--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(6) (Col. 1:14)

By the ommision of one word the NIV lends credibility to the heresy that all men are saved.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRIST'S DEITY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(20) (1 Tim. 3:16)

By the changing of one word a verse can be rendered ineffective in declaring the deity of Christ.

(KJV) "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: [God] was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

(NIV) "Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: [He] appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(21) (Phil. 2:5,6)

(NIV) "(Rev 1:8-13 NIV) "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." {9} I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. {10} ....I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, {11} which said: "Write on a scroll what you see...." {12} I turned around to see ...And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, {13} and among the lampstands was someone "like [a son of man]...."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(23) (1 John 5:7,8)

(KJV) "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. {8} And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one."

(NIV) "...For we will all stand before [God's judgment seat]. {11} It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.'" {12} So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Ahhh...Ye Olde King James Only fanatics.....

Well, let's see the first post omits the fact, that omitted verses are included in the footnotes (at least in my Bible). Besides that, I don't see much difference in the translations.

As for the second post....

This link http://www.tmbible.com/BWCcitations.htm is an OBVIOUS ADVERTISEMENT for the "Third Millenium Bible". Sanning over I noted with interest how that Bible, as well as the KJV, translates Exodus 20:13 as "Thou shall not kill" instead of "Thou shall not murder". The actual Hebrew word IS BETTER TRANSLATED as "murder.

"We're not like those hucksters-and there are many of them-- whose idea of getting out the Gospel is making a good living out of it"....2 Corinthians 2:17, The Living Bible

That was very interesting. I knew the NIV had some things twisted but I didn't know they omitted verses. Thanks for the eyeopener.

Is it any wonder that so many (all?) Christian denominations are so messed up? It's also little wonder, these days perhaps more than ever before, why it's become so difficult to 'recruit' new converts to Christianity. What are they to believe? ...a belief to one is a heresy to another. Maybe Heidi can sort this one out. ;-)

I used to have a NIV study bible, but I noticed many differences between the KJV and the NIV, therefore, I threw the NIV in the trash. Thanks for the post Tzalam2.

And thanks for that post Solo....another addition to the "ignore list :-?

I'm with Phil on this one. Nothing like assuming one version is correct and then using it to show that others are "false".

@@@@what differences DO you see?

Not every omitted verse is in your footnotes.
Besides,why omit?
When you teach a child how to read, how many letters of the alphabet
is it acceptable to leave out?
Are you not lying to the child, by the sin of omission?

Why does it never occur to KJV people that just perhaps the KJ adds verses? We have far more manuscripts available today than did the translators of the KJV and TR, and this is why the NIV and NASB use notes to state that certain verses aren't in the oldest manuscripts, or that most manuscripts do not contain certain verses. But it is error to simply think that other versions are wrong because they seemingly omit verses.

Because most people who adhere to the KJV have done sufficient research into the origins of the bible versions, and know the KJV is
faithfully translated, and trustworthy.
Why stay with a bible, such as NIV, or TLB, etc., that you KNOW has errors?
Makes no sense to me.

That is highly unlikely, unless one considers reading such tripe as New Age Bible Versions research. It's rather funny how all of those people I know who have thoroughly studied Greek think that there are versions which are better than the KJV. It is a good version and it is very poetic, but it has it's errors just like every other version and is not as good as some.

Of course it doesn't because you fail to acknowledge the errors in the KJV.

For a good background on why the KJV is the only reliable
Bible text,
please read here:

Surely you were taught COMPLETE history, in skrool, and you learned
about John Wycliffe, Myles Coverdale, the Lollards, and William Tyndale.

http://www.wycliffe.org/history/JWycliff.htm

Tyndale worked to completed his New Testament in English. inquisitors and bounty hunters were on Tyndale's trail in an attempt to prevent the Bible from being translated into English. Nevertheless, in 1525 Tyndale printed the first translation of New Testament in English. The Bishop of London took steps to confiscate and burn them as they found their way into England, but copies continued to circulate among Christians, this despite the fact that possession of one of Tyndale's New Testaments carried a penalty of death by burning.

Betrayed by a friend, Tyndale was eventually taken into custody. Imprisoned for more than a year, he was strangled and burned at the stake in 1536. Only two copies of his first printing of the New Testament in English are known to have survived.

Myles Coverdale and John Rogers assisted Tydale during the last six years of life, carrying the project forward after his death. Coverdale finished translating the Old Testament, and in 1535 he printed the first complete Bible in the English language, using Luther's German text and the Latin as sources. Thus, the first translation of the complete Bible was printed on October 4, 1535, and is known as the Coverdale Bible.

Here's a comprehensive list of more versions, and what
verses were taken from THEM:

The King James Version translators took the baton passed on to them by devout men and martyrs who translated before them. Men like John Wiclif, aka "The Morning Star of the Reformation" who was the first to translate the entire Bible into English. Although he only had the Latin Vulgate to work with, you can see his influence on Tyndale's translation and ultimately our Authorized Version. Like Martin Luther, Dr. Wiclif was a member of the Romish religion when he was awakened to the truth through the reading of the scriptures. He spoke out vehemently against the Romish rites and practices which at that time had a stranglehold on the land. His followers were called Lollards and they went out like circuit preachers spreading the doctrine of Christ. Dr. Wiclif wrote tracts and spoke out against error. He was severely persecuted by the Romish religion while alive and was banished from Oxford and his professorship by order of the king. Nevertheless, the Lord delivered him out of Romish hands many times and allowed him to continue his translation work. In 1428, about 44 years after his death, Pope Martin V commanded Dr. Wiclif's bones to be dug up and burned as an arch heretick.

