Another School Shooting

Even good & proper teens can act in ways that are completely foreign to them. And teens are also good at concealing what they think should be concealed. Therefore, even the best of teens can act in such a manner to completely catch their parents off-guard. With hormonal changes that teens go through as they mature, they can even surprise themselves by behaviors they wouldn't believe they would ever do.

Any way one looks at it, additional security is needed at all schools.

yet the anti-gun types just want" free zones"

Considering everything I went through in order to attend a Bears game at Soldier's Stadium in Chicago ... there should be the same security at schools.

The anti-gun types merely want to control others. It's all about control.

As has been shown in the past, where there is a "gun free zone" there will inherently be an easy target. Why would you attack a place that is fortified rather than a place that isn't?

Exactly. Issue weapons to every student as they enter the schools. Bullying will be taken in hand, teachers will act appropriate in their justice, and anyone coming in from the outside with ill intent could indeed be considered nuts if they're willing to face a class of 30 ten year old's just itching to test their skills of elimination. Rubbing out something on paper could not be near so satisfying.

As far as Colorado goes, it is oxygen deprivation (Just read some of my posts) bringing about reoccurring episodes of Brain gone dead syndrome. They're even bragging of a teacher for running and leaving a student to take her bullet as a hero; go figure. When everyone is at it remember to always ABC; that is to always buy Colorado.

Your sarcasm is palpable.

During the decade of 2000-2009, 81 people died in school shootings, including students and staff. That's 0.0003% of all deaths in that time period. People want to respond to this by declaring gun-free zones, enacting stricter gun laws, posting armed guards at every school or arming all teachers.

During that same decade, there were 411,649 traffic fatalities. They account for 1.55% of all deaths during that time. That's over 5,000 times as many deaths as from school shootings. Yet, nobody is suggesting car-free zones or stationing police and ambulances at every street corner. But in spite of the fact that nothing comparable to what is being suggested in schools has been done for traffic, the number of fatalities has been going down the past few years, from a high of 43,510 in 2005 down to 32,367 in 2011.

Maybe what we need to do about school shootings is the same as what was done about traffic fatalities - find the root cause of the problem and address that. With traffic fatalities the root causes were things like drunk driving, texting while driving and speeding among other things. These are being addressed by stricter enforcement of laws that are already in place and by educating people about the dangers of this type of behavior through infomercials and other means. The root causes of school shootings might be things like mental problems or students getting back at teachers who gave them a bad grade or at other students who bullied them. These things could could be addressed by reexamining responses to bullying or the way we diagnose and treat mental problems. I believe going to the root of the problem is more likely to give good results than either increasing or decreasing the number of guns.

Over the years I've seen many changes in the home.. Ward and June Cleaver were our role models as well as Wally and the Beaver our peers. The decade when things started going south were the roaring 60's.. Kennedy moved out the Beatles moved in.. packed in their baggage were a mix of drugs and eastern religions.. then toward the end of the decade the Lord rose up a standard against the flood the name of Jesus was everywhere people were getting saved in droves i was one of them. The first thing i asked about family was a Missionary back from New Guinea.. He said there was virtually no discipline anymore Dr. Spock had removed the rod of correction from the home and replaced it with the humanistic idea of Psychology.. Which way would you rather have it bruises on the behind or a broken neck while being wrestled to the ground by a policeman?

Proverbs 22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

we arm guards everwhere but schools. from gated communities to body guards and vips and yet how many fatalities occur there?

Teachers are no longer controlling those assigned to them, our nation's level of world ratings have dropped 10 points and I believe we're twentieth in the world now. Maybe it's time to demote them, lower their pay approximately 30% and use the savings to hire guards. If that doesn't put enough of a burr under their saddle, we fire them and hire illegal aliens at minimum hourly wages and double the guards.

lol.

Those poor kids that did the shootings were all zoned out by a headshrinkers milkshake just think of all the thousands of kids that are ticking time bombs all hyped up on the same octane fuel. We've allowed them to replace Jesus with Sigmund Freud the Holy Spirit with Ritalin..

You make it sound as if its the teachers' faults.

Sure, tie their hands behind their backs, and give the kids wet sponges, and see what happens. Well, you're seeing it now.

Some expensive research in the UK recently said that the reason why UK is about 24th in the leagues tables for reading and maths was disorder in the classrooms. And why is there disorder? Teachers' hands tied behind their backs, and sponges in the kids' hands.

Just think eh?

Many kids are now dead because of bullying too. They committed suicide because of it. But what can the school do about bullying? Oh yeah, counsel the little swine. Put then in expensively staffed 'sin-bins'. Hand out red, yellow and blue cards. Kiss their parents' boots when they stomp in and demand 'what are you doing to my little pet Johnny'.

Then watch the results. No, keep watching the results: they're right there in front of you right now.

Yeah, 24th in the league tables. All the bright kids are too terrified of the bullies to do well, in case they get beaten up for being swots.

Incredible. Readin' writin' and 'rithmetic: all lost for want of a hickory stick...
