    Is Alistair Begg Right?

Is it then that voting for a political candidate that is a serial adulterer, a sexual predator, a liar, a proven fraud, etc., etc., also endorsing, supporting, and affirming such sinful perversion?

    Is Alistair Begg Right?

What is the distinction between Begg's narrow advise to to a grandmother regarding her grandson, and those Christians who give approval, endorsement, and support to a serial adulterer, sexual predator, proven liar, etc., etc.? Begg has been a faithful teacher of the gospel for decades and has...

    Moral beliefs

Fossil Genera - "You at least have a concept of God," seems to imply that there is believed to be a higher state of human knowledge of God beyond concepts. I don’t believe it requires a necessary higher state but may be at the outset innate. There are a number of books on the theory of mind’s...

ObjMoVa -just a quick note that the thread is getting difficult to wend through...perhaps I will back away for awhile. I said perhaps.... : ) I appreciate that it is of little value to you when one quotes from a book that you question the veracity of... and at times on many forums it is a...

    Moral beliefs

ObjMoVa - I have yet to be shown compelling evidence for the existence of the supernatural. That is another discussion. I will just add that the very same evidence, data, and facts one uses to interpret a naturalistic conclusion, can support a Biblical conclusion. I'm often told to prove that...

    Moral beliefs

ObjMoVa - Yes, I strongly agree with the writings of Sam Harris. I do not think all morality is relative. But I believe that this foundation can, and does, exist without requiring the word of god to tell us so. Although the area of “Moral Landscapes” is not typically an area of discussion for...

    Moral beliefs

ObjMoVa - Well incest negatively impacts us on a genetic level. Children born of incest (in any species) have a much higher rate of defects that reduce their ability to survive. We have evolved to be off-put by incest because it damages our species genetically. As an aside I recall a discussion...

    Moral beliefs

ObjMoVa - But isn't re-drawing the line key to our moral growth as a society? I would ask if that line (morality) necessitates “growth” or brought to it’s proper place? Put another way does morality change over time or does what was morally dismissed (in general) in the past retain it’s...

    Moral beliefs

ObjMoVa- They claim there would be no right or wrong without God. I cannot help but disagree. I once heard a Rabbi talking about morality. He suggested that anyone being raised in a Judeo-Christian culture would by virtue of that pervasive morality conform to that standard, regardless of...

    [_ Old Earth _] Biologos

Barbarian - Dismayed at the idea that one had to deny science to believe in God, in 2007, Collins founded the Biologos Foundation, dedicated to the idea that science and God are not incompatible. Very much agree with all of the points...though #11 is a considerable undertaking at times.

    We Are In Trouble Now

Christian Sharia Law in America Then of course there is Christian Dominionism and Rafael Cruz, Ted's father. "The theological ethos of Rafael Cruz’s vision is in Christian dominionism; he talks about preaching a “message of dominion” that all Christians have received an “anointing as kings.” I...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

Perhaps a more focused starting point in an effort to engage an understanding of “pacifism” is to define “separate”... as in separate from the world. How we define this disconnect from the world will better enable us to put meaning as to the role of a Christian in a fallen world. In defining...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

Are you sure this is the passage you meant to quote? My mistake John 15:13.......... I think you’re missing my point. I’m not opposing war, I’m saying it’s not the Christians place. So war is “justified” in some instances but never for Christians? What America does with its money is not my...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

Butch5 -What does the amount of money America spends on defense have to do with Christians? If Christians are absolutely opposed to war wouldn't it logically follow that Christians should oppose military spending? Since you don't participate in the "system" you are still somewhat complicit in...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

Butch5 - Christian American? Aren't we one or the other? No, actually a reasonable description of a person would involve a considerable amount of info. I referenced "American" simply because we spend so much more than other countries on defense. You spoke of an unjust aggressor, how do you...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

WIP -Jesus did nothing wrong yet when the people ridiculed him, spit on him, slapped him, punched him, beat him, whipped him, scourged him, mocked him, tortured him, and then killed him by crucifixion he did not fight back. What does that say to us? That Jesus had a distinct purpose to suffer...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

Butch5 - Well, if pacifism was the predominate view during WWII I guess we would have had to rely on God for our protection. Pacifism was the predominate view in the church for the first 300 years of its existence. Reminds me of that old joke. The police come to the pastor/priest's home and...

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

    Butch5 - Why? Why Not?

Should every Christian be a Pacifist?

We should be thankful that pacifism wasn't a majority view in WWII. I see no scripture relevant to one not defending oneself when someone intends bodily harm or worse. I wonder how many police and/or soldiers would need to leave their service if this was a dogmatic view.
