[_ Old Earth _] Applications of Creationism

Abstinence-only sex education has been statistically linked to rise in teen pregnancy.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23782717/ (for example)
Basically, no amount of education can turn off your hormones. When the time comes you'll feel the natural urges of puberty; those who have had abstinence-only education will either be completely unprepared or ignorant of how to have sex, how to have it safely and the physical and emotional issues surrounding it or filled with misinformation that comes in to fill the void (there's an urban myth in Africa that having sex with a virgin will cure you of AIDS, as an example of such misinformation). Since most people will try sex and you cannot stop this, you should teach them how to have sex, how sex works and how to do it safely.

EDIT: Also, creationism is not taught as science, true, but neither is lamarckism, lysenkoism, orthogenesis, hindu creationism or any other psuedoscientific or religious belief. Why single out creationism?

The following strategy is repeatedly used by those who advocate “evolution only†education. They:
1. Define science to exclude the possibility of a creator.

Nope. Science doesn't do that, and can't. Even Richard Dawkins admits that science can't rule out God. Someone took advantage of you on that one.

2. Claim that all the evidence for our designer is “not science†and, therefore cannot be shown.

That's the other side of it. Science can't deny God, but it can't prove God, either.

3. Repeat, like a mantra, statements such as “evolution is the basis of scienceâ€Â

Show me one scientist of note who says that. You just made that one up.

4. Then give examples of minor changes within organisms as “proof†that one organism can change into a completely different type, while using the same word, ‘evolution’ for both the small and the enormous changes.

In the same sense that "walk" can mean "go to the refrigerator" and "go fifty miles."

Actual scientific evidence for any major evolutionary transformation is non-existent.

Someone really took advantage of you there. The major evidence for common descent includes:
1. Genetic information showing descent in the same way it is used for finding human relationships
2. Fossil information, showing intermediate forms
3. Conserved molecules, showing evolution of biochemical pathways
4. Observed speciations
5. Homologous organs, which show evolutionary commonalities not required by function.

No experiment ever performed has come even remotely close to showing how life could form from chemicals.

They lied to you about that, too. Evolutionary theory is not about the origin of life.

No experiment has shown how useful functioning information can be added to the DNA molecule by random changes.

That is done routinely by population geneticists. Would you like me to show you a simple case in which random mutation adds information to a population?

Yet, it can be experimentally demonstrated that every known mutation results in a net loss of original functioning information.

They lied to you about that, too. Gene duplication does just that. A copying error makes two copies of the same gene. One is then free to mutate and this has been directly observed to happen, increasing information.

The rest of your rant was just unsupported assertions. If you want to post some evidence for them, I'll see what we can do with it. Let me know if you want to see the numbers on information and evolution.

Yes! let's take a look... I said form 1960's on... you only shown 93 to 2003 and I do agree that the crime has dropped some in those years but you show nothing of the 70's and 80's... but again.. lets look form the early 60's to 2006...the population has not quite doubled but the murder rate has gone up over 300%...not to mention the others, rape, theft
http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

On the other hand, look at what it was before Darwin. The homicide rate was many times what it was, even in the 60s. Not that Darwin is entirely responsible for the reduction in violence. But it helped.

Victorians were worried about the rising crime rate: offences went up from about 5,000 per year in 1800 to about 20,000 per year in 1840.
http://www.ourwardfamily.com/1800's_britain.htm

With a population of about 17.8 million, that would be a homicide rate of about 111 per 100,000 people, many times what it was in the 1960s. The truth is, the crime rate peaked in the 60s, because the percentage of young males in the population peaked in the 60s. And it has declined mainly as the population of young males has declined. Didn't the people who fed you that bilge know this? Sure they did. But they were betting that you didn't know it.

this one show how many school shooting that have occurred since 1960...sad...

You got suckered on that, too. A child in school has about one chance in 11,000,000 of being shot in public schools. The hazard index puts it between drowning in a flood, and being hit by a meteorite.

