What is verse 13 really talking about. I have just paused, thinking about this.

Like I've never noticed it before.:dunno :confused :shrug

Hi Classic,

That is a good question, and I'm sure there will be much to be said for it. I'd like to start of with this passage.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

At first, this may look like a contradiction huh? Well, lets look at verse 13 again.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

When God leads us into temptation, it is not God who tempts us. But God allows us to be tempted. Why? For our own Good and our own spiritual growth when our pride etc gets in our way, or we think we are smarter than our britches. I look at it as a form of discipline that humbles us, but the benefit is that we draw closer to God at those times.

You've heard of the school of hard knocks? Well, we can learn from that school or we can learn by submitting voluntarily to God's will. It's ironic that his prayer comes right after the Be Attitudes. Blessed is he who is poor in spirit.. Nobody wants to be poor in spirit now do they?

But what does it take sometimes to get to the next verse? Certainly we have to rid ourselves of pride and self righteousness right?

Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

God will allow temptation to come upon us like Job in the above verse, but it is up to us to draw on Gods strength through faith and grace that we will not be destroyed as we stand in the midst of temptation like Jesus did in Matthew Chapter 4 and use that power and authority that God gives us to stand in the time of evil.

Amen!

1 Corinthians 10:13 There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'

And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue usfrom the evil one.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver usfrom evil.
'

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

And never bring us into temptation, but deliver usfrom the evil one.'

And lead us not to temptation but deliver us from evil,

Don't allow us to be tempted. Instead, rescue us from the evil one.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.

and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.

And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

and bring us not into temptation, but rescue us from the Evil one.'

Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

'And mayest Thou not lead us to temptation, but deliver us from the evil,

Amen!

1 Corinthians 10:13 There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.
