Back yard fire

How lame is this- my kids have never known a fire in the back yard. its so funny they are panicking about the consequences. What have we done to our kids? Tonight my kids wil have a fire and play with sparklers and will have fond memories of it, as I did :) fires are fun in winter.. But ut not if they find the petrol cans in the shed. But then again my shed would improve if it burned down lol

Its all good you only live once..on earth

freezing here no fire ban and the kids loved it they had fun, like we used to

Wonderful Chris!

Simple pleasures have such lasting memories, Hope they got some nasty junk food! fire roasted hot dogs or smores!

We had marshmallows on sticks Reba

@ nick yeah the really cold usually only lasts a few weeks in winter. I remember feeling sorry for the guys in the northern hemisphere a few months ago when we were living in tropical weather and swimming at the beach

You know out here we have something called "spare the air" days or nights. burn ban, fire place ban we're even encouraged to take public transit.

yeah we have that stuff too but I was only burning a few sticks the fire I made was as big as a couple of dinner plates and went for about 30 min just to show our kids

Rocky, you must live in the Bay Area. In the Central Valley and up in the foothills they burn their debris all winter long.

They can ban you from having fires? Even in your own house?!?! How does that work? :confused

Glad your kids enjoyed the fire. It's a staple of my summer nights. Nothing like a warm fire in the middle of the summer when that northern wind reminds you of the impending winter.

And Rocky, are you serious? No fireplace fires? That's gotta be like in the middle of summer right? I don't know how I could stand this house if our coal fire was going between November and April every year!

In Australia, we get HEAPS of bushfires. Espeically in Chris and my state. In another state we had many towns just burnt to the ground a couple of years ago. Sometimes in summertime Sydney is literally surrounded by fires. The fire season is extreme. So when the Buero of Meterology detects that the fire threat is above a certain level (high, I think) then all fires apart from fireplace fires are banned. So you can have a fire in your fireplace, or a kitchen fire. But any other open fire, even if it's in your backyard is illegal, as it is simply too dangerous. Exception is a gas BBQ. If you use a log fire for your BBQ, then no barbie for you!

It's just the way it works. No biggie really. And yes, it can be fairly easily policed.

How about charcoal grills? 'cause everyone knows they make a better grilling medium than propane. :D Even Hank Hill will admit that that.

And you guys have a fire season? That's wild.

Charcoal'd be ok.

And yeah, it's pretty wild. :)

Here in California it is mostly the EPA that controls our fireplaces and back yard fires. We do have a fire season...

Man oh man. I tell you what. Everyday I find a new reason not to leave New England and "fire season" is one of them!

For the bay they track air quality. No fire places, trash burn (I think its illegal here anyway) and they cut fares on public transit sometimes.
Wait a minute… here you go.
