I know someone who had back surgery and they've had problems with their legs swelling to the point they can hardly walk ever since.

My nephew had back surgery and got severely addicted to opioids.

Ok here is one of my pain stories.
I've developed foot problems. Since starting a physical job over 5 years ago.
For the last 12 months I've had plantar fasciitis on my left foot and insertional Achilles tendonitis, heel bursitis and peronial tendonitis on my right.
Daily I need to massage, tape, and use supports just to stand up and go to work.
Often when I get home, I need to ice my feet.
I watch YouTube videos which are helpful. Better than physios I visit here. I've had disappointing experiences with allied health. Waste of time and money. Michigan foot doctor on YouTube has been the best so far.
I spend over an hour daily preparing my feet .
Ok part of my issue is made worse by being overweight. I'm trying to lose weight right now. Guess I should get off the net and start exercising more.

I get plenty of pain, I try to ignore it, but the spondolosis is the worse one to ignore. All part of life.

I have mostly Irish ancestry. We are better at complaining....perhaps.

Sure does. If a dog will growl and bear his teeth at the hand that feeds him he will bite another much quicker. Most importantly, children who at times get rough with a dog.

No sir, I won't have a dog that is a threat to me.

I actually developed a tolerance to most OTC pain killers during my whole issue with severe back pain. So that's fun.

Also, with my psych meds and whatnot, most of those interact badly with them.

Also In Australia, we can't get codeine over the counter any more.

I think opioids are all prescription only here, but idk.

I was offered surgery but the unconvincing evidence is that less than 50% make a full recovery. Success is not guaranteed.

They have to put a small ladder an pins in order to straighten up my back as it's hard for me to bend over without pain. I'm still on the fence about having it done.

With the Neuropathy my right foot swells and is painful because of the nerve damage from my back

I take antihistamines to sleep quite often.

They have heavy restrictions here in the States.

They have only become strict here in the last 12 months. But you could never buy them OTC.

Surgery use to be by last resort.
Today it's quite often first resort.
I don't think we have improve our methods that much with a few exceptions, mainly in the field of orthopedics.
