Bible Study Are the Ten Commandments valid for Christians today?

Sabbath is the seventh day as in the numbering of days according to God makes it a Saturday. It is the day God rested after creating everything including man and woman. God sanctified it meaning He set it apart form all the other days as a day He rested from all His work. From the time of Adam to that of Mt. Sinai it was never commanded as being a holy day or that all mankind was to rest on that day. It was a holy day as God being Holy and rested that day as we are commanded to keep that day as a memorial of all that God created was good.

I know it's late and I'm about to go to bed, but just out of curiosity makes you say that it was originally a Saturday?

It would be good to discuss the commandments, under the concept of the the New Covenant.

Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant or New Testament, as Moses was the mediator of the Covenant of Sinai, which is why it’s called the law of Moses, as the new is called the law of Christ.


Each covenant is governed by laws and commandments.

Most people today don’t understand that a covenant, especially a blood covenant is a serious matter, and should be entered into with all soberness, and sincerity.

Scripture is not silent with regard to a change from the seventh day to the first. You can find this in Daniel 7:25 if you understand who it is Daniel is speaking about, but I will not say who it is that changed Saturday Sabbath to Sunday, but they do worship the sun god Ra.

The church at the time changed worship from Saturday to Sunday.
I remember that it was changed to remember the day of Christ's resurrection...the first day of the week (Sunday).

You agree that Saturday is the correct day?
I don't think this will make too much difference since we don't really keep any day as God's anymore; unless one is retired and could do as he pleases.

Some teens are engaged in sport activities and most are centered around Sunday. They would also have to be deprived. And Saturday is not out of the picture.

I don't understand how we could possibly keep the Lord's day as it was kept in the O.T. times. ANY Lord's Day...Sat or Sun.

The O.C. and the N.C. are governed by different laws.
The O.C. had 613 of them....
The N.C. has only 2.

If we keep those 2 laws....all the laws will be covered.

The N.C. does not abolish the 10 commandments, the moral law, but gives us a new way to keep the law. Before it was through legality (thus The Law), but the N.C. is through love for God and help from the Holy Spirit.

Of course the O.C. is not required for salvation...
For if it was sufficient, the N.C. would not have been necessary.

By both, do you mean the law of Moses, or the Abrahamic Covenant?

I understand that you are comparing one of these to the New Covenant.

Which one?

We have the Abrahamic Covenant.

Then we have the Abrahamic Covenant with the law added to it temporarily until the Seed should come.

The we have the law taken out of the way, and the Covenant renewed into the New Covenant.

So it’s really one covenant that has been modified, and has evolved into what we have today.

Sabbath has always been a Saturday being the seventh day of the week. You have to study Exodus 12 in how God actually set up the Luna calendar of months and days.

However, from the Lord’s perspective there is one commandment. All commandments and laws and precepts, statutes and judgements, are all about how to go about keeping or obeying this commandment.



“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—a land flowing with milk and honey.’

God is love.

His Commandments are about love.

The way we obey the commandment to love God, is to Love our neighbor.

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. 1 John 4:20-21


Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

Were you not spoon fed as a baby until you learned to feed yourself? It's the same principal with learning the scriptures as all of us started out with very little knowledge other than knowing Jesus died for our sins. From there we grew in knowing when, why and how of Christ birth, death and resurrection as being God's plan of his salvation before the foundation of the world. We grow in faith and the knowledge of God's word as it comes by the Holy Spirit working through others to help teach us. If what is being taught does not line up with scripture then these teachings are that of man and not the Holy Spirit.

If we love God, truly, we will do as He commands.

The reason I like Mathew 22:37-39 is because Jesus said that we are to love our neighbor AS OURSELVES.

If we don't accept ourself and love ourself,,,it is impossible to love anyone else.

At some point in life, we need to be satisfied with who we are and then we'll be able to love everyone else too.

I like to think that Jesus was the first and the greatest psychologist

So many self-help books on the shelves. If a person would get to know God, it would truly cut down a lot on their problems because if God is for us, who can be against us?

Yes, Saturday is the seventh day of the week. Exodus 20:8-11 is God's instruction on keeping the Saturday Sabbath. It was never part of the seven commandments given to Noah after the flood, but given to Moses after the exodus as the Israelites stayed at MT. Sinai for a year before entering the promised land.

Many things have changed through out the generations from the time of Noah and it was odd that God did not give him the sabbath commandment, but only gave it to Moses in God's laws as God was pretty explicit in how we are to keep it. But, then we read what what is written in Matthew 12:1-13 especially vs. 8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. He that commanded the law of the sabbath could also dispense with it as we can see in the writings of Matthew. Why can Jesus dispense of it, because He is the Lord of the sabbath as Christ is now our sabbath as we rest in Him.

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Christ is greater than the temple and has all the perfections of the divine nature in Him and is equal to God in power and glory, even as a mediator who has all power in heaven and earth that God gave Him. Christ is Lord of the sabbath.
