WONDERFUL CONVERSION OF MARY LONES

We were requested to visit a young woman, nearly gone with consumption, who resisted every effort that was made to bring her to Christ. We went, trusting in the Lord for help. She received us respectfully, but seemed quite careless about her soul. The Spirit of the Lord soon touched her heart, and she became distressed on account of her sins; at one time while praying with her she began to plead in real earnest for herself and continued in prayer until she could say, "I am the Lord's and He is mine." A sweet peace settled down on her soul and soon after she received the clear witness that her sins were forgiven. Although she was very weak and could hardly speak above a whisper, yet, when the Lord set the seal of Bis Spirit to the work wrought in her soul, her shouts of victory could be heard through the entire building.

She soon began to yearn for entire sanctification, and her soul was greatly drawn out in prayer for the blessing. At one time we read to her the fourth chapter of Ist John and encouraged her to look to be made perfect in love, to believe for it and expect it every moment until it was given. "Oh!" said she, "that is just what I need, and I am praying for it all the while" - although she did not know the name of the blessing she was seeking. She had many conflicts with the powers of darkness before she obtained this victory. At length the all-cleansing touch was given. It was about five o'clock one Sabbath evening a few weeks before her death. Her soul had been much drawn out in prayer all day for purity of heart. She said the Spirit fell on her and seemed to go through both soul and body. She had been confined to her bed and was so weak we thought she would never again stand on her feet; but when she received the blessing she not only had the use of her voice, but walked the floor back and forth, shouting aloud, "Glory to God." We were told that she had naturally a fiery disposition, but after this baptism she was all patience, resignation, love and praise. Her sufferings were very great toward the last, but not a murmur or complaint was ever heard. Neither tongue nor pen can describe some of the scenes witnessed in that little room. From the time that she received the blessing of perfect love, until her death, her sky was unclouded, her conversation in heaven, and her experience, although a young convert, was that of a mature Christian. Her light on the things of God and the state of deceived professors of religion was wonderful. She seemed to have an unclouded view of her heavenly inheritance and longed to depart and be with Christ. On one occasion, when we were singing -

Filled with delight, my raptured soul Would here no longer stay, Though Jordan's waves around me roll, Fearless, I launch away -

she raised her hand in triumph and repeated the word, "fearless, fearless," while glory unspeakable beamed from her countenance. At times, when talking or singing of her heavenly home, she appeared more like an inhabitant of heaven than of earth. She was truly the most beautiful, angelic-looking being we ever saw. She died in triumph; was conscious to the last, and whispered, "I walk through the valley in peace;" then pointing to each one that stood around her bed, she raised her hand, as if to say, "Meet me in Heaven." She then folded her hands on her breast, looked up, smiled, and was gone.

Can science explain that? No, and it doesn't propose to. That's not what science is for. If there was some evidence that she was delusional, that could be evaluated, of course, but it doesn't seem to have been the case here.

The Church, when considering the necessity of an exorcism, first carefully determines whether or not the problem is merely mental illness. Only after ruling that out, does it proceed.

Which is the way it should be.

Well science can't explain how God spoke everything into existence either.

Agreed. Science doesn't explain such things. Well, perhaps psychology can. One of the stages of grief is "barganing". Another is "acceptance". A lot can happen in the mind when it is faced with a dire life experience. And when a person knows they are on the edge of their life, they are open to many ideas and willing to accept a lot of inputs.

It is a well spoken story. If a true event, it sounds like she had a wonderful way of slipping into death.

As for how "science can't explain how god spoke everything into existance [roughly 6,000 years ago, within a period of 6 days]", since science can only test what is observable, then of course it can't explain that "mechanism". What it CAN do is search for evidence from the natural world/universe.

Therefore, turnorburn, can you explain why the evidence collected [over the many years of testing] points away from a 6 day creation ~6,000 years ago?

You aren't Christians are you.. seems the ungodly are coming out of their closets.

You aren't Christians are you.

Boy, did you get a wrong number. Yep. About as orthodox a Trinitarian Christian as it's possible to be.

I've been out of the "closet" for some time now. However, how about taking the spotlight off of me and turn it to the question I asked. :shrug

Your asking the wrong person

Can science explain this?

"I AM DYING AND GOING TO HELL."

