agnostic here

I would say I am agnostic more than an atheist. I used to be a Christian years ago but when I started frequenting an atheist forum they pretty much turned me away from Christianity. I would like to believe in God but I can’t refute the questions atheists pose. I guess that’s why I’m here, just hoping to find answers. I hope I don’t get banned for not being a Christian.

Welcome to CFnet. Make sure you understand the ToS, and you will be fine.

I have to wonder why a Christian would choose to "frequent an atheist forum". What does Light have in common with darkness?

Ephesians 5
"8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.â€

Image of reality. Welcome from me too. We often get people here struggling with belief.

To find god you must not give up rational thinking, you just give up thinking in a way. God is found in you and outside you. When the heart is willing the mind at peace and the invitation given you can find the spirit of god go into your body.

Once you find the path to a proper connection with god all the anti god arguments amount to nothing. you find your own truth and don't live out other peoples theories.

If the sun is shining all around you and on you you sure don't need to prove it exists.

Bless you.

Thanks for the welcome Mike. You asked why I would frequent an atheist forum and frankly, it was to convert them to Christianity. I was a strong Christian and felt secure in my beliefs. It was a long road (over many years) that eventually led to my disbelief. They had questions I just could not answer. I don’t know if anyone here would be interested in talking with me about these issues. I suppose you could say it would be dangerous to a persons faith to even entertain ideas of atheists let alone debate them. I tried debating with them and look where it led me. I’m not saying I know for sure there is no God, it’s just that I don’t have the certainty of any belief anymore. Could I be persuaded? I don’t know. Maybe.

Hey Image,
We do see the occasional questions and such in here, some of which Im sure youve seen already.

Aside from that, well help where we can.If youre looking just to talk one-on-one with someone,I can respond via private messages or so forth.

Bear in mind though, that not all answers concerning God can be answered sheerly through naturalistic means.I believe that there is enough of that available to draw the reasonable conclusion that He exists, but of course one is always hard-pressed to define or "prove" that which is spiritual in nature. If one is willing to accept the possibility that such an entity exists there are obvious reasons why certain aspects of this elude conventional explanation.

Thank you Mike, Chris and Phantom for responding to my posts. I was wondering if you could direct me to some posts or maybe an entire thread that is about the existence of God or something close to that kind of discussion. Maybe another atheist or agnostic has already been here and there is already material that I could read. I don’t want to waist peoples time and rehash something that has already been discussed.

Topics along that line generally stick to the apologetics and theology section, with more of the random stuff landing in Q&A.

Hi Image. Former agnostic here. I became a born again believer in 2004 after 20+ years away from the church. I'm an engineer and mathematics major by education so proof and logic are critical to any belief system I subscribe to. I can tell you there are answers to difficult questions that can be supported by the Bible.

It starts with praying for God to give you an open mind free of previous preconceived notions, even if you don't feel particularly close to Him at the moment, and your willingness to invest some time into honest, objective study of the Word of God.

I guess depending on where your difficulties with Christianity are will dictate what direction to take your questions.

I hope your time on the forums here can help you with your faith!

You can try looking through "Christianity & Other Religions" too. The Q&A is intended for non-Christians to pose questions to believers. In the Q&A, we don't typically permit other non-believers from entering a discussion opened by another member.

You know, we've had a lot of new members who join and say they were once believers and that they want reasons to believe. In reality, they were setting things up so that they could argue against Christianity. I have no reason to believe this is you, and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. It's very clear when either is happening. Honest questions are very much welcomed. Attempting to persuade believers is against the ToS.

Hi Mike,
I've been looking around and I can't find "Christianity & Other Religions". Is that a thread? Also I don't see where the Q&A section is. If you could point me in the right direction I will go there.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,
What are the questions you are hoping to find answers to?

It's better if you don't get into topical discussions here in this thread, since it's just your intro.

The Q&A is a sub-forum of the "Apologetics & Theology Forum". You'll see the A&T at the top of the second set of Forums. Here's the link to the Q&A: http://www.christianforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=43

The "Christianity & Other Religions Forum" is 4 forums down from the A&T in the same section. Here's the link to the C&OR: http://www.christianforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=23
