But also others will be silent and think about what they do that they don't want others to see.
It will have both a positive and negative affect.

Probably no one will look down on the person who "blabbed it" to the whole church(well, maybe some).

Well, who would be to blame here? To me the Talebearer (One who saw and told the whole church) would need corrected.

There is a couple leaving our church because they believe "GOD" told them to go to this ministry that believes in Angel orbs and gold dust. They just said they "Think" that is where God wants them to go and they have watched this ministry for a long time. God sent them to our Church though and they do learn faith, we just don't have angel orbs or Gold dust or any other light show so to speak. You sit, listen, get the word, fellowship and go home. No light show.

Well, I know for a fact God never told them to go to the land of Angel Orbs. So did my wife, we both know they are about to miss God in a big way based on emotionalism.

Another respected couple in the Church (The Husband) came up to me and mentioned this family was going to leave, what did I think about it????

I already know this guy wants to see if I actually do hear the Lord, I already know by the Spirit of God what He thinks about it and is against it. If I say they are missing it, then what I say confirms what he already believes he knows.

I said, "Praise God, I hope they have a safe trip."

This man looked at me as if I just did not get it as He thought I might have heard the Lord about it also.

However this man was in error also by asking me about it. I don't care what he thinks either as He should be believing for this couple to get it right, not going around talking about this family's big mistake they are about to make.

Good point Mike.

My pleasure to agree with BroMike! :yes

. Then one day, someone goes by your house and sees you smoke and tells the whole church.

Joh 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Joh 8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
Joh 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last:

Can vs. should
Can I vs. may I

My mom drilled the difference into me because to her, it mattered.
  • If the question centers on ability? Use "can I".
  • If, instead, it centers on permission(s), use "May I?"

So may I ask, "What about electronic cigarettes?" I've heard they vaporize vegetable oil or other oil based solutions that contain nicotine. "What about the patch?" Or "nicotine gum"?

Can I, as a Christian in good standing with God, smoke? I agree with what Nick has posted.

Well there is a thing called Christian liberty. I don't think anyone who smokes isn't a Christian, but it's certainly not a healthy thing to do with your body, and should be avoided. Our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit.

Having said that, there is a larger issue here. Something that a Preacher's Kid (PK) said about how such actions may be reported by others to the church. Seems to me that if a Christian is going to smoke, he/she would do well to give more respect to God, who sees all things, than to be found as one who gives respect to man, from whom a feeling of shame may cause one to hide. Why pretend? What is that pastor? Is he greater than God? Let smokers lite up on church grounds and be seen, is what I would say. But better to not smoke.

Also, there is a familiar theme here that others have noticed with another thread about another "Christian Image" problem or the appearance of one. Although there is some direct link between OT scripture regarding the exterior marking of one's body and the possible group affiliations with the unsaved, I see no mention of the inner markings that Tar (contained in various forms of tobacco) makes on the lungs. Is it good to be marked in hidden ways? No. I think not.

Not any more than it would be good to be marked with lung cancer or emphysema or the like.

A final note about the relationship and duties of the Stronger Brother toward the one with a Weaker Conscience: Paul does not commend or applaud the conscience of the weak, he does not condemn. He does implore us, who consider themselves to be stronger, to also consider our brothers. We would not want to participate in placing a stepping stone for them, so that they could follow our example and tread on the stone we left behind only to find it a stone of stumbling when it should have been a rock solid stone designed to support and not destroy or trip others.

Cordially, Sparrow (a man who needs prayerful support in this and in all things.)

If your heart condemn you?? God is greater. Not greater in condemnation but greater in all things. It is good to consider Him first and to invite Him to rule on the throne of our hearts, for indeed we are bought with a price high.

I don't think that God smiles when we do things that will likely have negative effect on our future happiness. He wants us to be happy and filled with Joy. He does not want us to volunteer for eventual heartache just to get along or be respected by our peers or to become more like James Bond, 007, who was my inspiration when I started smoking at the age of 13. I wanted to be like the super spy because he always got the girl...

"Credo in Deum, et puellarum" How is that for an example of faulty altar boy thinking? It translates from Latin as, "I believe in God... and girls."

Excellent Mike. :)

These last five posts have hit on something very important.

I'm usually of the attitude, "Stop navel gazing and singing mi, mi, mi" But when I start accusing others, I really need to look downward at 'ME'.

Interesting point; and I would have thought that tar on the lungs would do far more damage to one's health in the long run than a bit of tattoo ink on the skin.

Good consideration.

Navel gazing is never going to achieve much.

I had a coworker who summed up some people's attitudes: 'I love me, who do you love?"

Nicotine and tar can do a lot of damage, anyway.

