BP Oil Spill Solution

Huge quantities of methane has entered the Gulf from the well, scientists say, suffocating marine life and creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives. :shame

Ok, so he was in control but all indications demonstrate he didn't have the first clue of what to do and I find it ironic he calls BP incompetent.
That's where I am not in agreement with most people. I do not think Obama is that stupid by any stretch of the imagination, I think he does understand how to get the hole plugged by using all the resources of those who offered to help. The question in my mind is why doesn't he want the hole plugged?

"The question in my mind is why doesn't he want the hole plugged?"

Oil is evil?

There's no love lost with Obama concerning big oil companies. He and his administration have vilified them and just about everyone else not under the thumb of government control. Oil is another player in our economy as is healthcare, the auto industry, banks...etc. Not long ago there was talk of nationalizing BP, another takeover, but I don't think Britain cared much for the idea.
Obama wants control of the energy industry. That's no secret. So as to your question:
Is Obama allowing the destruction of the Gulf to prove a point? That oil companies can't control their product? The Dems have been advocating that government can "fix" anyrhing and that advocacy as really become apparent since Obama gained office. So BP can't fix the leak soon enough, it will be eventually, but Obama may see an opportunity to "Fix the oil industry" through the same tactics seen with other key players/industries in our economy. It's almost like, "See that America? Look what the irresponsible big oil companies have and can do to our country." And of course it opens wide the door to put his "Cap and Trade" ideas back on track.
If he doesn't want the well capped and the mess cleaned up he's going about it in the right way.
But can people really believe his purpose is to destroy the gulf shores, the offshore drilling industry where job losses will be staggering for Louisiana to prove or make a point?

If it's true then he needs to be impeached before he can destroy anything else.
If it's not true then his inexperience in management has come to the surface to the grave determent of the Gulf states. He's makes great speeches but he can't walk the walk.

Thsi is a article from the Philadelphia, Daily News, about his first Oval Office Address, that I thought was interesting. I am back to my old Republican self, but I can't seem to put all the blame on Obama, I don't think that is fair. But anyway this article hit's it right on the head I think. My thing is, no matter what Obama says, it won't be enough, even when you get it right, you will still be criticized, I have learned you can not please a nation, no matter what you do. When you are under a microscope, well' you are under a microscope. Now even though I am back to having problems, with the Democratic administration, I can't put all the blame on Obama, and I don't think that it is fair to do so. I don't like a lot of Obama's stuff, but I can't blame him for this one. First of all we are in so to speak uncharted waters, stopping this thing is harder than you think at the depth of 5000 feet down. So no matter what Obama say's it won't be enough. If George Bush was still in office, no matter what George would have said it would not have been enough. And along with Obama's skin color, what ever he says will really, really, really not be enough. Well that was just my :twocents

Elmer Smith: Oil-damaged Gulf coast: There are no words, so Obama might as well keeps his cool

I'M NOT SURE what the president will say tonight. But I know it won't be enough.

It won't be hot enough for critics who want him to turn up the heat and bring his simmering fury to a rapid boil.

It won't be soon enough for those who say he should have stopped this oil leak long ago.

It won't be tough enough for angry Gulf Coast residents who want to see some blood in the water alongside the spreading oil slick that threatens to choke the life out of their economy for years to come.

They're looking for someone other than that cool-as-an-ocean-breeze guy who was elected president a year ago.

Oh, he'll come out swinging tonight. He will demand that BP set up a fund to make the victims whole. He may call for tougher federal regulations on offshore drilling or threaten to prosecute anyone whose negligence led to this disaster.

But don't expect closeups to show his nostrils flaring or his eyes narrowing to slits. Barack Obama is not that guy.

Cool is congenital. He was born a few degrees cooler than other babies in the maternity ward. It's part of his charm.

He was too cool to take the bait when former President Clinton tried to play him during the presidential campaign. His calm under fire kept his campaign from derailing when people tried to bury him under Rev. Jeremiah Wright's heated invective.

If Matt Lauer, of NBC's "Today" show, had goaded him into saying he was going to kick ass during the campaign, he'd be back in Chicago right now.

But when did cool get to be the wrong temperature? We used to want our president to remain calm under fire.

But after years of high-pitched reality-TV and talk-radio shows that serve up steaming heaps of raw emotion, it's hard to hear his modulated voice.

Yet, that's exactly what I want to hear. I want him to speak in measured tones and promise no more than he can deliver.

