Christmas Trees' And Lights

Lewis

Member
Who on this board' puts Christmas lights up outside the house and puts up a Christmas tree. I asked this last year, but this another year. Yeah' yeah I know about the Christmas tree. But I like looking at them. And I am going to get a live tree in about 2 weeks or so. I do it every year.
But if you don't do this could you share your reason ?

We put up a tree every year and hang lights outside. Before I was saved we put up a tree every year and hung lights outside. It's fun, looks cool and gives me a reason to make a mess of the place. :-D

My tradition is to put up the tree on Thanksgiving evening and take it down New Year's Day. I have done it this way since I was about 2yrs old hehe.. Well as long as I remember (you get the point). I hang lights up the weekend of Thanksgiving.

We put up the Christmas tree with lights, and lights on the house. My wife puts together many, many inside decorations to include her lit up church houses, nativity scenes, Christmas cards, and memorabilia from over the years with our children.

pUTTING up trees and lights is heresy, It is pagan idle worship, its a sin...

Just kidding, ''I love Christmas''
Today I say the nativity movie and what a blessings it was to my heart, I cried about 1/3 of the movie.......The birth of ''My Jesus''
On a side note, I believe his Birthday is really late sept or eaRLY oCT.....
sORRY for tjhe type'os, I am trired....
Good night...:)

Good morning ''all''
Last year for the first time, we had a fake Christmas tree...and my kids went balistic...My wife had purchased the tree the year before with lights and ornamnets and all for $10.00...:) Out here in Cali the average cost of a real tree is about 60-80 bucks with many in the 150-200 range atleast where I live...Anyway, this fake tree was perfect. I purchased this ''smell like a pine'' spray for our fake tree but all my kids did was complain....This year all my kids chipped in are getting our tree this year :-D , I laugh because I can't believe what a big deal this fake tree turned into..It made me laugh.....

What do you guys think of fake Christmas trees?

I personally prefer a real tree with the piny smell but my husband prefers a fake tree in which no pine needles get stuck in the carpet. We got a fake tree that already has the lights on it. We don't put it up very soon because our cats love it too, and they love to play with it. :-D
(you had me going, too, Jg. I was a bit worried then relieved)

My brother in law, his house caught on fire from a real tree. I was really young when this happend, so ever sense then we always had a fake tree. I have a 7ft Blue Spruce tree. Every year I am asked if it is real. I bought this one because it looks so real. It's flame retardent, and that was a big deal in my household growing up.

Hi Lewis,

No Tree, no lights. We observe the birth of Christ in October, but it is a small tradition. We believe He was born to die, and are blessed to honor Him during this time apart from the commercial/pagan atmosphere of December 25. We don't judge others for honoring Him at that time, or redeeming the day, but we have opted not to.

For part of our studies this year we are going to be studying all the feasts, and putting together celebrations...with a Christian focus, however. Some Jewish believers are going to help us with this, so that the children can understand how all of them pointed to Christ, and how He has fulfilled them.

We are trying to create traditions, and celebrations, that are pictures of Truth to our children...so Chanukah is the next one. Jesus is the servant candle, who lit those around Him with His death on the cross. The Holy Spirit is the miracle oil that lights the temple of our hearts...and other such neat teachings, Scriptures, and blessings that will be shared with each night of lighting.

The Lord bless you, and I hope all have a wonderful time of worship in Christ as they honor Him during this month. The Lord bless you.

I find the entire holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Years to be EXTREMELY depressing; ergo, I do not decorate, and haven't for years. The best place to celebrate Christmas is in a Hindu country. I do not enjoy Christmas at all.

money is tight nowadays so.. my family doesn't really do the tree's and lights like we used to. We sort of pick up one of those "Charlie brown" tree's, and put our favorite decorations on it.

We used to completely light 4 30foot pine trees, 45 yards of fence, and the entire outline of our house. However electricity bill is too much, and I do not have the time to do it anymore (plus the pines are now much taller) I have to work when it's light out, and so does my mom, and by the time either of us get home, its far too dark, and we are far too tired, to play ladders and trees.

