That didn't answer the question. If the limit of human lifespan was set at 120 years, then how come we have incidents of people living longer than that?

That don't make the Bible a lie. Because this is your answer God can do as He wants, He can let some people live longer, and for His own reasons. He does from time to time. He created life, He created death, He can do what He wants. That is your answer. He lets some die, and He lets some live. And if you try to read to much into that, you will come up empty, because God feels as though, that He don't have to tell you why He does everything. And He does not, let us know what and why He does everything.

So what you're saying is that he changes his mind a lot.

If he can change his mind on things like that, then why wouldn't he change his mind on anything else in the Bible?

No' He does not change His mind. He has the power to do what He wants. Because He created death and life, He can intervene in it, anytime He wants, have you ever heard of divine intervention ? You know God still does that you know. God has intervened in death a few times that is recorded, in the Bible.
He even added more years to King Hezekiah after He had sent a message that he was going to die. But God ended up giving him more years. Did God change His mind ? A big, big NO. You see it was God's MERCY, that saved the king. Mercy is His to give. Just like death is controlled by Him too. He gives extra time to whom ever He wants. Now here is the kicker, you see God is not confined to time as we are, He created time but He sits outside of time, but yet He is still involved in time. 120 years is not the same to God, 2 Peter 3:8 And you have to remember that God created time for man.

If He says one thing, and then does another, how is that not changing His mind?

Unless it's lying instead.

Question: "Does the Bible contain errors, contradictions, or discrepancies?"

Answer: We often get questions along the lines of “Explain how these verses do not contradict!†or “Look, here is an error in the Bible!†Admittedly, some of the things people bring up are difficult to answer. However, there are viable and intellectually plausible answers to every supposed Bible contradiction and error. There are books and websites available that list “all the errors in the Bible.†Most people simply get their ammunition from these places – they do not find supposed errors on their own. There are also books and websites available that refute each and every last one of these supposed errors. The saddest thing is that most people who attack the Bible are not truly interested in an answer – all they want to do is attack. Many "Bible attackers" are even aware of the answers, but they continue to use the same old shallow attacks again and again.

If you read the Bible, at face value, without a preconceived bias for finding errors – you will find it to be a coherent, consistent, and relatively easy-to-understand book. Yes, there are difficult passages. Yes, there are verses that appear to contradict each other. We must remember that the Bible was written by approximately 40 different authors over a period of around 1500 years. Each writer wrote from a different perspective, to a different audience, for a different purpose. We should expect some differences! However, a difference is not a contradiction or an error. It is only an error if there is absolutely no conceivable manner in which the verses or passages can be reconciled. Even if we do not have the answer right now, that does not mean the answer does not exist. Many have found a supposed error in the Bible in relation to history or geography only to find out that the Bible is correct once further archaeological evidence is discovered.

So, what are we to do when someone approaches us with an alleged Bible error? (1) Prayerfully study the problem and see if there is a simple solution. 2) Do some research using some of the fine Bible commentaries, "Bible defense" books, and Biblical research websites that are available. (3) Ask the helpful servants at http://www.gotquestions.org or your pastor to see if they can find a solution. 4) If there is still no clear answer after steps (1), (2), and (3) are followed - trust God that His Word is truth and that there is a solution that just simply has not been realized yet (2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16-17).

If He says one thing, and then does another, how is that not changing His mind?

To say that God changed His mind is to say that, He is not all knowing, and that He is not perfect. He does not make mistakes. And says I thought of something better. He gets it right the first time. But you can think anyway you want, because it don't change a thing.

I have looked at the contradictions in the Bible. There are some translation errors. Some are copy errors. Some are errors in thought. However, there are some plain out errors and contradictions.

But what I noticed is that any error or contradiction can be reconciled if you assume the weirdest things. This applies to all holy books or belief systems.

For example:
Genesis 22:14 - "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen."

Exodus 6:3 - "And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them."

So Abraham did not know God's name was Jehovah, yet Abraham names the mountain "Jehovahjireh" which means "Jehovah will provide." How do you remove this contradiction? Just say that Abraham had a lucky guess. Now there is no contradiction.

But I call that mental gymnastics. It is a kind of double think where you don't want there to be error so you believe in the implausible to keep beliefs you want to hold on to.

Then why didn't He create humanity perfectly from the start and instead had to wipe them out with a flood and start over?

In every aspect that matters, God did create man perfect. He also gave man freedom of will, and through this, man decided to rebel against God which brought about his downward spiral. The same thing that cast Satan out of heaven has brought about the gradual decline of man: PRIDE. And there's nothing wrong with this emotion so long as he exhibits it in the correct way. However, we constantly choose to use it in our own selfish way.

WOW! Wven with my vote of "Yes" the poll is still running 7-9 against!

And some people have damned me, for not believing the Flood was world-wide?? :-?

Phil,

I believe that you are probably right in not accepting a world-wide flood. There is no worldwide evidence of it and, as I stated earlier, no need for it.

Traditionally it has been taught the God destroyed the entire population of the planet. I believe that this was simply misunderstanding and that the only persons that God destroyed were those that held the blood-line of Adam and Eve. If this is true then the only part of the planet that needed destroying would have been a small part of the middle east. The fact that Noah ended up in the same region in which he started after months at sea is a prime indication also that the whole world wasn't flooded. Add the fact that there's absolutely no way that EVERY animal could have been collected and placed on the ark. There is absolutely NO WAY that were possible because we know that there are distinct species endemic to separate islands and continents.

And for those that refuse to accept evolution: There is NO proof that man evolved from anything other than man. There is a ton of proof, however, that animals have evolved. I will not try to argue whether it took place over 10 million years, or 10 billion, but I certainly don't believe that all the evolution that has taken place, took place in ten thousand years. That's utterly ridiculous to me.

So, what I am saying is that animals have continued to evolve since their creation. ON THE WHOLE PLANET. That leaves NO room for a planet-wide flood. AND, if you will read the Bible and follow what it actually says instead of what someone told you it says, you will see that what I offer makes much more sense than what has been taught for hundreds and hundreds of years.

I hadn't gotten to the point of Noah and the flood yet. I was hoping that someone would help lead through creation, Adam, and then Noah and the flood. I believe that I can show anyone willing to understand and acept the truth exactly what the Bible states. Many will ignore what the Bible says and insist that what they have been taught to read is the truth. For them I can offer nothing. But for those that haven't already been tainted by traditional teachings, I can show you that the Bible offers two separate creations of humans, and that the flood was brought about for the destruction of the second creation mating with the first and through this intermingling of the blood-lines, God's chosen people, (second creation), began to commit spiritual adultery to the point that it angered God enough to destroy ALL but one of them and his family. NOT to begin mankind again, but to redevelop the relationship with a specific group of people.
