I have not seen an army surplus store in years.

Are they still a thing?

I had a radio shack TRS-80 or 90 or something. People said the TRS stood for TRasH.
You had to use a portable cassette tape recorder for the hard drive.
Yeah - I almost bought either the TRS 80 (TRS stood for Tandy Radio Shack, btw) or a "Hot CoCo." (the Color Computer) somewhere about 1980. Got a Timex Sinclair TS1000 instead a few years later.

Radio Shack kept me supplied in circuit boards, components and a few ICs. In the late 70s I built my own guitar effects box using a synth chip I got at RS. I had Paul Clark and Phil Keaggy both try it out. Unfortunately it was not stable and then the chips (from Texas Instruments) went out of production.

I miss video game arcades. Never used them much myself, but they always got my attention whenever I'd see one in a mall. I guess they aren't really needed much anymore, since games are so easily available, but I still miss them, especially since about all I see nowadays in a few stores are some sad-looking crane games.

Those are deserving another thread .

I could dig up old locations of them in my photos .

I used to work at one in a mall.
The old mall had alladins castle .there was also video palace, one west by city limits on rt 60 . Diamond Jim's in the orange blossom mall a few games at skate town ,a few at a laundry mat not to far from video palace . Pantry pride had a few as did Broward drugs successor ,super x ,irc the movie theaters had a few games .Vero six did . Now the majestic ,the fort Pierce driving range had a lot and that has put out golf. That is still there but only is a driving range .
