Foot of the cross

They were watching from a distance
And they could not take their eyes from You
You were bleeding, they were weeping
Faithful sisters, they had followed You

They did not understand, they could not see
They were mourning their loss
As the sky turned black and the Earth turned red
At the foot of the Cross

He was standing near Your mother
They were so close, they could hear You sighing
All around them angry voices
Pierced the darkness and You were dying

But they would not leave, they lingered there
No matter the cost
They were staying and they were praying
At the foot of the Cross

Keep me near the Cross, near the Cross
May I never stray so far
That I cannot see what flowed down for me
At the foot of the Cross

Now I'm standing in Your presence
And I cannot take my eyes from You
You have risen, I'm forgiven
Precious Saviour, oh I worship You

No, I'm not looking back
I've heard Your voice and I'm staying here
I've made my choice, for now it's real
Now I kneel at the foot of the Cross

Keep me near the Cross, near the Cross
May I never stray so far
That I cannot see what flowed down for me
At the foot of the Cross

Keep me near the Cross, near the Cross
May I never stray so far
That I cannot see what flowed down for me
At the foot of the Cross

I do not know these songs, but it seems to contradict itself. If so now that you are standing in His presence, then why would you remain kneeling at the foot of the cross? Jesus isn't hanging on the cross, and He's not returning to the cross to hang on it once again. If you are in His presence, then you would be inside the city walls of New Jerusalem. If you wait kneeling before the cross where Jesus was crucified, then you remain outside the city walls.

Paul in Hebrews admonished us about crucifying to ourselves the Son of God again. Is that not what they are doing when they stay kneeling at the foot of the cross?

Hebrews 6:6
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Those who loved him and knew him best, those who followed him and ate with him, they did not wait before the cross. They waited by his tomb; only he was not there. If he's not on the cross and he's not in his tomb, then why do you wait before places of death?

Jesus is risen, and if you stand in His presence indeed; then what is it you are waiting at the cross for?

If you would have noticed I posted this on Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. On that day they were all standing in the presence of the Lord weeping and crying for at that time they had no understanding as they stood at the foot of the cross.

Keep me near the cross that I may never stray so far from forgetting the finished works of Christ as He laid His own life down that we can have life eternal with Him. How could one calling themselves a Christian not understand this song.

Jesus was crucified this past Friday? I was busy with work and doctors appointments; must have missed it.

Jokes aside, why didn't you address my actual comments about the words to the song you posted? Do you not understand what it is I asked?

I did address your comment. Did you even listen to the song? Do you not know what it means to be in remembrance of the finished works on the cross?

It's the same thing with communion, do this in remembrance of me.

Sorry, but you addressed absolutely nothing concerning my comment. NOTHING.

Did I listen to the song? No. I read the words to the song that you posted. Hence, the questions I asked about the words in the song.

Forget the song. Address my questions please.

How do you respond?

Hi EZ
I have several comments regarding the above.....

1. We are forever kneeling at the foot of the cross. This is what worship is.
Worship is many things....
it's the way we live for God, Romans 12:2....
it's giving him praise, especially as a witness and also in private Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 5:16...
it's what we DO for Him, of course, this could be anything that is done in His name Colossians 3:17...
it could be praying Philippians 4:6...
it could be a liturgy in a church, etc.

Every position we take has a meaning in the spiritual realm...just as Jesus sat when He wanted to teach.
Standing means we stand with God as His friend
Sitting means we are ready to listen to Him and learn from Him
Kneeling shows respect and adoration...which is worship. It shows that we are less than He is and that He is our Lord.

2. The New Jerusalem is not here yet.
That will come at the end of the world. Revelation 21:1-8
Right now The Kingdom of God is here.
If we're in the Kingdom of God...we are inhabitants of God's property and not satan's (which is the rest of the world).

3. Hebrews 6:6
4For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
6and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.
7For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;
8but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.

What exactly would be your point as to Hebrews 6:6?
Many Jews were beginning to doubt that Jesus was the Messiah and were thinking of returning to The Law.
So do you believe that if someone falls away, he can never return to God?
Read the parable of the Prodigal Son.
Read verse 7 and 8 above....
not all that fall away become thorns and thistles...
some return to God and He waits for them with open arms.
God always looks for His lost sheep.

4. Those who loved and knew Jesus were not waiting at the cross.
This is correct.
They were frightened and believed they might be crucified next. Not a happy thought since they had not seen the risen Christ yet and did not have the power of the Holy Spirit, after which they all went to their sacrificial deaths.

They were instead, hiding. Most probably at the home of Martha and Mary and Lazarus where they had spent the entire Holy Week. They were hiding out of fear for their lives. So, yes, they were not at the foot of the cross...but they sooner or later would be..and Stephen was the first recorded that gave his life for Jesus and his beliefs.

Only John was at the foot of the cross. The one Jesus loved most.
The one Jesus loved most.

How do you respond?
I respond by saying you just don't get it as it is something we remember being memorialized, just like Passover, in what Jesus did for His love for everyone.

You are partially right as the disciples did not wait before the cross, but because they all fled in fear they to would be taken by the Roman guards as being followers of Jesus and be killed as He was killed. Even Peter denied knowing Him three times. They did not wait by the tomb, Matthew 27:57-61 as only one man begged for the body of Jesus, wrapped Him in linen and laid Him in his own tomb, Matthew 27:57-61.

They didn't even recognize Him when He came to them and told them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat as they went in the evening to fish and then gathered themselves in the upper room behind locked doors in fear the Jews would siege them, John 21:1-14.

There are three times written in the scriptures where Jesus appeared unto His disciples and they didn't even recognized Him until He proved to them who He was as they had no understanding at that time that God would raise them from the dead. , Luke 24:36-49 John 20:19-20; 21:1-12

None, but John, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene and other women followers of Christ were present during the crucifixion. Only one man begged Pilate for the body of Jesus and wrapped Him in linen and laid Him in the tomb while Mary and Mary Magdalene were sitting over against the sepulcher, Matthew 27:57-61.