Blessings.

Nicotine does far more damage. Nicotine does damage, period, without comparisons, even.

Blessings.

I hate to do this, but Nicotine isn't that bad for you. If you isolated the nicotine into a pill or drink, it's no worse in moderation to coffee or soda.

Don't pollute God's temple! Cigarette smoking is sin!

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

What about occasionally in moderation? (like eating cream cakes or hamburgers, etc.).

Can a Christian watch pornography in moderation and not sin? Cigarette smoking is a sin that needs deliverance. How do we get deliverance? Deliverance from any sin you will need the power of God.

The message of the Cross
<!-- CUSTOM MODERATED COLOUR --> <!-- / --> You can make the Cross of Christ ineffective. It is possible for Christians to void out the Cross. To make the Cross void is to cancel out the Cross benefits to you. If we are to fix any problem, we must not void out the Cross. Disconnection from the Cross is disconnection from God’s power. The reason why we are not experiencing God’s power in our lives is because we have disconnected ourselves from the Cross. We accepted Christ when we got saved. But as a Christian we are in a process of sanctification when the grace of God brings about the transformation of life and you are now being saved. The way you experience being saved, having already becoming saved, is by the power of God as it is attached to the Cross of Christ. When you cut off the Cross of Christ the power of the Gospel doesn’t reach your life or situation. Now that you have received salvation, God now wants you to experience His power which is connected to the Cross that saved you…not the crucifix of Christ. The crucifix is different from the Cross. The Cross is Jesus no longer hanging on it. The crucifix as you see in the Catholic Church is a Cross showing Jesus still hanging on it. Jesus is not still hanging on the Cross. The Cross that Jesus died on exist for one reason only. The only reason Jesus died was to take upon the sins of the world. He only died for sin(s). The Cross isn’t there for no other reason but sin. So to invoke the Cross on any other subject is to invoke it on an issue that it doesn’t exist for. “Behold the Lamb of God that has taken away the sins of the world”....Jesus died having become sin for us. The issue on the Cross is singular. To fix any problem that exist in your life; your heart, your family, your mind, your church, or whatever it is, you must understand the problem and then locate the sin behind it. Once you have identified the sin that is at the root of the problem, you can now invoke the problem. Many Christians and people want to solve the problem but don’t want to address the sin, and wonder why they can’t find the power. Because the power only ties to the message of the Cross, and the message of the Cross only exist to deal with one thing….sin. Many people try and change words by using my problems, my issues, my mistakes, my solutions…Jesus didn’t die for any of that. And there is no power because Jesus will not address that. He will only address sin! When we try fixing problems by bypassing the Cross you will in up looking like a fool (humantalk). The world thinks it can out think God. You void the Cross every time when you bring in human wisdom. Whenever you bring in the worlds view point you void out the Cross. Whenever God thoughts contradicts man’s thoughts, and you choose man’s thoughts over God thoughts, you cancel out the Cross. And when you void out the Cross you cancel out the power of God. Because the power of God is in the Cross which means you must be willing to deal with the sin. God is in the business of making the world look foolish because of their debates vs. addressing sin. Many times when God wants to express His power is usually through a means that may look foolish. God has worked this thing so only He will get the credit. The message of the Cross is the work of Jesus Christ in satisfying the issue of sin.

1. You must identify the problem what ever it is.
2. Then you identify the sin that is related to that problem; it could be your sin or someone else's sin opposed upon you.
3. Then address the sin God way that activates the Cross. Because you have done that you have activated the power of God. This is how God works it!

God will always honor His Son.

I always thought that what came out of your heart through your mouth was all sin except sexual immorality?
Am I wrong?
The Bible says "who are you to judge someone else's servant? He will stand because he is able to make him stand.

I agree about the wondrous Cross of Christ, indeed, in the life and spiritual health of the believer, indeed.

I wouldn't have linked cream cakes with pornography, though. This is why I asked whether occasionally smoking in moderation would be strictly regarded as sinful.

Blessings.

You either look at porn, or you don't look at porn. You either smoke, or you don't smoke.

In regard to smoking, what you can moderate is how it's going to affect your witness. But smoking, no matter how little or how much you do is still fundamentally a lack of self-control no matter how you slice it. Contrast that with, say, eating, or sexual activity, and you'll see what I'm driving at.

No, you are not wrong.

The ONLY sin there is that is a sin against the body is sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18 NIV).

I've been biting my tongue whenever someone makes a comment about smoking and the temple of God.

So if I eat a cream cake, should other Chrsitians report me to my local church? :chin

So if I smoke one cigarette (which I have no desire to do, BTW), should other Christians report me to my local church? :chin