I want to hear more about remedies than retribution. He could toss everybody in BP's corporate suite under the bus tonight without capping the spill that is rapidly depleting his political capital.

He is as mired in this muck as one of those pitiful pelicans struggling to raise their flightless wings under the weight of this gooey sludge.

He hadn't even boarded Air Force One for his fourth trip to the Gulf region before Florida Republican Sen. George LeMieux had dismissed it as another photo-op. That may be political opportunism. But it resonates with a lot of frustrated citizens.

Every corrective step he can take has a consequence. His six-month moratorium on deep-water drilling could cripple the Gulf Coast economy in the near term almost as much as the spill.

Empty resort towns as far north as Myrtle Beach, S.C., portend a disastrous tourism season. Add to that the 78,264 square miles of federal fishing waters that are shut down and all three of the region's economic engines could sputter to a stop.

Experts can't even agree on the size of the spill. By their best estimates, about 40 million to 114 million gallons have bubbled up from the sea so far.

Even the good news is bad. BP claims its latest fix is capturing nearly 650,000 gallons a day. But that's more than the lowest previous estimates of how much was spilling.

Before he could demand a $20 billion fund from BP, British Prime Minister David Cameron had called to remind the president how much British pension funds are tied to BP's bottom line.

That's just today's problem. By the time the underwater plume spreads to European beaches, a whole new round of international issues will arise. Someday there will be a solution. BP may be able to dig a relief well deep enough to stem the leak and ease the pressure at the White House. Until then, the president may as well be his usual cool self. Because, for now, no matter what he says, it won't be enough.

Again, what the American people don't know is that 13 different countries offered to help clean the oil sludge from the Gulf. And, finally, what the American people don't know is that the Obama Administration turned all of them down. Obama had a crisis in the making and as Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel so aptly told the media during the housing and credit disasters that led to the piling on of over $3 trillion in new taxes on generations of Americans in February, 2009, you "...never let a crisis go to waste."

He turned down the help of other countries with the needed expertise.
And why has the media been so silent about this? Had that been Bush the media would have cut him to pieces... again.
So Obama gets a pass for this horrific decision?
Why?

Seriously though. Did Obama's ego get in the way in that he turned down help to contain the spill? I find it hard to believe he allowed it to happen for political reasons. Incompetence would be the better conclusion, error in judgment, etc but there's no sign of remorse for turning down those offers. Had it been Bush there would be an outcry for an investigation louder than those World Cup horns they banned.

i agree, i think that annoited one should have ask other countries as that effects alot other coutries ie mexico, cuba, jamaica, columbia, venezuala and a lot others.

Obama turning down some help, had to come from his top advisers, and supposed to be experts in the field, I don't think anyone with half of a brain would have done that unless their was intervention. But the finale say so is his.

Did Obama cause the oil spill?

I’ve been following the political discussions quite carefully and have to admit there’s almost an excess of proof concerning the president’s culpability (guilt) in the matter of the BP oil platform.

As I understand it the president skulked out of The White House one night, ostensibly to take the kids for a banana split, when he SPLIT for New Orleans in the presidential plane whose controls he had mastered from intensively watching the History Channel.

He brilliantly landed on the platform, disrobed and back flipped 5,000 feet down to the on-off controls of the offshore rig. A quick adjustment and suddenly it is wide open and spewing an estimated 5,000 barrels of oil an hour.

Within two hours he is back in the White House and reading bedtime stories to the children.

This is a true story.

Did Obama cause the potential New York City bombing?

I’ve been following the political discussions quite carefully and have to admit there’s almost an excess of proof concerning the president’s culpability (guilt) in the matter of the New York City parked-car-unsuccessful-bomb-plot.

As I understand it he and the first lady arranged to see The Lion King with their two daughters. Suddenly an urgent matter developed and he told the First Lady he would meet them at the theatre.

Unknown to others he bussed quickly to Connecticut, purchased the car in question, drove to New York City and parked on 45th street – yards from the theatre. He strolled inside in time for the First Act Curtain to rise and enjoyed the music thoroughly.

He subsequently wrote a note to Google complaining of the incompetence of their bomb-kit personnel. There are those who believe it was purchased on eBay but there are always people like that.

This is a true story.

Did Obama cause the recession?

I have been following the political discussions quite carefully and have to admit there’s almost an excess of proof concerning the president’s culpability (guilt) in the matter of the current recession.

