astaxanthin fixed my skin

I'm into supplements. I take lots of them, mostly to prevent side effects (especially the dreaded tardive dyskinesia) from my daily dose of Abilify.

Anyway, I added in 10mgs of astaxanthin, up from 4mgs, to help my skin. I'm prone to flakiness, redness, minor acne, and terrible razor bumps. I use generic retin-a from an online Indian pharmacy, and that helps a lot. I was still having problems, though, with redness and occasional flakes.

Its pretty amazing. No more flakes, no more redness, no more irritation, and my skin gets even fewer razor bumps (before they had been reasonably under control w/ the retin-a). I've had skin problems since I was 12 or so, and this is the healthiest my skin has been...ever.

Just thought I'd post because, honestly, astaxanthin is doing more for me than many prescription products ever did, and for considerably less money and hassle.

yeah, I've been working on my diet. I just thought I'd post that because supplements have really helped my health tremendously. I don't know if I caught a bunch of bad recessive genes or what, but I used to have all kinds of problems that required psychiatrists, dermatologists, etc. etc. Now, I just eat OK, exercise a bit, don't do drugs, and pop tons of supplements and I'm good to go.

You are testimony to the type of nutrition and diet I always promote here and why I detest drugs. Rather than treating the symptoms where the doctor says, "Here is a pill you have to take for the rest of your life." (without getting to the cause), you have found the relationship between food and good healthy life. This is why God's Word is compared to food --- you need food (not a spiritual fad like a drug) to mature spiritually, and the same applies to the physical realm with proper nutrition. I fail to see why many Christians can't see this and run to doctors all the time (they are OK for diagnostic purposes or trauma medicine, but not for metabolic and nutritional issues which most of disease is). However, I am overall pleased with the Christians on this forum. Most would agree with you.

As you probably know, astaxanthin is related to a type of vitamin A, an important vitamin for things such as healthy skin, eyes and immune system. I'm an "alphabet" man. I simply take all the vitamins A-Z and minerals along with my nutrition. For the minerals, just look at the periodic table of elements and you won't miss any. :lol

Your approach is a lot like mine. I opted for the Orthomolecular approach to mental health. High dose niacinamide for anxiety+mood swings+psychosis, lots of C, E, zinc, selenium. Then I threw in some other things for more cosmetic concerns (hair and skin), and the results have been outstanding. I'm down to 3 pharmaceuticals: one for mood, one for hair, and one for skin. Compared to the wallet-busting combos I used to need just to be kinda stable and halfway decent looking, this is progress.

Let me clarify about the periodic table. :lol

It acts as a reminder for those minerals we should have. I think there's about a dozen minerals on there we need regularly. But people tend to look at the ingredients on a multi-mineral tablet with lots of minerals listed, and think they have everything. Then when we look at a periodic table, we may remind ourselves, "where's the selenium?, or where's the manganese? or where's the chromium?" There's some more obscure minerals that we overlook but with the table we ask ourselves, "can I use that?" or... "I better stay away from that." etc. We are then assured to get the proper supplements that have all the minerals we need.

No, no uranium or mercury. The table is just there so that one does not forget what they "should" have; sort of like a shopping list. But on some lists we also have laundry detergent along with our eggs and vegetables, but we don't eat that.:lol
