When I was in Teen Challenge (AKA "Jesus Camp"), they only let us read Christian books. Probably a good idea. My favorite was a C.S. Lewis thought-of-the day book. I'd flip back and forth to see what this man had to say.
One thing I remembered, but didn't really think about until now, was this little nugget of wisdom, that sinners are all alike, but Christians are as unique as snowflakes. I think this goes along with finding your true identity in your Savior, not in the world or, these days, in self-help or New Age stuff.
I believe C.S. Lewis is right on the money. The more I look over my own experiences in the world, as a sinner, and now as a Christian, the more I see that my true self didn't evolve until I'd made at least some effort to apply Christian morality.
Has this been true for you? How has Christ and dedication to God helped you become a more authentic version of you?
I thought I'd post this because one thing that non-believers say sometimes about Christians is that we're brain washed and all Christians are XYZ, when nothing could be further from from the truth. In an era when everybody is being taught that you have to be "unique" and "different," but most people are becoming increasingly similar, I've personally found Christianity to be a good way to at once change who I am (for the better) while developing a more distinct (not "unique," not "special"--distinct) personality and character.
