Jesus was crucified on Thursday.
Wrong.
Justin Martyr : The First Apology of Justin C.100-162 AD
But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples,…
It had to be before the Sabbath which began at 6:00 P.M. on Friday.
He was Crucified on Friday, the day before the Sabbath.
The Sabbath (Saturday to us Gentiles) began immediately after sundown on Friday.
So He was crucified on Friday.
Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. (Mark 15:42-43)

Since it has again been awhile, someone new looking in who thinks that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week, and who tries to get around Matthew 12:40 by saying that it is using common Jewish idiomatic/figure of speech/colloquial language may know of some writing as requested in the OP.

Perhaps a further wording of the OP might make it a bit more clear:

1. The Messiah said that He would be three days and three nights in the "heart of the earth"

2. There are those who think that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with the resurrection taking place on the 1st day of the week.

3. Of those, there are some who think that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb.

4. A 6th day of the week crucifixion/1st day of the week resurrection allows for only 2 nights to be involved.

5. To account for the lack of a 3rd night, some of those mentioned above say that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language.

6. I wonder if anyone who thinks that it was common might provide examples to support that belief; i.e., instances where a daytime or a night time was forecast or said to be involved with an event when no part of the daytime and/or no part of the night time could have occurred?

The Messiah said that 3 night times would be involved with His time in the "heart of the earth".
Oi veh. This old schmatta again!
ONE TIME, when Jesus was speaking to the scribes and Pharisees, who were His deadly enemies and to whom He never gave a clear answer, Jesus said He would be three days and three nights in the earth.
EVERY OTHER TIME when Jesus spoke about His death and resurrection, He was speaking PLAINLY and CLEARLY to his disciples and said that he would rise "ON the third day."

Friday, the day of His death is day ONE.
Saturday, the day after His death, is day TWO.
Sunday, the day He rose from the dead, is day THREE.

Luke and Paul say the same thing.

Mat 16:21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Mat 17:23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief.

Mat 20:19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised.

Mar 9:31 For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”

Mar 10:34 and they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”

Luke 9:22 And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Luke 18:33 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' ”

Luke 24:7 The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.' ”

Luke 24:46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day

Act 10:40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.

1Cor 15:4 : … He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

So Matthew, Mark, Luke and Paul all report Jesus saying He would rise ON the third day, not "AFTER" the third day.

Whoever is teaching that "Thursday Crucifixion" nonsense is worthy to be ignored and avoided and certainly do NOT send him any money.

The Messiah said that 3 night times would be involved with His time in the "heart of the earth". However, there are those who believe that the Messiah died on the 6th day of the week and who think that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb or at the earliest to the time between the leaving of His spirit from His body and His resurrection on the 1st day of the week. But this belief allows for only 2 night times to be involved. To reconcile this discrepancy some say that the Messiah was using common Jewish idiomatic language. I am simply asking for examples to support that assertion; i.e., instances where a daytime or a night time was forecast to be involved with an event when no part of the daytime or no part of the night time could have occurred.

This topic is essentially directed to those folks who say that it was common at the time to say that a daytime or a night time would be involved with an event when no part of the daytime or no part of the night time could have taken place. A 6th day crucifixion/first day resurrection would be one example. I'm simply looking for other examples to support it's commonality.
Where in the Bible does it say 3 nights?

Jesus died at 3 PM on Friday
That's day one
Sundown on Friday is the beginning of day 2
Sundown on Saturday is the beginning of day 3
He arose on Sunday morning, still day 3.

Jim Parker,
re: "Oi veh. This old schmatta again!"

And again, your comments are with regard to a different topic/issue.

A sign was asked for by an evil and adulterous (idolatry) group of temple rulers and supposed Scripture theologians who would eventually arrest, hold trial, whip put the Son of God to death.

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you!” But he answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation desires a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah!
Matthew 12:38-39 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Matthew 12:38-39&version=LEB

The prophet Jonah (which the scribes and Pharisees should have known ‘by heart’ says:

And Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God from the belly of the fish and said, “I called from my distress to Yahweh, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried for help— you heard my voice. And I said, ‘I am banished from your sight; how will I continue to look on your holy temple?’ But I, with a voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you; I will fulfill what I have vowed. Deliverance belongs to Yahweh!”
Jonah 2:1-2,4,9 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Jonah 2:1-2,4,9&version=LEB

When Jesus had said these things, he went out with his disciples to the other side of the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden into which he and his disciples entered. (Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, also knew about the place, because Jesus often gathered there with his disciples.) So Judas, taking the cohort and officers from the chief priests and from the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. [i.e. at night]
John 18:1-3 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John 18:1-3&version=LEB

The Kidron Ravine runs all the way to the Dead Sea from the Temple.

