Bible Study Are the Ten Commandments valid for Christians today?

The O.C. and the N.C. are governed by different laws.
The O.C. had 613 of them....
The N.C. has only 2.

If we keep those 2 laws....all the laws will be covered.
Mathew 22:37-39

The N.C. does not abolish the 10 commandments, the moral law, but gives us a new way to keep the law. Before it was through legality (thus The Law), but the N.C. is through love for God and help from the Holy Spirit.

Of course the O.C. is not required for salvation...
For if it was sufficient, the N.C. would not have been necessary.
Hebrews 8:6

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

The reason I like Mathew 22:37-39 is because Jesus said that we are to love our neighbor AS OURSELVES.

If we don't accept ourself and love ourself,,,it is impossible to love anyone else.

Yes so true. Very good point as usual.

I struggled for years with guilt and shame and hating myself.

I wasn’t very loving to others.

Yes, Saturday is the seventh day of the week. Exodus 20:8-11 is God's instruction on keeping the Saturday Sabbath. It was never part of the seven commandments given to Noah after the flood, but given to Moses after the exodus as the Israelites stayed at MT. Sinai for a year before entering the promised land.

Many things have changed through out the generations from the time of Noah and it was odd that God did not give him the sabbath commandment, but only gave it to Moses in God's laws as God was pretty explicit in how we are to keep it. But, then we read what what is written in Matthew 12:1-13 especially vs. 8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. He that commanded the law of the sabbath could also dispense with it as we can see in the writings of Matthew. Why can Jesus dispense of it, because He is the Lord of the sabbath as Christ is now our sabbath as we rest in Him.

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Christ is greater than the temple and has all the perfections of the divine nature in Him and is equal to God in power and glory, even as a mediator who has all power in heaven and earth that God gave Him. Christ is Lord of the sabbath.
Very interesting about the Noahic Law. (?)
I used to know someone that followed that belief....

Want to add that in Exodus, when the Israelites are led out of Egypt, I do believe that the reason God gave the commandment to rest on the 7th day is because they had been slaves for such a long time that they'd forgotten what it meant to rest.

God made us in His image....HE rested in the sense that He ceased from His work of creation...God does not need rest.

But if he ceased from His work to "rest",,,so then must we cease from our work at least one day a week to rest and thing about God and devote that day to Him...or at least what we can.

I don’t see where he said we have to earn our way into heaven.

It may seem like he is implying that, but there also may be something else to what he is saying.

Let’s give him a chance to further explain himself, if he will.

Thanks. JLB

He said (in I do believe the first post on the second page) that we must all obey the Ten Commandments otherwise we won't be saved. Sure if we aren't following the Ten Commandments that's a key factor that we aren't saved,.. but it doesn't mean that we won't be if we repent and truly trust Christ as our Savior and it also doesn't mean that we have to obey them a hundred percent because God already knows that isn't going to happen. Then he also insulted me by saying that if I ask questions about the scripture that I don't understand that I must be a false Christian which goes against TOS and is also just plain rude! :angry3

Sabbath has always been a Saturday being the seventh day of the week. You have to study Exodus 12 in how God actually set up the Luna calendar of months and days.

Ah,.. I get it now. :)

Ah,.. I get it now. :)

Calm down HIR!
The other member said it to you,,,but he meant it for any one of us.

No one can judge you but God.

As to what you're saying to JLB regarding following the commandments...you stated everything the way I also understand it...but there are some that believe that behavior is not important because they have accepted Jesus and are saved and so they feel that Jesus is going to just do everything for them and they have to do nothing,,which includes obeying the moral law...they just don't think they have to. Fortunately, there aren't too many like this..but they do exist in Christianity.

Oh no!

I’m so sorry.

I hope he will come back and clarify what he means.

Surely he didn’t mean that.

I agree with everything you said but either way what Elihoenai said doesn't make it right.

I sure hope so because what other way could he possibly have meant it?

Ah,.. I get it now. :)

Slow your roll there girlfriend. We are to follow the ten commandments as being obedient to God as they are a part of the moral laws as summed up in the greatest commandment of love, Matthew 22:35-40.

If we say we love Christ, but do not follow His commandments then we are a liar, and the truth is not in us.

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

From post #45 Elihoenai said: Those requiring Spoon Feeding are lost souls who are brainwashed and exploited in the Fake Christian Churches.

This was not directly addressed to you, but a few of us showed him that was not true about being spoon fed. There was nothing rude being said, but only that of what he believes.

Normally everyone gets two days off a week to rest from their work, but even then there are chores to do around the house and kids involved with activities, but yet we need to take Christ with us wherever we go and always give Him the best of our day.

Yes I know all that but if we are truly being honest with ourselves and each other none of us follow His commands one hundred percent, otherwise we wouldn't need a Savior. As to his beliefs I hope they change because in my opinion that's a really ignorant and arrogant attitude to have. If we want to learn more about God and the way He wants us to live our lives,.. I can't really think of anything that proves we truly are a real Christian,

Anywho, on a separate note yes I am well aware that I need to take my chill pills,.. but I think that this is something else extremely important to keep in mind. I do believe that we all get angry sometimes and at least I have learned how to keep it better under control as I mature and grow in my faith in Christ. :) Let's not forget that Jesus Himself got angry sometimes as well.

I can't really think of anything that proves we truly are a real Christian,

A true Christian is one who knows Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, Matthew 16:16. Love is the greatest commandment, Matthew 22:35-40, and if we are walking in love than we should have no problem following these commandments.

You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.

Yes, Jesus got angry, but he never allowed His anger to cause Him to sin.
Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil.

You shall not covet.

I don't know why the whole message didn't get quoted, but I meant that I couldn't think of anything else that proves that we are truly Christian than being interested in learning more about God and the way that He wants us to live our lives.

Then you should have said it that way instead of saying "I can't really think of anything that proves we truly are a real Christian". When you say it this way it sounds like a question being asked and others will respond to that. Since we are not face to face we can take some responses the wrong way.

Hopefully this will help you when others seem to be giving you responses that anger you. :)

Yeah I know, I should learn to proof read lol! :lol (I actually thought that I did write it like that.) And yes, it does a bit. I understand. :)
