Growth Are you Letting your Light Shine?

“Let your light shine before men, that the may see you good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) NKJ

A believer does not have an inherent light; we have a reflective light. We reflect the light of our Lord. Do you reflect the light of your Lord or is our light being downed out by other things.

We lament the killing of Christians in Egypt and the Sudan. We lament the alarming rate of abortion, and we hate gay marriage. These things are just a symptom of a bigger problem. The problem is that Christians will not stand up for the truth of Scripture and stand in the gap for the hurting in the world today.

The Bible says we are the “salt of the earth” and when the salt loses its flavor it is “good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” (Matthew 5:13) NKJ Many Christians have lost their flavor because they will not stand up for what is right. They expect the American Government to do it for them.

We become appalled when our government won’t stand up for some cause that we believe in. Why is it the American government’s job to do that? Isn’t if the responsibility of Christians to stand for righteousness and goodness in society? We should not go to a corrupt government to enforce righteousness when it is our responsibility to do that.

Are you being salt and light in this perverse generation? This does not mean that you vote for your favorite politician or send money to your favorite ministry. I mean do you stand? Is there a hurting person in your community? Do you go and give them food and pray with them?

Is there something going on in the your community that is ungodly? What do you do about it: ignore it, send a letter to your local government official, or do you pray for the Lords guidance and where he wants you to help in the situation? There are many places to serve. All we have to do is look around.

When it comes to unrighteousness and sin it abounds today. The Lord said, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38) NKJ Lord I pray you send labors into the harvest today.

Sandy,

I do not necessarily agree with your statement. Believers do have and inherent and internal light and that light is the Spirit of Christ, and the image that light that shines forth is the resurrection of Christ. But you are also correct in saying that we have a reflective light; but that reflected light is of the flesh, and it is a reflection of our obedience to the law of sin in the flesh, and it is a reflection of death. But the light that comes forth from within you is life.

For what do you pray that the Lord should send laborers into the harvest? To bring more people to the death of Christ through obedience to sin? Or that they should bring more people to life in Christ through his resurrection and that they may learn to walk in the newness of Spirit in the Kingdom of the Lord?

Matthew 9:37-38 is very wide as I see it.Sandy's view finds application as she explains ,and I agree .The salt losing it's punch part is also relavant if one wishes to have effect on a governments domestic or foreign policy from a Christian perspective. But it must be born in mind that in most countries their are other gods which people pray to , and their votes and interests also count including desciples of the evil one.
So if we speak of "workers" for the Christian View then sermons are going to have to be geared more to mobilising the congregation away from mere audience attending a Sunday "how to save yourself" meeting to a more "get out there "evangilistic approach and draw the unsaved through our "lights" at home or at work.We are all desciples ,each with his or her givern talents .So let "God's will be done on earth as it is in Heaven" and prove to Christ that the workers are not so few and that the "salt"
will work in the stew , if we sacrifice ourselves to the Lords Service.

Our inherent light is sinful and unrighteous. The light of the Holy Spirit is not our inherent light. The Holy Spirit is a reflection of God's light. We are nothing without Christ. We should bring people to both obedience and newness of life, shouldn't we?

Many need to get out of their comfort zone and let God out of the box they keep Him in. Matthew 28:16-20 is our commission from Christ and set forth in His spoken word. Matthew 25:31-46 are Christ continued works done through us as we allow that light of Christ shine through us as being an obedient servant that brings glory to His name. There is an urgent call for those of us who will not compromise the word of God and will stand on that very foundation of faith that is Christ Jesus that we are also partakers in His life, death and resurrection taking no concern for ourselves what others can and will try to do to us, but surrender all of ourselves to Christ to be worthy of His glorious calling so we will always be pleasing to the Father in all things of servitude. Be not afraid of those who can kill you for there is nothing more they can do, but fear (respect) Him (God) that has power to cast into Hell, Luke 12:4,5.

Good to see you back. No truer words have been spoken.
