America and GOD

I was actually thinking about this the other day. Best I could come up with...

...America's secular moral code was closer to Christianity back then. At least pretend to be faithful to your spouse, no divorce, work hard, don't mess with people.

Things are different now. Far more divorce, drug use and abuse, acceptance of sin and such. At the same time...

...genuine, repentant believers have always been around. I get the sense that there never really have been that many true Christians. Maybe there are fewer now. Maybe we just have fewer people claiming Christ, since its no longer required to go to church ever Sunday to be respectable. Who knows?

Megachurches and such may not be the godliest places ever, but dead churches have been around forever. Trust me, I grew up liberal Presbyterian.

I go along with "Glory" (for short) .Ive never been to America so Im probably pocking my nose into matters that I have not personaly experienced. Patriotism is a natural thing and it's good for any person to have faith in their country.Fortunatly the Bible the way I see it only distinquishes between believer and non- believers if one looks at the New Testament.Romans 10:12-13 "For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile -the same Lord is Lord is Lord of all..13."Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved " cf Joel 2:32 .
The problem is that "believers" are sometimes confused False Disciples into believing that they are not sinners because they have been saved on the face of it , but in reality they do commit sin and dont repent towards God , as it should be.Poeple can fool each other by forgiving guilt but only God through Christ can forgive sins.John tells us in IJohn 1:8 "If we claim to be without sin, we decieve ourselves and the truth is not in us.

So as long as the flock (no matter what nation) allows itself to be bluffed by hearing and believing only what they want to hear ,they will not see everlasting life as promised.Unity not uniformity constitutes the "vine"John 15:1 in Christ the true vine. Therefore any reference to a cultural group in natural terms is irrelavant,if not impossible, under the New Covenant.Nations and Empires come and go ,under Gods omnipotance according to His will as History shows.

Depends on which history one wants to believe.

History won't help anyone, and Yhwh doesn't promise us tomorrow, so today is the day to find out. Who shall we serve- Jesus or the world?

Wow i see lots of help in the history,s of the Old and New Testaments
as someone else said, that's playing with SEMANTICS.

it's the Scriptures themselves, not the history of the Scriptures(which has been horrid among men-- the history of men with / using Scripture is abominable; as they have murdered millions using Scriptures as an excuse)
which is ALIVE AND LIFE-GIVING AND REFRESHING TO THE SOUL - (as Scriptures says of Scriptures).....

the history of religion and what man has done to kill himself is scarcely comparable to the TRUTH of SCRIPTURES.

I dont understand the Scriptures to be a history of religion... I understand them to be God version of history

I think the USA gets serious about God any time there is a tragedy. Examples would be 9/11 or the shootings in different schools etc.

I am Canadian so what I see may be scewed a bit. From what I understand, the USA was founded by Christians in an effort to build a Christian based nation. But, time has passed and it seems like groups like the ACLU wants all God related actions to disappear. For the most part America complies. However, in the event of a tragedy, we hear stories of group prayers, Christian based statements etc and the whole country seems to accept it and gather strength from it. Then, it's back to life as the ACLU would have it.

I think it was Billy Grahams daughter that said it best after 9/11. She was asked why God would let this happen. Why God didn't protect them. Her answer was, to many, a bulls eye. "The USA has been telling God to go away and back off for so long, He finally is"

Actually, I'm inclined to think that an opinion from a less biased outsider is probably more accurate than one from inside these borders. We (all people) are like that. We rally and look to God in times of trouble and strife but when things are going okay we get complacent and turn our back on Him, taking Him for granted. Sounds a lot like Israel in the wilderness. Whenever things went sour they were quick to change their minds and seek God but quickly stray when things were okay again.

As for the children of israel. I won't justify them: they were deliberately impious and sinful, maybe. They were close to HIM than we are to HIM today, maybe. Why would one want to disregard GOD.