A fashionable lady attended revival meetings at the Morgan Street Church, Chicago. Deep conviction settled on her soul She wept and said she would like to find peace, but was not ready to give up the pleasures of the world. To drown her convictions, she absented herself from the house of God. Time hurried on and soon she was on her death bed. Realizing her condition, she sent for a friend who had attended the meetings with her and who had listened to the spiritual pleadings and found the joy of pardoning love. This friend hurried to the bedside of the dying one. As she entered the room the dying woman looked at her with eyes of terror, and grasping her hand she exclaimed, "Oh, stay with me till I am gone! I am dying and going to hell! Tell Bro. C____ (the minister) to preach hell as he has never preached it before, for I am going to hell!" Then, pointing to the wardrobe, she said, "Go there and you will see what has ruined my soul." She opened the door and saw the rich, fashionable clothing and turned again to the side of the dying woman, who raised herself up and sang the hymn she had so often heard at the meeting:

"Parting to meet again at the Judgment,
Parting to meet no more here below;
Oh, how sad the thought to thee,
Traveler to eternity,
Parting to meet again at the Judgment."

As the last word fell from her lips she fell back on the pillow and her soul passed into eternity to meet the God whose mercy she had trifled with and turned away for the gaudy toys of this earth.

Dear reader, take warning from this sad death. Turn away from the vanities of earth and give God your heart and life's service, and eternal happiness shall be yours. - Pentecost Herald.

How foolish a person to not simply ask God for forgiveness. It would have been readily forgiven, and her eternal salvation accomplished.

I'm not sure why you're posting these anecdotal accounts in this part of the forum. What exactly do you expect 'science' to 'explain'? The human mind reacts to stress in many different ways. Death-bed conversions or repentances are not evidence of anything other than this.

turnorburn. i was wondering why you posted that.

science is the study of things that are observable in the natural world not the supernatural.

you are getting worked up because of the idea of the toe and the bbt that you disagree with(as i do) that point agaisnt the bible as we interpret it. however even creationists dont try to study God with telescope they take in if they are scientists(some are) and then make conclusions based on the yec world view.

if you are really interested on what creationists do say. i can send a link to a good site on that. you might find out that creationism teaches rapid and i mean more rapid then i would thought evolution after the flood.

Can science explain why when God put everything we needed for our health herbs fruits nuts vegetables and all of the etc. Then science proceeded to corrupt all of it.. the cure for cancer is right under our noses they know it we should know it. Science helped the pharmaceuticals to establish cancer institutions where the watch word is $$$$

G-Day mate I posted it for the unsaved science can't explain salvation maybe if they were able you'd be saved.

... the cure for cancer is right under our noses....
Now, how can you say that? I'm lost as to how someone could think such a thing, but I am willing to listen.

What, pray tell, is the cure for cancer you speak of?

I read this book in 1972 so its not like its something new.

Jethro Kloss- Pioneer in Natural Herbal Remedies

This publication is one of many, the doctors know they read the same things we read. One day i ran this by a member at a site called wrong diagnosis he said he didn't trust anything natural. A podiatrist shared a cure for a condition i had with my feet it wasn't a drug it was and is an herb "Turmeric" So i checked it out you can too.

20 Health Benefits of Turmeric

A doctor in our neighborhood had the FDA raid his business because of his tips, he disappeared.

Btw that Podiatrist I've been told is retired.. hmmmm

without getting into conspiracies. i dont doubt that somewhere in nature their might be a cure but to say that docs and pharmacies dont want a cure isnt truthful. sure pharma does push meds, but does that mean all companies in that business do or that the fda is bad if it has found that claims are false.

what if said apple killed that patient quicker despite claims to heal.

Many things in nature are effective remedies. The Pacific Yew, for example, yielded a drug that is useful in some sorts of cancers. But it's not a cure.

In fact, until the advent of modern pharmaceuticals, most cancers were fatal. Now, with aggressive medical treatment and drugs, most of them are curable.

Not bad.

you mean put in remission, theres no cure for melanoma or lymaohatic cancer or kidney cancer., the later two took a friend of mine and he had chemo three times and told me that the doc told him that it could spread and kill him, and it did.

Pretty strong statement don't you think "no cure" did science tell you that I know God didn't. No matter this thread is dead.. I'll leave you guys to hash it out.. if you want to be productive live for God and prove to Him Jesus didn't come here in vain.. Go to the lost.

"O MARTHA, MARTHA, YOU HAVE SEALED MY EVERLASTING DAMNATION!"

Rev. Thomas Graham, the noted revivalist preacher of the Erie Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, relates the following sad experience:

A man who lived in Westmoreland county, Pa., had strong religious feelings and had commenced a religious life. About this time he married a woman who was decidedly irreligious and who opposed him. She forced him to omit family worship; she forced him from his closet and followed him with her opposition until he finally, discouraged, gave it up. The Spirit of God left him.

He told Rev. Mr. Potter, a Presbyterian minister that he was lost forever and that he knew the very time and place the Spirit took its final departure; that he was going to hell but cared nothing about it. He lived some ten years after this and then died in the most awful agonies. He asked his wife to give him a glass of water for he would obtain none where he was going. He drank it greedily; then, looking his wife in the face, exclaimed, "O Martha, Martha, you have sealed my everlasting damnation!" and died.
