Science Fiction & Fantasy vs Christian Truth

It seems to me Christians distinguish between good fantasy (like Narnia) and bad fantasy (Harry Potter). Ones is considered a metaphor of the Christian world view, the other one seduces kids to perform witchcraft. That makes no sense.

    It's Snowing!

Sunny and warm enough to sit outside for work. Leaves keep falling on my keyboard and into my coffee, and the wifi connection is horrible, but at least I get fresh air and sunlight. I want my outdoor job back. :-( Anyone have any idea what areas of work require you to be outside almost all of...

    [_ Old Earth _] Pluto

All planets in our solar system were named after pagan Gods, most of the other planets' moons, and other stuff out there big enough to be named is named of ancient mythology figures. Does that really bother you? Btw, Pluto was removed from the list of planets 8 years ago. Welcome to 2006. :D

    College people, check in.

I'm a universitiy student again!! Yay!! My major is Psychology, I dropped out for metal health reasons (darn those stereotypes) some years ago and didn't know what to do with my life since, and now I actually got a chance to finish my degree. Money is a bit of an issue though.

Advice so People Have 1 Marriage

Sounds like a healthy and mature kind of love. :thumbsup Often Christians understand the "one flesh" thing as becoming totally one. Up to, and including, things like using the bathroom at the same time. :eekBut if there's no personal space left and you do become like one person, the other person...

    Milk Is Bad For You

Wait what? Milk is asociated with a higher rate of death? So they say that if I drink milk I may have a higher than 100% risk of dying some day? Or I may die more often than if I didn't drink milk? Sheesh that's some dangerous stuff, man. :-D ...or the author of that article messed something up.

    It's Snowing!

Nope, it doesn't. It's been cold-ish the last days, but no snow yet. Right now it's half cloudy, half sunny, looks like a rather nice day.

    It's Snowing!

You're lucky you're in the right St. Petersburg. If it was St. Petersburg, Russia, you'd have 40 F and rain today.

    [_ Old Earth _] Gravity ?

According to Einstein, movement is relative and only exists in relation to a reference point or reference system. So it's basically right to say the earth doesn't move if the earth is our point of reference. In that case the sun would rotate around us, along with the rest of the solar system...

    Lying

Actually I would want my partner to tell the truth. He may be a little more diplomatic about it though. ;-) Well I get the joke about wifes being unwilling to hear the truth to a question they asked. But in reality the husband would risk that his wife makes a fool out if herself wearing...

[_ Old Earth _] Evolution is not science

Isn't controversy part of why discussion forums exist?

[_ Old Earth _] Evolution is not science

It's not that simple. The Bible consists of many different kinds of books. Some are reports (like the gospels), while others are works of poetry like the Psalms or the Song of Solomon. Even Jesus uses parables - metaphors that aren't literally true - to make His points. So since not all of the...

[_ Old Earth _] Evolution is not science

Actually yes it does. Both the Theory of Evolution and the Big Bang Theory make predictions that are testable. For example if life forms evolved the way they are assumed to, you would expect to find similarities in organs, bone structures, genetics and so on. And that's a hypothesis you can...