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” And taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be distressed and troubled. [see Jonah 2:1-, “I called from my distress to Yahweh”]Then he said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me.” And going forward a little he fell down on his face, praying and saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”

Allen Wynne,
re: "Where in the Bible does it say 3 nights?"

Matthew 12:40.
Okay, but other places it says he rose on the third day, no indication he spent the night there.
These verses need to be reconciled.
Matthew 16:21;
Matthew 17:23;
Matthew 20:19;
Mark 8:31;
Mark 9:31;
Mark 10:34;
Luke 9:22;
Luke 18:33;

chessman,

I don't see where your post #31 provides examples that show that a daytime or a night time was forecast or said to be involved with an event when no part of a daytime or no part of a night time could have occurred.

That is an issue for a different topic. Perhaps you could start one.

My reply has nothing to do with the resurrection but with verbiage.
It Italy if it's Monday and you make an appt for the next Monday, they don't say "See you in 7 days". (one week).
The say "see you in 8 days" because they count the day of the first Monday.

In three days and on the third day could mean the same day...

chessman,

I don't see where your post #31 provides examples that show that a daytime or a night time was forecast or said to be involved with an event when no part of a daytime or no part of a night time could have occurred.
It wasn’t meant to. Nighttime is night time, the time of a day (darkness) within which there’s darkness.
Daytime is the time of a day within which there’s light.
It’s common usage now and then to refer to daytime as a portion of a day. That’s way we all know what’s meant by the usage of daytime versus nighttime. It’s common.

On the otherhand, The phrase “in the belly of the Earth” has no common usage that I am aware of now or in the 1st Century occupied Jewish culture (which is what really matters). People have speculated it meant in the tomb. Maybe, but I doubt it if you actually read Jonah’s prophecy.

I believe Jesus’s distress (1st night) began in the Kidron ravine (that runs from the Temple to the Dead Sea) the 1st night in fulfillment of Jonah’s prophecy whereby Jonah’s distress also began before he ever entered the fish.

So they said to him, “What shall we do to you so that the sea may quiet down for us?” because the sea was growing more and more tempestuous. And he said to them, “Pick me up and hurl me into the sea so that the sea may quiet down for you, because I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you all.”

⬆️ Clearly a type of Christ’ Distress.

Not that you’ve said there is, but there is no conflict with what Matt 12:40 and aThird Day resurrection if you understand ‘the belly of the Earth’ to begin prior to entering to tomb, at Jesus’s distress that 1st night. If you understand ‘the belly of the Earth’ to be His entombment, there is conflict, IMO.

That's what he told the Pharisees ONE TIME and He never gave them a straight answer.
The rest of the time, (9 times, in fact) scripture says that He raised ON the third day.
8 of those times Jesus was explaining it to his disciples.
Mat 16:21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
Mat 17:23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief
Mat 20:19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised
Like 9:22 And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
Luke 18:33‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' ”
Luke 24:46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day
Acts 10:40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.

The third day from Friday (the 6th day) is Sunday, the first day of the week.

Those who peddle the nonsense that Jesus had to have been crucified on Thursday consistently ignore the preponderance of scripture as well as the witness of the very early church.

EX:
Justin Martyr : The First Apology of Justin C.100-162 AD
But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead. iakof the fool
They also ignore the definition of a day clearly expressed and defined in the book of Genesis. A day in Yisraeli time began at 6pm and ended at 6pm, 24 hours later.

Jesus died on that cross, late in the day on Friday and was lain in the Tomb before 6pm, day one. The next day was Shabboth, day two. At 6pm Saturday, the third day began and on that day, the third day, He arose!

Someone new looking in may know of examples.
Hi rstrats, Jesus gave the sign of Jonah as to His death and resurrection (Matt. 12:39-40) Three days and three nights (3-24 hour days). So He could not have died on Friday, for it does not fit three days and three nights. In the original Scriptures in John 19:31 it was not the Sabbath of Saturday, It was a High Sabbath, (Lev. 23:4-8) (The day before preparation John 19:31) Christ death for us was Wednesday evening and He arose by the Fathers approval of the sacrifice on Saturday evening. Evening to evening is a Jewish day. After 6 P.M. Saturday would be Sunday morning to Matthew and The Jew. Below is a more in depth explanation.

chessman,
re: "It wasn’t meant to."

But that is the one and only concern of this topic. If you want to discuss others ones, how about starting a new topic?
