Can you survive without technology

I grew up without ac but as we age, I know from my asthma issues and its medically documented that ac is needed. I can work without it but the fact that ac systems help to breathe easier. the flilters remove the pollen etc.

Yeah, breathing issues, as I see it anyway are due to the humidity taking up space in the air, it displaces the oxygen to less per sq ". I would imagine asthma would be harder to live with down here.

We managed to survive it, but I recall my Mom checking up on us in those nights that never dropped below 90 and humidity so bad the bed was wet, to see if we were still alive. I've worked in it and one does get used to it but now, I'm a real lightweight when it comes to dealing with it.

I'm so out of shape and unacclimated now, I've had severe to mild heatstroke a few times over the past few years whereas I never in my life had it before that. The heat without the humidity is nothing to me, a walk in the park. It really is the humidity that's the problem here, and it can be deadly. I can do without electricity, no problem for quite awhile and even like it a little but, I had to buy a generator just to insure I had AC should a hurricane take out the power.

i have exercise induced asthma. allergens can trigger attacks. one form of asthma can shift to the other types. mine has.

It seems that all forms of life depend on technology. But really, I think we can survive without technology --- I mean, zero percent technology.

I remember those days when we wrote letters: pen and paper! We are busier today with our cellphones than with our fellow human beings.

I think we can survive without technology: telecom, tvs, electricity, cars etc...and We would live longer.

Perhaps the only people that may not are the ones who are wired to one machine or the other in the hospital.

Let's go back to farming. Lets go hunt squirrels and antelopes, let's go plant some corn and watch them grow into maizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzze :biggrin

Well, I might survive longer, but without a way to make coffee quickly, others around me may not.

I somehow got the idea you were a heavy coffee drinker...is that a fact?
no. I don't drink much coffee. I believe that my asthma was due to my time in Afghanistan. that is the first place I had an attack. I never had it before.

No you don't come off as a heavy coffee drinker, I was wondering if Mike was. I almost commented on that the other day with him.

I'm down to 2 cups a day or 2 small mugs (a little more than 2 actual cups

Coffee is a drug, but I'll be a killjoy with that on another day with my own post. :)

I used to drink it, well if the cup went empty, I'd fill it, all day long. 7-10 mugs a day? When I quite smoking,
I thought I wouldn't be able to drink coffee and not smoke but, I seem to be managing quite well.

sarcasm. we aren't Mormons.

From what I understand, European Christians tend to think caffeine is a sin, but a small glass of wine with dinner is okay. American Christians tend to think caffeine is okay, but alcohol is a sin. Different cultures.

Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. Romans 14:1-2 NIV

Wine has been ok'd, in the bible, at least as I understand it, just not too much of it. I've heard people even here in the US swear it's a sin but, my personal opinion on why that is, is these folks have a loved one or have seen a fair share of alcoholism cause problems for themselves or others around them so they choose to believe that. It's real clear to me it is no sin. I don't drink, but I used to...I just don't like it anymore.

I like my coffee as much as the next person but I don't think anyone will deny it's a potion, if there ever was one.

I have been living with very limited technology for the last couple of weeks while I am in Brazil visiting my in laws. There is no A/C, dishwasher, a few washing machines, but clothes are hang dried. When taking a shower the water trickles out and since the water is heated with an electric heater, the lights in the house dim when the shower is turned on. The TV has about 3 main channels that work and the shows are not worth watching. The plumbing is not fit to handle toilet paper so all toilet paper has to be put in a little trash can next to the toilet. All of this may sound difficult to get used to but I believe that we are better off living with less technology. We barely spend anytime indoors because there is nothing to do!

As for the coffee...we are surrounded by it on my in laws farm. Little coffee stands instead of water fountains or water coolers are everywhere in Brasil. Like the grocery store, bank, post office, shops, etc... and it's free.

It is nice to slow down the pace of everyday life for a while and be thankful for the technology that is really worth having.
