Best sci-fi - & why??

Donnie Darko is definitely a great movie. I purchased the Directors Cut on DVD which was fine, but regardless of the title, i always seem to prefer the theatrical versions over the extended ones.

My favourate Sci-Fi movie has to be 'Cube' Directed by Vincenzo Natali.[attachment=0:2pta33yk]cube.jpg[/attachment:2pta33yk]

I preferred the theatrical version as well. Directors cut went too long imo.

Given the amount of scifi movies that I've watched in life putting together a top 10 list is not easy.
Still, here is my shot at that list.
Note, some of the films might stretch the meaning of science fiction.

1, Gattica
2, The Day the Earth Stood Still(The Original Version)
3, Forbidden Planet
4, Gojira(Original Japanese Version of "Godzilla)
5, Them
6, Silent Running
7, Blade Runner(Director's Cut)
8, Flash Gordon(80's Version)
9, John Carpenter's "The Thing"
10, Battle Beyond the Stars

The order of the above films is subject to change due to my whims of the day.

OK I'll make a list in no particular order...

Star Wars (all 6 of them)
Star Trek (TNG)
Star Trek (DS9)
The Matrix
Equilibrium
The Planet Of The Apes
2001: A Space Odyssey
Heroes
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (TV, book & Movie)
Plan 10 from Outer Space (rare but worth looking for)
Quantum Leap
Sliders
Blade Runner
The 5th Element
I love Sci-Fi. :yes

Has no one seen "Dr. Who"? If you have Netflix, you can watch it; it's a BBC production.

Aah,

Star Trek(s)

Star Wars'

2001 and 2010

Terminator(s) including the TV series

Total Recall

Andromeda Strain

Planet of the Apes'

The Matrix(s)

The Running Man

Logan's Run

Close Encounters

ET

Alien

The Twilight Zone(tv)

Dune

Maximum Overdrive

Superman/Smallville

They Live ("...and I'm all out of gum.")lol

...and before I was saved, I would probably include Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Rocky Horror. :D

That's a good list Vic, but please tell me you are NOT including Tim Burton's version of Planet of the Apes.

matrix
V
star trek (except nemesis which is dreadful)
cube (all of them)
terminator
pitch black
12 monkeys

also liked but not the best

babylon 5 (I like good intelligent time travel and long story arcs)
prey
4400
the thing
the abyss

I have such a bad memory and know there are loads more I love.

BTW been driving me crazy years ago I saw a movie (must be in the 80's) and all I remember is at the end the white stuff that everyone eats, only source of food was recycled dead people (that was the plot twist at the end) and for the life I can't remember what the movie was called! :mad

sci-fi movies I hate! -
ET
close encounters of the 3rd kind
solaris
blade runner
2001 space odyssey is on the fence between hate (it is so long and drawn out and boring) but interesting at the same time and like

Thank you so much - I believe that is it (been driving me nuts for months now!) going to rent it again. I bow down to your memory of sci-fi - truly amazing :clap

so right I shouldn't hate (can I say dislike :D ) thanks for the admonishment, you are right. :thumb
I should be more careful in my choice of words. :boxing (to myself)

I am awaiting replies from people that love the movies I don't - look forward to a stimulating discussion on it :)