Fact: There was no Recession during the administration of President George W. Bush.

Fact: The stock market was at an all-time high during much of the former president’s administration.

Fact: The country had not been disturbed by foreign intervention during the administration of the former president.

Conclusion: President (?) Barack Obama caused the recession.

Did Obama cause the influx of low-wage Mexican labor?

I have been following the political discussions quite carefully and have to admit there’s almost an excess of proof concerning the president’s culpability (guilt) in the matter of the rising dominance of illegal aliens in Arizona and other southern states.

Fact: Mexico is on our southern border.

Fact: Canada is on our northern border and close to Alaska.

Fact: The former governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, has an excess of hair. Obama was once an Illinois Senator.

Fact: The governor of Texas, Rick Perry, has an excess of hair.

Fact: If you combine the initial letters of the last names of Governor Perry and ex-Governor Blagojevich you arrive at “BPâ€.

Fact: Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona. Phoenix once rose, per well established legend, from the ashes.

Fact: President Obama still smokes on occasion.

Fact: There are illegal Mexicans residing in Arizona.

Fact: Barack Obama was illegally elected president of the United States. He is not a citizen of this country and may very well be from Mexico.

Conclusion: President Obama is here illegally and naturally sides with others who are here illegally.

This is a true story.

Conclusion: It is not difficult to discern the truth from the many fictions of politics. All it takes is an open mind and an ability to dive into murky waters.

Summary. George Washington threw a silver dollar across the Potomac River.

Fact: George Washington was the first president of the United States.

This is a true story.

PS. You can lead a horse to water.

So he didmn’t back-flip? For some nutty reason I couldn’t think of any dive (I’ve been in several in long forgotten years and now 83 so the ideating is a mite slow) and thus ended up with the bf.

Your blog is excellent and I shall read from now on.

Thanks very much.

By the way just finished George, Nicholas and Wilhelm , a wonderful look at run-up to World War I. You may not realize this but George V “turned the lights and heating off at Buckingham Palace and used the napkins more than once to save on washing…â€

The book is filled with pithy notes such as the above… the world in the hands of incredibly shallow monarchs. Could never happen again, of course.

i agree, i think that anointed one should have ask other countries as that effects a lot other countries ie mexico, cuba, jamaica, columbia, venezuala and a lot others.
An interesting point, Jason. Has anyone thought about why we aren't hearing more from the other countries whose economies and coastlines will be affected? Are they even speaking out? :confused

Federal Gov't Halts Sand Berm Dredging
NEW ORLEANS --
The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, who was one of the most vocal advocates of the dredging plan, has sent a letter to President Barack Obama, pleading for the work to continue.

Nungesser said the government has asked crews to move the dredging site two more miles farther off the coastline.

"Once again, our government resource agencies, which are intended to protect us, are now leaving us vulnerable to the destruction of our coastline and marshes by the impending oil," Nungesser wrote to Obama. "Furthermore, with the threat of hurricanes or tropical storms, we are being put at an increased risk for devastation to our area from the intrusion of oil.

Nungesser has asked for the dredging to continue for the next seven days, the amount of time it would take to move the dredging operations two miles and out resume work.

Work is scheduled to halt at midnight Wednesday.

The California dredge located off the Chandelier Islands has pumped more than 50,000 cubic yards of material daily to create a sand berm, according to Plaquemines Parish officials.

Nungesser's letter includes an emotional plea to the president.

"Please don't let them shut this dredge down," he wrote. "This requires your immediate attention!"

OK, I can understand the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department's concern but there won't be a habitat to protect if that oil is allowed to go where it pleases. And there's hurricane season coming up. If Obama wants a horrific mess down there I do believe he's going to get it.

In the meantime Obama is still trying to shutdown offshore oil operations. He's going to use an ecological disaster to create an economical catastrophe to support his push for a Cap and Trade agenda. That's the only explanation since he's given no explanation for his past/present decisions. I don't think I'd believe him anyway so maybe it's best he keeps his mouth shut I suppose.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for cap and trade, everything is calculated and politically motivated in this admin.

Seems that way.
So he shuts down oil operations and makes BP pay for the lost wages to keep that area's unemployment caused by Obama from impacting the unemployment numbers.
That's just plain wrong. I'm no BP fan by any stretch but making BP pay for consequences from his actions doesn't seem right to me.
