if you could list the name of your denomination (if you are comfortable sharing) and what roles it allows women to have in that denomination. Or if you know of what denominations do (but don't currently attend them) and could...

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

I really appreciate the replies to this discussion topic. All my life I've been told that women in ministry and positions of authority within the church is wrong and I've often wondered about it but in our church there isn't a whole lot up for discussion - this is the way it is and there's not...

    Israel or Church?

I'm also curious - is there a reason you have put a dash in the word God and other words referring to Him? It's so hard to read when the spelling is so messy like that.

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

I looked it up online and found this: Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary 7. Andronicus and Junia-or, as it might be, "Junias," a contracted form of "Junianus"; in this case, it is a man's name. But if, as is more probable, the word be, as in our version, "Junia," the person meant was no...

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

Andronicus and Junias - is there evidence that one of these people is a woman? My Bible does not specify gender and since they are not modern names I am not familiar with whether these would be men or women. I checked my Bible Dictionary and Concordance and they do not specify this detail...

    Israel or Church?

Are you promoting the Jewish faith? I'm not sure what you are getting at. Jesus Christ was rejected by the Jews and therefore preached to the Gentiles. The Jews killed Jesus who was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophesies for the Messiah. The law was fulfilled by Jesus so we have no...

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

Another verse that I found about submission - Eph 5:21 "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ" So not only are women to submit to their husbands but we should ALL be submitting to each other. (I would guess even men to men, women to men, men to women, and women to women).

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

Here is what I found about overseers and deacons in I Tim 3 1Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer,[a] he desires a noble task. 2Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able...

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

Women are not to submit to all men, rather a wife is to submit to her husband. Eph 5:22-25 (NIV) "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to...

Women in Ministry and other leadership roles in the church?

Hi everyone, I did try to do a search but couldn't find anything about this in the forum. I come from a Reformed church that very strongly teaches that women are not to be in positions of authority in the church (based on Paul's teachings) as either Elders, Deacons, or Ministers. In our search...

    What to do...

wow, Hugs to you. That sounds awful. The first thing that comes to my mind is disease - I would be extremely concerned about disease if you are still intimate with him and he is in fact being intimate with others as you suspect. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

    Hi, new here

Hi everyone, nice to "meet" you all. I am hoping to connect with other Christians to discuss faith issues. My hubby and I have been married for almost 12 years and we have 3 beautiful children. We attend a Conservative Reformed church but lately have been feeling led to go a different direction...
