Never read the whole Bible through? Is that good advise to someone who is openly admitting to not know much of what the Bible says? You say you have what is necessary for salvation, do you not have a daily battle with sin?

I believe he meant that he never read the whole Bible, not that we shoudn't.

I haven't read the entire Bible as of yet but I want to. It is a desire of mine. I'm really trying to get the Pauline Epistles down first, then the Gospels, and then I'll hit the OT hard.
When you get the opportunity to read from Genesis through Revelation it is such a blessing. The Old Testament shows what God had to contend with concerning all of the unbelief and the nature of sinful man. The Old Testament will show you the age old pagan worshipping that the prophets of God contended with. These old pagan worshipping practices exist today and are called New Age.

Solo,

If God revealed to you through a vision or through the "Word" that you had to kill modern day pagans would you comply?

Only if it were you! :D Otherwise I would consider it a devil speaking that nonsense. God's visions or interpretations of the Word of God will never contradict his Word. That is why it is very important to know his entire word. Otherwise one would end up believing that garbage of the New Age Mystic movement which is a deception of the devil.

lol....

Fair enough...

I couldnt resist asking this one....

Solo if God came to you like he did with doubting Thomas and said put your hands in my wounds it is really I. He says I died for you on the cross will you do one favor for me? Would you do it? Would you read about other philosophies so you will open your mind and heart and better understand the most sacred heart of Jesus?

Jesus came to me when the Spirit opened my eyes to my unrighteousnes and my need for a saviour. He showed me the truth of my being a sinner, and that Jesus lived, died, and resurrected so that I might have eternal life. I believed without having to touch and see Jesus physically as Thomas did. I believed when the Spirit of God birthed me into the truth of the gospel of Jesus. It is that same Holy Spirit that convinces me of the lacking of man's religious systems worldwide that deceive many to eternal damnation. It is a shame. That is why Jesus told us to go into all the world to observe the teachings of Jesus and to baptize them in the name of Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. There will be those in the Kingdom of God from every nation and they will all have gotten their by being born of God never contradicting the Word of God.

Your conviction is very inspirational.

I have had my own "Jesus Experiences" as well.

Your path is definitely a safe one as long as you strive to live by the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.

I really have no beef with you. (even if you are a Sunday worshipper)

I just see some value in philosophies other than modern day Christian approved and sealed versions. This does not take away my conviction that Jesus was the Son of God. I merely see the Light of Truth in other cultures in SOME cases.

You are OK in my book.... in fact you remind me of my Uncle who is always berating me for my New Age ways.... lol

It sounds like your uncle and I would get along just fine! :D

I've never read the Bible all the way through. Actually, I don't think I've read half of it. I've always just picked out certain chapters. Ones I know that I'd be able to understand. I always get lost with who's who and what's going on.

Its ok!

Half of the OT is nothing more than barbaric genocide and slavery topped off with degredation of women and the establishment of the Law.

Then you have Job.....

That guy really gets jacked!

Soma,
You have not the proper concept of Job let alone the OT. Hence, your statment is sheer foolishness.

Ephesians 4:13-15 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, who is the head, even Christ:

Soma, your search has just begun. Seek God, not men.

Proverbs 1:1-7 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their riddles. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Lets look at this...

Proverbs 2:1-6 My son, if you will receive my words, and lay up my commandments with you; So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yea, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 3:13-15 Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. For the gain from it is better than the gain from silver, and the profit thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared unto her.

What does She offer?

Proverbs 3:16-17 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

Who is She?

Proverbs 3:18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retains her.

Starting to sound familiar Soma? Again, who is SHE? Who is Wisdom?

Proverbs 3:19 The LORD by wisdom has founded the earth; by understanding has he established the heavens.

The LORD by WISDOM founded the earth? Why soma, what could this possibly mean?

Well then...

Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at many times and in various manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Has in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

he made the Worlds]

2 plus 2 is 4 soma. The OT is a wealth of God's mercy, not a story of his wrath as you would so like to believe.

May God bless you and take the veil from your eyes.

Proverbs 3:11-12 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.

