Don't pollute God's temple! Cigarette smoking is sin!

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

I always thought that what came out of your heart through your mouth was all sin except sexual immorality?
Am I wrong?
The Bible says "who are you to judge someone else's servant? He will stand because he is able to make him stand.
The next time your wife talks to you listen very closely. She is your helper who God will speak through to help you. This a covenant He has made to man in marriage.

So if I smoke one cigarette (which I have no desire to do, BTW), should other Christians report me to my local church? :chin
Not unless you are doing it in front of the church where everyone can see you. Otherwise, no. They should just walk away shaking their head in disgust and disappointment, lol! (I figure that's what you want to hear, lol.)

Farouk, listen carefully.
No smoking and no tatoos.
And especially no Lamborghinis.

I hate to do this, but Nicotine isn't that bad for you. If you isolated the nicotine into a pill or drink, it's no worse in moderation to coffee or soda.
If I had any soda in my house on any regular basis, I'd probably drink waaay too much of it. I probably drink it a little too much as it is.

No, you are not wrong.

The ONLY sin there is that is a sin against the body is sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18 NIV).

I've been biting my tongue whenever someone makes a comment about smoking and the temple of God.
You speak facts, but not truth.

16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 NIV

Thanks for the comment.

It's not really a question of what I might be wanting to hear.

My question was linked with another; I guess, wanting to look at least hypothetically at a progression of logic:

So if I eat a cream cake, should other Chrsitians report me to my local church? :chin

So if I smoke one cigarette (which I have no desire to do, BTW), should other Christians report me to my local church? :chin

I just wonder where all this kind of logic, and the mindset of those who might be tempted to use this kind of discourse on other Christians, may lead?

Blessings.

@questdriven :

So it's a question of you yourself needing as an adult to exercise your own self control, right? Moderation is important.

I wonder what this can imply for other areas: e.g., the need to exercise self control in eating various amounts of cream cakes, smoking occasional cigarettes (I don't advocate it)? getting some amount of bodyart (no, this isn't another tattoo thread); etc.? These are kind of open and related questions, I guess...

But it's not a question of other people's no-nos being imposed on you, I reckon.

Blessings.

My comparison thing was to back off the aspect that I had compared it to before.

Okay, and I started that too, I don't mind admitting. But in reply to your assertion, do you have any evidence whatsoever for this statement about nicotine and not about tobacco? I've not found it, but I would assume that there are risks for all drugs even and including coffee or soda. Sugar is my personal enemy. Don't get me started.

I would suggest a search of peer reviewed papers and studies on the harmful effects of nicotine when inhaled as vapor through an electronic 'cigarette' in moderate dosage, as a place to start your reply.

It's not "peer reviewed" but here's one: 10 Chemicals

Now add to that discussion where many assumptions are made, an amateur mixologist who purchases various nicotine "oils" comprised of 2 main base products known as PG and VG to make his/her own. Nobody has studied this. None that I can find. Have you?

Actually I think it was iLOVE that was making the statement that I'm assuming you're asking about.

We know from the whole context of the Corinthian letters that Paul is talking about those who would destroy the spiritual household of God through the false doctrine they were teaching the Corinthians, and which Paul was competing against. This has nothing to do with the destruction of the physical body. You can not be removed from the household of God--the 'building' of God--through the destruction of your physical body.

I just don't know why the plain words of Paul are not sufficient for you to see that "All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18 NIV)

What is it about "all other sins" that you do not agree with Paul about?

Nicotine does far more damage. Nicotine does damage, period, without comparisons, even.

Blessings.
Per your post #99, Your "comparison thing" was offered quoting another Member who had said something about sugars and/or coffee, stating that they were worse [than nicotine]. CORRECTION: Now that I've reviewed, that should read "no worse than" instead of "worse than".

Or am I actually wrong in what I have said? You tell me.

I believe it was you who had quoted this member as saying:

Other Member said:
It's no worse in moderation to coffee or soda.

Thanks; I'm finding the he said/she said increasingly hard to follow...

You're welcome. I will take that as a general retraction regarding your statements and allegations about Nicotine in moderate dosages through vapor inhale, patches and/or gum as well as your allegation(s) of comparison between these less harmful delivery methods of nicotine and the normal US consumption of sugars via soda and/or caffeinated coffee through a variety of sources and consumption methods, that is, unless and until I hear otherwise from you.

Cordially,
Sparrow

TW. I don't I was particularly saying what you said I was saying. I think I was confused.

You are very welcome to review the links that I've provided. Just click on the little blue double arrow " >> " next to your name. They are hyperlinks that take you directly to the quote. I stand ready to be corrected if need be. Another option available is to click the little triangle "REPORT" button at the bottom left of each post to ask the aid of other Staff members in conducting the research. Pretty sure they won't mind even in the slightest. In point of fact, upon your PM request to me, I will click the Report and request it, as a personal favor.

Oh, and one more thing? Back to topic, please. Because misrepresentations are against the ToS, I take them seriously, just as you would have me do.

Cordially,

I've been reviewing again and I see that I've made a chapter of mistakes and typos.

I've made things unnecessarily complicated and my confusion led me to more misunderstanding. Scolling back to about #94, #95, #96, 97#, the backing off that I think I referred to was in relation to the other mod that said a comparison with skin art, etc was off topic. Then, in so doing, I must have gotten confused and this led to more confusion on my part.

My apologies.

Re. cigarettes, I don't advocate them; they're not healthy.

Blessings.

Like I say, we Christians really should be showing ALL the fruit of the Spirit, including self-control.

And speaking from the perspective of the believer himself, if you want to destroy your joy in the Lord don't take care of your body. Your joy and strength will be replaced with pessimism and weakness. Christ did not die to give us that life. Most of us had that already.

I agree with what you are saying. I was only pointing out that some Christians will just demonize one bad practice or activity, and not another that is equally as bad.

I understand perfectly.

It is interesting to note, though, that there's no such thing as moderation in smoking like there is in eating food. You are either a smoker, or you are not a smoker.

Could you elaborate a little more on this Jethro? I'm not quite sure I am following you completely.

Thanks.