In each school year, youth were over 50 times more likely to be murdered and were over 150 times more likely to commit suicide when they were away from school than at school.

Turns out that they are safer there then in their homes.

Barbarian observes:
Until very recently, teen pregnancies have been declining. The issue seems to be the "abstinence only" programs, many of which give false information

yes teenage pregnancies have declined, do to programs like "abstinence only"...

Unfortunately, that's not the truth. Since "Abstinence only" became implemented by the Bush administration, pregnancies are on the rise again. Lying to kids is always a bad idea, and many of those programs provide false information. And that leads to tragedies.

Conclusion

Abstinence-only programs show little evidence of sustained (long-term) impact on attitudes and intentions. Worse, they show some negative impacts on youth's willingness to use contraception, including condoms, to prevent negative sexual health outcomes related to sexual intercourse. Importantly, only in one state did any program demonstrate short-term success in delaying the initiation of sex; none of these programs demonstrates evidence of long-term success in delaying sexual initiation among youth exposed to the programs or any evidence of success in reducing other sexual risk-taking behaviors among participants.

The old way worked better; fewer sexually active kids, and a lot fewer pregnancies and STDs.

10: divorce rate up 111%

(Study by an evangelical group shows divorce is far higher for evangelicals)

Barbarian observes:
And this study is by an evangelical Christian group. If your argument is right, this means that praying is bad for society. I don't think so. More likely, you're just stuffed with prunes.

So let me get this straight whenever someone does not agree or have a different opinion than yours you resort to ...

Evidence. And you dodged the facts. For obvious reasons.

Christian along with non christians do get divorce's sadly but true, I and I repeat I never have said Christian are any better than non christians, we all sin and fall short of the Glory of God.. but as a Christian yes we are and will be forgiven, because we are covered by the blood of Christ.

But we can now safely discard the silly idea that it was caused by evolutionary theory.

violent crime has skyrocketed also up 995%

Notice, that I showed it dropped precipitously since Darwin's theory was accepted.

And, of course, you

13: SAT scores has plummeted since 1962-3. the US was once one of highest for its sat scores but now the US is ranked near the bottom of the world average...

(Barbarian points out that the "decline" was an artifact of more people taking the test, and that in each state the average correlates in a nice inverse proportion to the percentage of seniors taking the test)

Looks like you trusted the wrong folks, um?

wrong folk uh?...

Yeah, they lied to you about that, too.

well by the way I see it and all you have to do is check it out and stop looking at those site that hate christians,

You think the College Board (the administrators of the SAT) hate Christians? Most of them are Christians. Paranoid much? Besides, how do you account for the fact that the US is above average and gaining in identical tests with other nations? And since all those other nations teach evolution, even if you're right about them being better, it destroys your argument.

Why, the answer is easy If you teach kids, that eventually grow into adults that they come from monkey.. well they will act that way...

Barbarian chuckles:
Who said they come from monkeys? You honestly believe that? No wonder you hate education

(declines to offer any evidence)

Yep.

teach them there is no God and there is no one to answer to but themselves

Barbarian asks:
You think schools teach that?

(declines to show any evidence)

Yep.

and as far as ignorant....gee go down to your New York or LA school and many all across the US and visit ... of course after you pass through the metal detector... or are those imaginary also...

Barbarian chuckles:
Most places, yep. I've never been in a school with a metal detector. And I used to consult with a lot of them.

Most schools reject metal-detector use
Juvenile Justice Digest, Dec 31, 2002
Metal detectors in public schools continue to be rare, although the number of education districts using them is on the rise.

and as far as this debate on crime, school and things since God has been removed from school,

God is still there, I'm pleased to say. My daughter did an "at the flagpole" prayer with her friends regularly, and no one stopped her. She wore religious articles to school and prayed in school. The only restriction is that the government can't sponsor it. You've been suckered on that one, too.

If you actually are a Christian, why not start trusting Christ, instead of the clowns feeding you all that garbage?
