Church; Dress code; and promiscuity in the church

“I know I’m inappropriate, but I’m trying to save time. I know I’m in the wrong. My mother would not approve. But would it be better that I not come?” Those were the words of a 30-year-old woman entering church in Maryland wearing a revealing tank top and tight pants.

God bless her, but that’s in the same spirit as saying, “I know it’s inappropriate to cuss in church, but I can’t think of any better way to say it,” or, “I know it’s inappropriate to smoke during praise and worship, but I didn’t have time to finish my Marlboro on the way

I came across a news article raising attention to a rise in promiscuously clad women within the church. It talks about how it can hurt those who struggle with pornography.

So aside from promiscuity, how should someone dress for church?

Is there a church "dress code".

How should men dress as well?

Some cite 1 Corinthians 11:2-6 that women should wear head coverings.

Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

Furthermore, if there is a church "dress code", since the people are the church, shouldn't they always be dressed like so?

I think church dress should be appropriately respectful within the cultural norms. It isn't too appropriate here in New England for men to wear sandals, but when I'm in Hawaii it is...and I'm pretty sure Christ wore sandals as well.

Edward only the levites were to cover their heads. the head covering by the Hebrew males was only during prayer and worship and teaching. not in the home.

round beanie? its called a yarmulke, or skull cap and one other word. but its kept on when one prays and does worship.

To a point yes..... a bathing suit is fine on the beach or pool but not in a meeting.... and that is not to say one could not have a Christian pool party.... Dress code to me would be sorta what the community is.... Where I live new wranglers are the top of the dress code... :)

Sister Price, had not missed a Sunday in years and years and always 'dressed up'.... They went on vacation camping.... something happen to the car and they could not get home....Mr. Price suggested going to church .......she did not have her sunday best... :sad he had to talk her into going ... She did her best to clean up and went to church some place close to where they camped ... She was so embarrassed .... Every one just treated them kindly.... The reason I know this story is the testimony she gave at the home church.... She apologized for looking down on those not dress as nice as she... To those she thought should not be allowed door... God did a work on her heart :)

I used a coffee filter during channukah and also just covered my head when I recited the kaddish over my grandparents last year.

He did.

But he didn't expose much of himself. Didn't he wear a robe?

He did wear a robe, and many men still do today in our congregation. It's called an agbada. Jesus' robe was culturally appropriate then in His Jewish community, and the agbada is culturally appropriate today in our church family.

I have taken a pic of that and sent that to stovebolts with the menorah in hand. I did it then as a joke. I did tell my jewish family about that.i discussed this with my cousin on prayer and that is what he said one could do

So, put on a fake show on how you dress and talk at church. God bless us. How about being your church self all the time?

ok I have a cursing problem and foul mouth at times. yet when it comes to church or being in the presence of believers. I don't cuss as much.

I think "modesty" covers it. If you have to think about whether a certain skirt is appropriate, for example, then it probably isn't. This is out of love for our Brothers and Sisters.

Nathan, asked me one day, what is that coffee filter thingy that jews wear? so I doned one and said like this and added the channukah menorah and posed like the meme.
keep the Han in channukah
. so when I needed to really do channukah I decided to do that for real.lol

Ever comb your hair or brush your teeth or put on the better shirt? Good grief folks will fault everything and anything....

reba, I have never dressed up for church. that is mans idea and I don't find fault with it but well when we die. what exactly will be in when we see Him at the throne? our church's best or what we died in?