William Tyndale who translated from the Textus Receptus line, was strangled and burned at the stake by the Catholic religion because of translating the Bible. Time fails me here to speak of John Rogers, Myles Coverdale and others who labored AND DIED that we might have the word of God in our hands. The Authorized Version is a Book forged in blood, sweat and tears. Treasure it. The King James translators said this of the cumulative nature of their work--

"Truly (good Christian Reader) we never thought from the beginning, that we should need to make a new Translation, nor yet to make of a bad one a good one...but to make a good one better, or out of many good ones, one principal good one..."
Please do not be deceived into thinking that the King James Bible is only an amalgamation of previous translations. These scholars consulted the original languages and related languages.

"Neither did we think much to consult the Translators or Commentators, Chaldee, Hebrew, Syrian, Greek or Latin, no nor the Spanish, French, Italian, or Dutch; neither did we disdain to revise that which we had done, and to bring back to the anvil that which we had hammered: but having and using as great helps as were needful, and fearing no reproach for slowness, nor coveting praise for expedition, we have at length, through the good hand of the Lord upon us, brought the work to that pass that you see."

It amazes me that those who attack the KJV as being a book of errors would stand for the NIV as being a good version even though it was just shown to have many, many errors. This inspite of not showing the errors in the KJV. My 22 years of Christian experience in my 50 years of life have shown me the errors in liberal theology and the books that they adhere to.

Tzalam2 has done a great job in showing the problems with the new liberal theology version of Bibles.

I am begining to see why so many "Christians" just live anyway they want and think nothing is a sin. Almost every church I know uses the NIV version. What a shame, they aren't even getting a chance to know the truth. I realize that the KJV is not exactly right, but it is the closest. I feel safe in saying that if we had the original Bible there would be alot more required of us. Out of curiosity who translated the NIV?

I'll take unicorns in the KJV and you can take the NIV's removal of the work of Jesus Christ and his salvation through his blood.

One instance as you supply in the unicorn instance does not come close to the garbage of the NIV.

The International Bible Society sponsored the NIV translation just as they were behind the "gender-neutral" TNIV version of the NIV.

You going to ignore what the NIV makes so clear? That argument is certainly based on ignorance of what the NIV actually does state. I'm certainly not going to ignore what either make clear.

Quite right you are. The certainty of mythical beasts is on a whole other level than alleged omission of verses.

Luke 5:39
39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better.'"
(NIV)

Before translating a bible, one must first decide exactly what to translate.
Because not all early manuscripts are the same, there can be differences in what is translated. When presented with the problem that one manuscript has a verse, and another one doesn't, what do you do? Reason says you take the oldest as the most probably correct, as long as it seems reliable, and footnote any changes that might be important for someone reading it. So omitted verses are not problems of translation, but rather problems of what verses are to be considered scripture. You have the same problem reading it in the original language.

For problems of translation, one need only to consult what was translated in the original language to see how well it was translated. Older translations are usually inferior because they do not benefit from the most recent research. For example at some point it was discovered that a certain word refers to the varnish that covers pottery. Modern tranlations reflect this, while older ones guess at the meaning of the word.

Another solution, which is probably the best for most people is to reference from MANY TRANSLATIONS, and then discern the meaning. One should probably never derive any doctrinal stance off something that can only be read in one translation.

I'll demonstrate more translations for the first two (that have their scripture referenced)

(2) (Matt. 18:11)

(NRSV) (whole verse omitted)
footnote: Other ancient authorities add verse 11, For the Son of Man came to save the lost
(HCSB) [For the Son of Man has come to save the lost.]
footnote: Other mss omit bracketed text

(3) (Matt. 9:13)
(KJV) "...I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

(NIV) "...I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
no footnotes
(NKJ) "... For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance"
footnote: NU-Text omits to repentance.
(NASB) "I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE," for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
footnote: I.e. more then (placed on the AND)
(NRSV) I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.
no footnotes
(HCSB) I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners.
footnote: Other mss add to repentance

Neither of these demonstate a translation issue, however, if accuracy is really a concern then you cannot use any single translation anyway (for you can't perfectly translate from one language to another), and further you must commit yourself to the study of which manuscripts these translations are based on, and how they differ.

For information about the translators of the NIV see the preface

{
Responsibility for the new version was delegated by the Palos Heights group to a self-governing body of fifteen, the Committee on Bible Translation, composed for the most part of biblical scholars from colleges, universities and seminaries. In 1967 the New York Bible Society (now the International Bible Society) generously undertook the financial sponsorship for the project - sponsorship that made it possible to enlist the help of many distinguished scholars. The fact that participants from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand worked together gave the project its international scope. That they were from many denominations - including Anglican, Assemblies of God, Baptist, Brethren, Christian Reformed, Church of Christ, Evangelical Free, Lutheran, Mennonite, Methodist, Nazarene, Presbyterian, Wesleyan and other churches - helped to safeguard the translation from sectarian bias.

How it was made helps to give the New International Version its distinctiveness. The translation of each book was assigned to a team of scholars. Next, one of the Intermediate Editorial Committees revised the initial translation, with constant reference to the Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek. Their work then went on to one of the General Editorial committees, which checked it in detail and made another thorough version. This revision in turn was carefully reviewed by the Committee on Bible Translation, which made further changes and then released the final version for publication. In this way the entire Bible underwent three revisions, during each of which the translation was examined for its faithfulness to the original languages and for its English style.
