I think I've polled this before, but I can't find it. :-?

What are your thoughts on this? I ask because there are times we go out to eat and I enjoy a mixed drink. Also, the doctors have told my mom AND me to drink a glass of wine once a day since my mom has heart disease. The only problem with that is that I think wine is DISGUSTING. YUCK!

Kinda an odd question to ask me. I drink, socially, but I don't do it to get drunk. I've gotten drunk a few times actually, for the simple reason I'm too busy chattering, I've forgotten how much I've drank.

Some people drink constantly, to escape a reality. Now that I could view as a bad thing, maybe not sin, but I don't know.

Jesus supposibly drank wine at the last supper, so I guess if consuming alchohol is a sin period, guess that makes him a sinner to?

I too am interested in people's general take on this.

I'm currently opting for #3, but I'm undecided really.

You can drink unfermented grape juice and get the same health effects as a glass of wine.

Ideally I dont believe drinking should be done because we as humans are weak and prone to failure.

When you put a bottle in someones hand after long enough time they will abuse it.

You dont need alcohol to be healthy and that money you spend for a five dollar drink could go to the poor or to something more Godly.

I have seen firsthand the slippery slope of alcohol and it will eventually kill even the most strong minded person.

My analogy to it is like a person who pets a Rattlesnake to feel its nice skin but one day gets nabbed. Its just not worth your life to mess with it.

You talking about that reminds me. The other day, I found a rubbermaid container of strawberries that I had added sugar to (for strawberry shortcakes) and I forgot about them. When I opened them to dump them out, I gagged. They smelled JUST LIKE a bottle of liquor. Ewwww...it was so nasty! I like a mixed drink occasionally, but not straight liquor. Just the smell gags me.
(have you figured out yet that I gag REALLY easily? )

So, is that how they make wine? Just let fruit sit for a long time?

I believe so. They put fruits in containers and let them sit for years. Supposibly the length of time, makes it's value go up. Almost like real-estate.

To say drinking alcohol at all is a sin, is clearly an overboard statement. We Know for a fact that Jesus drank wine.

However, getting drunk isn't the only sin that may involve Alcohol. If you have a person who you know has a problem with alcohol, and you drink in their presense anyway, that too is sin.

This stuff smelled so potent. And it was only in there for like 2 weeks.

Oh boy....do you know what you've just gotten yourself into?

If not, then you soon will! I've had this argument with my in-laws so many times that I finally gave up. I won't say what they always argue back though because I can guarantee you that someone else on here will say it.

Especially since you added extra sugar. Tons of food for the yeast to eat!

Yeast is natural in just about all foods. As the yeast feasts on the sugars, they produce alcohol and CO2 as byproducts. When they make wine, they usually add some yeast to the juice, but it's not always necessary.

All you did is what people in prisons do all the time. Steal some sugar and some fruit, put it in a plastic bag and viola! Homebrewed wine.

It's actually the exact same process used to make bread. Except in that case the alcohol disapates into the air during baking, and the CO2 makes the bread rise and gives it those little holes that makes wonderbread so soft.

So, if I had drank the stuff, it could have gotten me drunk? I would think it would make me extremely sick. I just remember the smell and it smelling just like a bottle of fruit flavored liquor.
*shuddering at the memory*

Yes indeed! Beer is so amazingly tasty, and there is none better than the Trappists.

Ewwww...how anyone can drink beer is beyond me. I've tried several kinds, but can't get past that first sip. My hubby on the other hand thinks it tastes "so good".

Most beer is about appealing to me as coffee. Honestly, I don't know how some of you people drink that stuff. It tastes like something you'd use to degrease an engine. But, thats just me.

Well, I did have a good tasting beer once, it was a chinese resturant... forget what it's called though.

Oh, isn't it called Saki or something like that?

I don't like coffee either. I think it stinks and it makes me want to gag.

Hmmm...things that make me want to gag: Beer, straight liquor, rotten strawberries with sugar on them, coffee, steamed lobster (when it's got that vinegary smell to it....UGH), my hubby's poots, my kids heads after they've been playing outside and sweating, urine....I'm sure I could think of more, but that will do for now.

You know what I LOVE the smell of? You're gonna think I'm really weird...

I love the smell of tires. Like the smell of a tire shop. BAHAHAHAHA!!! What a freak I am! LOL!!! When I go to Sams, they have their tire dept right there at the exit. I savor the smell when I leave...

No ma'am. Because if that makes you weird, so am I. I love the smell of tires, or freshly burnt rubber (peeling out), or the interior of a new car. It's almost comfortable, like the car dealer is playing a mindgame with you!

My smell that I like that makes me weird, would probably be the smell of a brand new computer or gaming console. Anyone else ever noticed this? Buy a new computer or console, and it has a distinct smell to it. No idea why, but I love it!

LOL!!! Yes, game consoles DO have a distinct smell to them. I havent smelled a new one in years though, so I can't tell you if i like it or not.

That's too funny that you like the smell of tires too. My hubby thinks I'm a freak.

American "beer" such as Bud, Miller, Coors is not real beer---it is watered-down flavorless additive-filled nastiness. If all you've tried is nationally produced American beer, then I don't blame you for hating the taste ---I hate it too. Real beer has an amazing range of tastes. From nutty brown ales, to chocolaty stouts, to fruity Belgians, to bitter IPAs, to caramely doppelbocks---there's a beer for any taste. If you think you hate beer, I challenge you to visit a local brewpub and try their beer sampler---I almost guarantee you'll like one of the beers they make.

No, Sake is a Japanese rice wine. There's only one Chinese beer that makes its way to our country, Tsingtao, which isn't particularly good.