And I'm surprised nobody mentioned the option of the dramatized audio Bibles? I'm going to get myself one as soon as I have some extra $$.
Holly :-D

Hi Holly :D

I've got the NIV dramatized version. It's awsome! [especially if you spend a lot of time driving like I do]

I like it because I can just take a journey in it. When I study the OT, it makes is so much easier having a fuller background of the OT and I get that background from hearing the Word.

As far as all the names... some of it's pretty cool, then there is that worthless knowlege that you wonder why you got stuck remembering it LOL. Really though, do a study on some of the names if your really bored. Names back then meant something in relation to the person, unlike in today's world where we just like the sound of a name.

Take care.

Hey Brother Solo :D

I can't say honestly that I've read the Bible cover to cover, but I agree with what your saying and I would like to add that nothing new is under the sun.

Look at Amos for example, or Malachi in regard to worship and how it applies today. Or look at Joseph how he was falsly accused and even Jonah... who really wanted to jump off a cliff and complained when God offered salvation to those wretched, evil syrians

anyway,
Hope all is well with you and yours Solo.

In Christ,

Studying verses Skimming

Since reading the bible takes time and meditating on the word, If anyone thinks they can read the bible within a month and that's all they have to do, :-? ..... well... they are then not going to reap the full benefits from "STUDYING" the bible as opposed to "skimming" through the bible.

Don't be foolish by thinking you don't have to STUDY the bible OFTEN.

In reality, it takes a lifetime of growing in the word and applying the principles and precepts within.

  1. These days anyone can read the bible and listen to the verses at the same time. Just do this:
  2. Go to this link: http://www.audio-bible.com/bible/bible.html
    [/*:m:9f4af]
  3. Print out the outline of the chapters on the left side of the page,
    [/*:m:9f4af]
  4. Dedicate yourself to read along with listening to the audio a few chapters every day.
    [/*:m:9f4af]
  5. After you have finished reading a chapter mark it off from the printed outline.
    [/*:m:9f4af]
  6. Repeat steps 1 - 4 for the rest of your life.

You learn to know your parents AS you are growing up with them and it is a continual lifetime relationship with them. You don't stop communicating with them, so what make anyone think they don't have to keep up with a relationship of learning to know God? Getting to know the love and wisdom of the Lord God is a lifetime of relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. It's a daily thing. :bday: :D [/*:m:9f4af]

Reading the bible just one time isn't enough!

You will get through the bible within a year if you dedicate yourself to reading at least three chapters a day. But it takes a lifetime of learning.

.

I´m reading it all from the begining. I started this year. I have never done that, i used to read it in pieces...

You should really give it a try, it´s one of the most interesting reading experience you´ll ever have! There is so much to learn from the life of those in the old and new testments... To read the Holly Bible is a lifetime experience!

 I've never read the Bible all the way through. Actually, I don't think I've read half of it. I've always just picked out certain chapters. Ones I know that I'd be able to understand. I always get lost with who's who and what's going on.

So with that said, does anyone know a really good study Bible or study aid that could help?

I know some people are going to suggest continuing to go to Bible Study and have group disscusions but with my time and schedule, those things aren't as easy to get to as I would like.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

I am a little late posting to this thread, but I felt I had to contribute here.

When I was in a private school in Maryland I had a teacher who had read throught the Bible something like over 130 times. All the students joked that he read it using the Bible in a year plan.

He was very knowledgable in the Bible and a very religous person, but I always thought that he viewed this feat as a bragging point rather than a way to grow closer to God.

I think that reading the Bible cover to cover is a great feat, but one that should be done as a personal accomplishment. Not something to brag about. I hope to read it cover to cover some time.

Right now I am reading the NT through, but I also skim through other parts of the Bible. Sometimes I just open to a random page and start reading. I find this the most fun, and it seems I find a passage that applies to me everytime I do this.

As far as the who's who of the Bible, I found this reading plan,
http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/r ... phical.php

it is a 121 day plan startng from genesis and highlights the major players of the Bible. It seems awesome and something that I am starting rather soon.

I dont think there is a wrong way to read the Bible, as long as you tight your time and savor every bit.

I suggest the One Year Bible. My husband reads and enjoys it. It has a reading for each day that allows you to finish the Bible in one year! Go for it! You will not regret it! And once you finish, get yourself some reward!
