Can we talk about anger?

Good thing yall never met Jesus.

(Mark 3:5) "And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts,...."

My my, yall would have given Him the 'you must love your neighbor' speech. Yall would have assured Him that the love of God was not in Him.

What absolute silliness yall present.

It's a different story when it's read in context: " After looking around at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored." There certainly is a place for divine anger; the Old Testament is filled with God's anger towards His people and Jesus was regularly angry at the falsely-believing Pharisees and Sadducees. What absolute silliness you present by n ot knowing or understanding Scripture.

The thread is about a personal struggle with anger not whether anger is a valid emotion.

I am not convinced the Bible is enough to help us with anger management though. Or anger policy. I turn to guys like Albert Ellis at the moment, a psychologist who was indirectly responsible for the creation of CBT in counselling.

The Bible is enough for many to help with anger management. Turning to secular help is turning away from God.

What? Because I found a way to not have to shoot anyone? You'll grow up eventually.

Because you use too much thinking as to why I shouldn't use this gun. Hesitation. Your going to get yourself killed or someone else who needs you to use it when you won't. If you don't want to use it, put it away.

If you want to find a way to not shoot someone, don't carry.

Jesus didn't struggle with anger. Where in the world did you get that?

Jesus had no problem being angry. You and others on this forum have a problem with Him being angry.

The silliness is yours.

Psychology hadn't been invented for another 2000 years. As much as I respect the peace we can get from reading the Bible, I don't accept the Bible has any detailed anger management advice to help us.

I have anger issues. It started in a childhood when I got angry at the bullies who teased me. Then I got angry at my parents for neglecting me. Now I get angry because so many people are only interested in money. It took the Holy Spirit to calm me down, but I am not yet cured.

Here is the article I wrote about Anger and Christianity.

Anger: Cleansing the Temple

Of course Jesus got angry at least once in the temple. He lost his temper too. What do you think was going on in the temple when he turned the tables over. Anger is just one of many emotions. There should not be too much nor too little as I explain in my article. Remember, we were made in His image.

I would only say, Jesus did not lose His temper. He displayed His temper.

These are modern diagnoses; the Bible is not a medical textbook.
oh wait .

while the bible doesn't address much ,yet where and how was someone like my step daughter and sister and aunt treated then?

my,youngest sister born unable to talk much .my aunt is functional to,a degree .my step daughter is yet to be .the bible isn't a medical book, funny ptsd isn't a psychosis.but it does have anger issue .

God does my zap .makes forget hurts .I,have a friend who doesn't understand ptsd at all ,he says things like you posted and claims that God heals it .while that does happen ,but even a man I know who takes pills for his can't deny that .I heard he served and in seconds i could tell he had it .

look ,I,get the other view ,bit until God either takes me home or cures it .I have to work on my anger issues.and nightmares etc. some are blessed they don't have it bad or at all others not so much .

no psychological counselor who is worth something will tell me not to seek church councilimg.the best suicide prevention is the church family .isolation is not good .

ptsd suppprt deals a lot with with anger management.the current counselor locally unafillated with the va is a pastor!

I can't not carry. They've been a part of my life since about 6 or 7 years old. It's what I do. shoot, load ammo, go hunting, and of course carry for defense of myself or others. The desire for weaponry has been put into my heart from a young age. Doesn't scripture say that the Lord put our desires of our heart into us? So I'm not putting my sword down.

Just because I don't want to have to shoot anyone doesn't mean I wouldn't if the situation called for it. This is not hesitation Brother, this is simple foresight. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

You seem to have a warriors perspective and this is ok, for the Lord put basic desires into our hearts. But remember Brother, this is a spiritual war that we are in here. You have to think higher than the flesh.

That's all fine. Then don't carry. You're always going to talk yourself out of it. You're going to get yourself killed, or some one who is depending on you using your gun, to get killed. Because you are going to hesitate.

You have to know now what you will do. You don't wait till the moment to decide what you will do. And you don't know.

Nobody has ever been killed or hurt on my watch. You think that 35 years of carrying and I only have one story? What do you want to hear about? The attempted strong arm robbery of me & my (then) pregnant wife? The dog attack? An attempted home invasion at my house? You want to hear shots fired incidents or no shots fired?

And all of that without ever shooting anyone or becoming a victim of crime. That's a blessing and not a shortcoming my friend. Hopefully the impetuousness of youth will soon fade from you and you will learn that, discretion really is the better part of valor.

I'd be happy to tell you more stories if you want to hear them. How are you going to tell me that I'd get someone killed? How long have you carried? How many hours at the range or in training have you shot? (video games don't count man).

No I can't picture Jesus losing his cool. I suspect it was calculated. But depends how human we want Jesus depicted.
Personally I like the fact that Christ got angry. When I read this passage it took away my shame for my own anger at injustice in the world. I don't see him having this one episode of anger as a problem. Christ did not become one with God until he returned to Heaven. While on earth ? he had a human body and a human personality. He just had more compassion than most humans. And he also had the power to heal which was divine. But then what do I know.
