Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

All great games. Chrono Trigger is one of the best of all time. I sold all my Magic cards but I used to play regularly. Hey in all fairness though, Trigger was totally a Jap game. Lol. You mention stupid things being said, man I've been playing the newest DBZ game and its full of that. Really enjoying the gameplay though.

I haven't played the 2 sequel yet. It was a good game!

Playing video games since 1976, my first system was a Magnovox and had like 15 games with a selector switch. I played the FF games on Nintendon't and they were not bad because there was no voice emulation back in the day and the graphics where big blocks stuck together in a sprite.

I do remember the hours I played Chrono Trigger, being much younger the story seemed good while being a Hard core D&D fan.

I did grab the newer FF and some Jap games last year thinking they would be great adventures but after several had dialog "Let's go see if ming is OK, she could be hungry" and the fact you have to take 10 min after each battle to skip through all the text I just could not do it. Now that graphics are far better, all the characters look like kids in rainbow trench coats saying stupid and cheesy things. Just can't do it, I tried.

As for Japanese Games being spiritual................ I am not sure what the even means, the Word of God is Truth and Spirit, everything else is just devils or make believe. Japanese games are about as spiritual as an egg sandwich and no more confused than the fortune teller down the street. You certainly don't play video games because of any spiritual aspect.

I will play Magic the Gather on computer, I stopped collecting boxes of cards in the 90's as I realized there was no point in it.

Forge Magic the Gathering will allow you to play almost every card made against a Computer AI and make any deck you want. I have it on my computer and Android.

Endless Legend that just came out is pretty awesome, and I like Homm V, VI. I grabbed Skyrim to see how my new (Wife's) computer run it and it looks impressive.

For the most part now days It's a quick game of Farm Frenzy, and off to do real life things or get back in scriptures.

Be blessed.

Last Jap game I played was Chrono trigger. Not a fan of jap games, the art or the trillion hp damage you do with countless and meaningless spells. Also the fact lots of them say something stupid before attacking, Shoryuken Ken.
Old School Dungeon and Dragon here, Skyrim, Neverwinter Nights, Magic the Gathering.

Wife Likes the Hobbit,
Back a long time ago, I defeated Chrono Trigger for the SNES. I liked it, but it was no FF2 or 3.

And I just watched Hobbit 3 yesterday. Not a great ending, but leading up to it was good.

I have not watched it, won't get around to watching it unless the wife plays it in the background.

is Christian Fantasy even a term though? Just thinking about it today. Let me present Christ to you in a Make believe way, just does not sound right.

Tolkien was Catholic, which already your starting out with bad doctrine. I don't also see any Hobbits in Scriptures.

C.S Lewis prayed for the dead, believed in Purgatory and did not believe in the complete inerrancy of the bible. What He believed is not all that important though. Do we take his fiction of a Lion, Witch, and a Wardrobe and say there is great Christian revelation here with make believe mixed with pagan ideas?

In prison I read a lot of Star Trek and Dungeon and Dragon novels. Study the Word 9 hours a day, then prayer time and praying for tons of folks wanting prayer and answers. The pull on me was constant, so at times I just wanted to be someplace else. Like aboard the Starship Enterprise.

I have never been able to mix scripture with fantasy. Never made the connection. Playing Magic the Gather on my tablet last night as the computer was destroying me, it never crossed my mind that it is more than just a game of numbers. Cheating numbers at that.

Just some things I was thinking about.

Blessings.

I used to read this allegory series called The Knights of Arrethrae by Chuck Black. I loved allegory, it made me think about the deeper meanings and symbolism and renewed my interest in Scripture. I definitely benefitted from it, it was during these times that I began to get closer to God.

A few years ago I was a huge Star Wars fan, and I found a way to kinda allegorize it. That had the same affect on me, really. And as I got closer to God, I still enjoyed Star Wars, but I was like "it's cool, just nothing compared to God".

Though, these days if I were to attempt to allegorize my favorite series or stories, it'd probably just be an excuse to spend more time pouring over them, as if I don't spend enough doing so already. I'm in a different place now than I was a few years ago.

I know God uses things of the World to get us focused back on His things.

I know having a terminal disease can get someone more interested in scriptures. (Least it should)

As you said though, your in a different place and God does not need use so much worldly stuff to get you to see the importance of the Word. Someone should not wait until things go horrible until they get interested in scripture either.

So then, is Fantasy a actual tool, or is God just full of mercy and uses what has grabbed our attention most?

The Lord showed me something in the Movie Final Destination. The Movie does a great job on how some in the World view death and karma. I am thinking I could have finally understood it without watching the Movie though.

Anyway.

I would say Christian fantasy CAN be a term...it always depends on who defines it.
That's why in The Curse of the Rodain and The Rebellion of the Rodain I purposely stay away from glorifying magic or witchcraft and glorify God instead. I try to use what is in the Bible in a creative way vs using what the devil does. The result is an entertaining and satisfying story that challenges the reader in some areas of their walk and that I would feel comfortable showing the Lord (as if He were to come read the books if He did not know about them).

(One positive with LOTR is that whIle Gandalf is named a wizard he us actually an angel, just as Sauron is a demon....and I watched those movies shortly after being saved and found the Lord showing me a lot of spiritual parallels and lessons to be acted on, though short of perhaps Frodo being a type of Christ to destroy sin by destroying the Ring, there is no overt Christian allegory there).

I am lost there Brother. Frodo a type of Christ? That takes a whole lot of imagination.

Kind of like saying God Said no Pork, but now nothing is to be refused. So, the BBQ sauce is a type of Blood from Jesus that covers the pork and makes it OK to eat. Am I catching on to this?

most modern worship songs are as bad. I will love you, I will never stop loving you. uhm yeah NOT

I can't really get into any type of worship. Ex heavy metal guy here and it's just not heavy enough. I wish I could. I don't like songs full of unbelief. I also don't care for songs that add a trinity spin to them.

"Went travel'in for Jesus, lost all that I had............ ohhhhhhhh."

Blessings Jason.

Oh, I just meant that one act of destroying the Ring is sort of like Jesus destroying sin. And that was all.

Ok Brother. I read the Hobbit trilogy (Think Book) Also saw the movie. Both were OK. It never dawned on me to connect scripture to any of it. In the Movie Biblo just happened to find the ring by luck in the marsh. Gollum had lost it fighting with some imp or something. Not sure if Gollum would have found the ring again on his own, but He had it for years without the ring causing any issues but to himself.

Scripture does not have any inanimate object containing power but bones, and cloth. Both the anointing of God left on those objects. The devil can't possess objects or give them power. As long as you enjoyed the movie and book, then that is great. They were not bad.

blessings and 1 Million sold both books.

Amen! COTR & ROTR atop the NY Times bestseller list in fiction by the favor of God.

Wife and I believe that!!!! Bestseller.

now if the wife can find ROTR on Amazon, you can add 1 more to that Million. We both are confessing and believing for you. Wife believes the Lord drop his first big project for our lives. Even includes believing for a building and bible study and store.

If you write more books, we can dedicate a shelf to you or something. Wife wants a "Faith" type book store, no unbelief.

1 Million +

Since you like allegory, see Brother Mike's post just above this one.
