Catholicism and Apostolic Succession

From one Catholic to another! :smt056

Seriously - is this necessary?!?

One could say the same of you and ThreeinOne:

From one Protestant to another! :smt056

But does that really further the discussion or civility?

I am not sure what Mary has to do with apostolic succession.....

However, clearly scripture alludes to apostolic succession ......

In Matthew's Gospel the declaration of Jesus building a Church upon Peter mirrors Isaiah. The parallel between the Church and the Davidic Kingdom are illustrated in the giving of the keys, and with those keys the power to open [loose] and shut [bind] the gates. In Isaiah the Office of Prime Minister has the delegated powers of the King to open and shut.....this prime minister serves at the behest of the King [the King gives him is authority and can remove him of that authority if it is abused]. The Prie Minister is even called by the people "Abba"

The Apostles [in total] are given a similar authority to forgive and bind sins......

Then in Acts Peter rises and quotes an OT passage about letting "another his Office take" and the apostles [the leadership of the church] gathered elect Banabas as the successor of Judas.

So there are apostolic offices that become filled upon vacancy.....

Yes, there is supposed to be apostolic succession in the Christian Church as established by Jesus, practiced by the earliest Christians and testified to by scripture.....
