Confessions of the Teenaged Driver

Probably the dumbest thing I've ever done behind the wheel of a vehicle was driving drunk and this was probably the worst. I had a motorcycle when I was young and on more than one occasion I had woke up in the morning and had to look outside to see if my bike was parked in the yard. I absolutely did not remember driving it home. Talk about stupidity!
Ashamed to say I did that as well on my motorbike.

The grace of God sure extended to me on those occasions.
For me and for those I could have caused real grief.

I started driving motorcycle in my 40s. After two minor crashes, I bagged it. I was sober when I ran into the tree and when I wiped out on gravel. Maybe I'll get a Moped.

I'm playing in the candlelight service tonight. Preparing a bit now by listening to the songs and then I'll go hit the music room.
Enjoy, I hope you have a great evening.
When I was younger I used to go the midnight carol service. I loved it.

Fortunately it was a minutes walk so I didn't have to drive there, so no confessions for those occasions :lol:lol:lol

I want to get a motorbike again but the wife won't let me.
Sorry meant to say that after discussing it with my wife I took her concerns on board and decided not to buy one.

My wife put her foot down too. I mean she expressed concern for my well being.

From being so drunk I had to drive with one eye closed
Sadly, so sadly, I've been there. That's one of the reasons I'm bumbfounded at how I escaped my teen years. When I was 19, we used to drive 30 minutes to Windsor, Ontario. In Canada, that was the legal drinking age. It might even still be. On more occasions than I care to say, I don't even remember driving home. A sign of the times. Right thru Customs, blat out our citizenship, and somehow make it home.

No True North for me back in that day. I was a lost soul. Still, He was patiently waiting for me to knock.

Happy Christmas, everyone.

I been driving for 20 years and never even put a dent in any of my vehicles or anyone elses. And I only have only ever had one speeding ticket. Not bad for 20 years driving near every day. Apart from one speeding ticket my driving history is pretty good.

showoff. :lol Actually that is quite qood. I wish I could say that. I haven't had a ticket in years but if you could ticket the slow old fart, I'd get a ticket. When I drive, my wife is like :eek2or :angry3 and I'm just like View attachment 10730

No tickets - although there were times I knowingly exceeded the speed limit.

Only accident was the uninsured driver who didn't see my car in the middle of an intersection and rammed into my car. With cars in the other lane, I had no where to go. Even laying on the horn didn't stop the driver. (That driver was ticketed)

I've found defensive driving is a learned skill, not only to avoid collisions with bad drivers, but also to avoid tickets. Being the fastest car on your stretch of the highway is not being a defensive driver. I may exceed the speed limit, but I'm always careful to ensure there's someone else around me raising a higher flag.

In Michigan, they've passed legislation to raise the speed limit from 70 to 75 in rural areas. This makes it all the more hard to believe we used to be held down to 55 everywhere. I feel like I'm crawling at that speed out on the highway. I'm cautious and patient on city and suburban streets, but I'm all about cruising at a safe steady high speed on the freeway. I just avoid being the fastest one out there. :yes

My dumb incident as a teenage driver was to steal a tankful of gas and escape fast...too fast as it turned out. I blew off a red light and plowed into a car that was crossing the other way.

I didn't get into too much trouble over it being 17 at the time, but it shook me up inside and made me slow down overall.

I had a 50 dollar bill in my pocket when I stole that gas. I also realized that it wasn't worth the free gas now that my car was totalled.

That wreck shook me up so bad that I changed a lot. I started driving defensively, became more honest, and pretty much quit drinking altogether. Even though I had not been drinking when it happened, it was pure teenage stupidity.

I never have had a DUI, (driving under the influence) or anything of the sort. I just didn't want to be that guy.

Nice when you can get the message and receive the message before something horrible happens that you pay for the rest of your life. By the Grace of God, I learned before that happened as well. Any one of the tragedies you read about every day could have been me. That goes for a lot of teenage decisions I made behind the wheel or not. I was a punk.