I used to be a stickler on a real tree. But…. Because we live in an old farmhouse and the tree is 8 feet from the wood burner, well, I thought that it would be a good idea to put up the fake tree.

As far as lights outside, the last time I put up lights, my wife didn’t take them down until May. (you have to use a 20 foot ladder :x ) Since that incident, I’m not allowed to put up lights any more.

I used to do all that when my kids were young, now we're all scattered over the country with jobs/school-(MA, WA, CA).

This, I'll put a tree up and buy 'em a new computer. And cook dinner.

A Hindu country? What about hamburgers?

I've never particulary cared for the "holidays", it has too many negative associations for me. Sometimes I have to visit family and friends I don't really want to see, ever.

Symbols of Christmas: Candy Canes

Dunno if these hang on the tree - never heard of 'em in UK, but it's a lovely story:-

Symbols of Christmas: Candy Canes

But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for
our well-being {fell} upon Him, and by His scourging
we are healed. (NAS) Isaiah 53:5

The candy cane was first made by a candymaker
from Indiana, USA, who wanted it to be a witness to
Christ. He started with a stick of white, hard candy.
White which symbolizes purity, pointed to the virgin
birth and the sinless nature of Christ. The hardness
or firmness of the candy symbolized the firmness
God's promises. The shape of the candy, a "J,"
represents the name of Jesus, and also depicts the
Good Shepherds staff. The red stripes in the candy,
symbolize Jesus' blood shed on the cross, and the
stripes of scourging He received prior to His
crucifixion. The candymaker incorporated symbols of
Jesus' birth, and His life and death.

Although today's candymakers and supermarkets look
at the candy cane as another money maker at
Christmas time, God continues to give us reminders
of His Son's purpose here on earth. Are you losing
site of Christ as we come closer to the celebration of
His birth? What do you need to do today to give Him
His rightful place at Christmas? Reflect on the purity
of His character? Claim the firmness of God's
promises? Proclaim the Good News of the gospel to a
neighbor? Rest in your Good Shepherd's arms? Accept
His death on the cross as payment for your sins?
How will you live out Jesus Christ for those around
you today?

God bless!

It is a nice story, but, it may not be factual, according to a variety of google results:

http://www.google.com/search?q=the+orig ... =firefox-a

And, yes, they are often hung on trees.

We bought a fake tree for the first time this year. It looks pretty nice, actually.

We never do the outside lighting - just too much work, with no real purpose other than impress the neighbors, IMHO.

To heck with 'Happy Holidays'.

Have a Joyous CHRISTmas!

Lovely, this is great! As you know, I am 100% in aggreement with you on this subject. I too, believe in a late Sept./early October birth. I also find great cause for alarm in Jeremiah 10:2-5, but I don't judge those who do celebrate and decorate in December. For the sake of harmony in my family (dad, mom, sister and neices and nephews) I do partake in the exchanging of gifts and dinner with prayer.

They do know, however, how I feel.

I should note that it wasn't customary for Jews of the time to celebrate the birthdays of their prophets, high priests, etc, They were more likely to memoralize their deaths, as we do the death of Jesus.

Yes I have been knowing about Jeremiah 10:2-5 for years. But I don't worship the tree. I just like looking at it. And I have also known for years that Yeshua was not born in December. But I just like looking at the lights ' and that is about as far as it goes. And I also like the Christmas songs. Like the Johnny Mathis' Merry Christmas album that I love to play to death every year. I just like the sound of some of them songs. And I know what is real and what is not real. And some fantasy can be fun. Are we to be so ridgid in our Christianity' that we are not to have fun ? I remember that when I first found out about Jeremiah 10:2-5' I almost went crazy. And knowing how that Christ-Mass' came in the door by the Catholics' and why it came in the door by the Catholics. Sent up a red flag of high proportions. But now as long' as you are not worshipping this stuff' no big deal' well to me anyway. Which brings up a principle' in Romans 14' if you think it is sin. Then it is sin to you. Even though the secular world has seized it' to make money. Christmas brings people together. It is a non-Biblical holiday' that many can share in. And I don't think that this holiday will send you to hell' do any of you ? Because if it does' half of the world ain't going. This is just my take on it.
