:-D INTER-FAITHISM FORUMS on the internet everywhere!
You cannot always trust everything you hear,because religion
isn't going anywhere. What is there to gain from atheism?
There is everything to lose in atheism.
I had no idea that you agreed with Pascals Wager...

What is there to gain from religion?

According to the Wager, everlasting life in paradise.
What is there to lose? Nothing.

According to real life, where there are mutually exclusive religions, if you believe in one religion, and it turns out to be the wrong one, what have you gained? Nothing.
What have you lost? A life that you've spent in the service of a false religion.

According to the Wager, what is there to gain from Atheism? Nothing.
What is there to lose? Everlasting life in paradise.

Since that assumes that ONLY Christianity exists, it's incorrect.
What is there to gain from Atheism, according to real life? A life without any form of guilt based on someone just being alive. An equal chance on being condemned to "hell", the same chance all those religious people have.
What do you stand to lose? The continuous fear of going to hell, the continuous mental torture known as "we're not worthy, we're sinners, we need to be saved", (If anyone did that to anyone else, they'd be jailed for it, and rightly so. Since there is no proof for one religion over another, the "truth" arguement falls flat as well and is no justification for that treatment) the comfort of knowing that you are not responsible for your own life and choices. (a good possibility as to why some people believe...)

So, B.E.L... Are you willing to bet your life and afterlife on that Wager? Are you willing to chance believing in a false religion?

More to the point, do you want to take that chance with other peoples lives?

You're right, so why should I believe anything you say?

There is nothing to lose in atheism, except maybe your pride, and ego.

8-) Tuatha'an,do you not see what tigger is trying to do yet?
He's a heckler that chases me around looking for a fight,yet doesn't
like to flap about his faith,or what he actually claims to believe.
Who is Wager? I don't even know what tigger is saying.
I don't even know that person.
Inter-faithism is all over the internet now here and in Canada.
It includes Wiccans,and all those who have some kind of worship
going on. Where will atheism fit in?
You don't have to believe me,I just want you to watch and make up
your own mind when the time comes. I just hope you'll choose Jesus
Christ. Thats my agenda. Thats all there is to it.
If you knew something that would save my life when this world hits the
fan,and I took your advise,that would be a real friend listening to a real
friend. Maybe I just see something that you don't right now,but I know
it will be seen in the future and I want to help you,not harm you.

Now when did I say anything about someone called Wager?
If you think someone can take down the Roman Catholic church
and the Pope and the Vatican,then I gotta' see this!!!
I'd buy tickets to see it. That just isn't going to happen.
There is no way to get rid of religion. Pagan religion is rising fast,
and you cannot stop it from happening. Check out some of the inter-
faith forums. evanman gave out alot of the websites where they can be
found. You can take your pick there is soooooo many of them available.
Religion doesn't save you,and when did I say it did?
I am saying that religion is growing,and atheism is not.
Despite the falsifide polls you read,atheism is not growing.
Atheism would naturally create much more pride and a sense that you
are better than others because you have no standard to measure truth
by,and you have no sense of morals to help you detect right from wrong.
If you claim you do,then you borrowed it from religion.
Believing you can do anything you please without having to answer for it
gives a big puffy attitude. You'd have to humble yourself to believe in a
holy God and live by the book. You'd also have to have self-control,and
patience. Atheism doesn't give anyone hope,it makes them hopeless.

Now when did I say anything about someone called Wager?

Hahaha...he was not speaking of a man named Wager, but of a man named Pascal who had said that it is more beneficial for a person to believe in God than to not believe in God, because if you believe in God than atleast if he does exist you will get into heaven, but if you don't believe in him, you'll go to hell. This philosophy was named Pascal's Wager.

:P Well now,ISN'T THAT SPECIAL!
That just proves to me you believe man.
I don't take what other people say as fact,
I believe God and his son & spirit,and word,
not the folly of man. Man makes mistakes.
God is fact! The bible says it is the fool who says
in his heart that there is no God!
Good words to live by.

What are you talking about? There is no refuting the logic behind Pascal's Wager. Pascal was a very religious person (he gave up his mathematical pursuits to follow God), and his wager works in favor of Christianity. So, you don't even like arguments that support your beliefs? Wow, that's wierd...

If you must discuss this further, please do it in the Christianity vs. other religions Forum. 8-)

:P Did I say that he was wrong? "NO"!
I said I don't know what he's about or his ideas.
I believe God,and if it doesn't line up with God's
word,it's all wrong.
I don't know who you are talking about,but I'll
try to research it.
Please answer my questions sometime,o.k?

Friendly reminder to all that this thread is about evolution. Please keep it on topic. :fadein:

I'm with free. If you'd like to continue this descusion, go to christianity verses religion. I made a thread just for this topic.

I got bored, so I made a java program that will plot my model (will be displayed in blue) of (1.5)^x versus the genetic algorithm (will be displayed in red) for anyone interested:

Code:
import java.util.Random;
import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.*;

public class allelefreq extends Applet
{
	public void paint(Graphics g)
	{

		Random ranGen=new Random();

		g.setColor(Color.red);
		for(int generations=1;generations<100;generations++)
		{
		double prob=0.50;

		double totalW=1;
		double totalOff=ranGen.nextGaussian()+3;
		double prevPop=0;

			for(int gen=1;gen<generations+1;gen++)
			{

				for(double pop=1;pop<(prevPop)+1;pop++)
				{
					totalOff=totalOff+3+ranGen.nextGaussian();
				}

				totalW=totalW+(double)totalOff*prob;
				prevPop=totalOff*prob;
				totalOff=0;
			}
			g.drawRect(generations,500-(int)prevPop,5,5);
			g.setColor(Color.blue);
			g.drawRect(generations,500-(int)Math.pow(1.5,generations),5,5);
			g.setColor(Color.red);
		}

	}
}
