1+ 1 = 4

A crafty mathematician tells his beginning math students that 1 + 1 = 4.

They all say, “No!†but the mathematician knows more about math than they and puts forth an argument that they cannot refute.

Finally all the students agree with the mathematician, “One plus one DOES equal four.â€

evolution debate.

evolution debate.

Yup, sounds like what creationists do when propagandising against the theory of evolution. Since most people do not know much about biology, creationist arguments sound reasonable in a vacuum.

dont you meant the vague term of information used by the evolutionists, ask one and you never get the same answer.

i have seen that here and also the workings of natural selection.

my bro isnt a college major nor ever went to learn biology showed it to me more plainly then any athiest here could.

simple he reads up on it.

that and a old bio/life science professor that no longer teaches and is a creationists helped from time to time.

1+1 can equal 4 in advanced theory and chemistry and things like that. The common allegory 1+1=2 is used to express a common simplicity in the natural world. Those who try to say "aha! but 1+1 can equal 4" are just playing semantics and are allowing the point to go over their head in service to technicality.

Hovind asked an evolutionist who kept saying he just didn't understand how evolution theory works... He said "what if I could find someone with 7 PH.D's" (including ones in the relevant fields) and said he did not believe in evolution. The evolutionist said that person with the 7 ph.ds opinion wouldnt matter and his opinion would still be disqualified.

In short, people who don't believe in evolution automatically do not "understand" it. Trap door.

It's not our fault that creationist still claim that evolutionist theory posits humans are descended from moneys. Or that evangelists like Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort think transitional fossils must look like a chimera with a crocodile head and a bird body. Evolutionary theory has evolved (pun intended) beyond Charles Darwin, and creationists have a tendency to focus on critiquing his beliefs, instead of modern science. This becomes frustrating when trying to have an adult conversation. :shrug

odd, most of the creationists i listen teach in colleges and are members of the icr. or run an idependent creationist site themselves.

i listen to icr on the radio when i can and they have guest professors that will talk about the the toe and compare.

Sure there are people who think evolution teaches we are descended from monkeys and not more like "cousins" of them... Sure some like Ray and Kirk misrepresent the ToE, but that doesn't justify when people act as if ALL creationists do not/are incapable of/or simply will not understand the proper tenets of evolution. Also, that is just an example of bad teaching and misinformation.

Most of the people who make claims like "I ain't descended from no monkey" are from a slightly older generation and most of them were not taught it in school with the same detail as our generation was. I would venture to also add that a large portion of the people who make comments like that actually know it is inaccurate but say it for the effect and for the sake of being boisterous. "My ancestors may have swung by the neck, but they didn't swing by the tail."

When I made my comment, I was referring to that sample of creationists who actually do know the 'canonical' definition of evolution and the details of the theory as any university professor would.

Humans are not descendants of monkeys, everyone knows that. Evolution teaches that humans are descendants of pond scum. OK, maybe "pond scum" is not P.C. enough for you, but it's relatively true, based in evolution. :thumbsup

As a former public school student I must agree. Evolution is taught and an other idea is viciously destroyed. Trust me, I had lots of fun in biology when the teacher would bring up evolution and then I said, "What about other possibilities?" and she would look at me and say, "There is no other possibility, this is the answer."

When I took AP Bio I had a diff. teacher (diff. school and diff. town) and I got nearly the same answer. My AP Chem teacher was an ex-atheist and new-born Christian who had actually come over because of the errors he say in what had been taught to him by evolution and such. (He also taught Bio) He visits one of our Christian Student meetings and shared with us how evolution was unsettling and full of fallacies. He also said that the head of the science department (for my high school) said that teachers should disregard any comments against evolution saying anything else was a "waste of time".

Yeah. "pod scum" this is why I always say debating evolution is a moot point when you have to prove abiogenesis first. (Not to say I don't know quite a few problems with evolution theory in and of itself, just its always more interesting to see "science" defend abiogenesis which in no way can they possibly test observe or replicate, which means they believe it without seeing and isnt believing without seeing the textbook definition of faith??? Perhaps this should be reclassified as -r-e-l-i-g-i-o-n-???

Well, I must admit that the Discovery Institute is pretty good.

ok then i can respect that.

honesty if it wasnt a known christian radio station that was broadcasting icr , i would have thought it to be a npr station or some secular science group(when they talk about the anatomy of fishes and how they adopt to the enviroment and variations in the species).

See, I take those dissenting scientists much more seriously than the people who just read out of Genesis. Especially the creationists who are open-minded and not necessarily dedicated to one religion.

i cant speak for all creationists but those are the only one i know about, they look at it from the book of geneis and have the world view that there is a god and did say what he said and take genesis literally but also realise that the book doesnt scientifically state how God did do it.

David said God spake and it (the earth) stood fast. Job stated that God hung the earth on nothing. And we agree, huh?

And FAITH?? It is not known for sure until God puts it INSIDE OF YOU. (Heb. 6:1-5) And again, that takes total surrender for that FAITH to become a Fact. But that does not change pie R Square still being 22/7.

I thought I knew but maybe not... what is IRC?

And G. why are you quoting by boy Churchyard? He is one person I never thought I'd see in your signature.
