I can see the apparent stop on the monitor, whether of not I as an untrained observer of the night sky would catch this is questionable. I'm proficient at finding the Big Dipper.
However, the Magi were trained observers of the night sky, and they traveled from a land based location east of Jerusalem noticing something extremely unique about this star which would cause them to travel to the Temple Gate and ask King Herod to see his newborn baby.
And according to Scripture, the star stopped its motion over Bethlehem.
