Do you think people are being controlled by the media?

you know what i mean

-----

I believe this.

no. why if that was the case then this site by default we should have all the athiest as christians.

and that is also the case then we should be so addicted to tv that we cant live without it.

i dont watch much tv, while i do watch old shows on hulu. but i can go without that.

i dont listen to secular radio or secular music.not even "love" songs.

You may not be controlled by the media, jason, but it seems the majority is being controlled. Would you agree our presidential elections are completely swayed by the media? I think Obama won because of the media's influence.

The media is completely biased and people are gullible. Just my 2 cents.

God bless!

the media has an agenda but he won because those who dont double check the stories bought into him.

what oats implies that we would be so controlled that tis like that old sci-fi alien movie with roddie piper that has the tv off and its send subliminal messages and programs you.

Some perhaps. Someone once said there are three types of people in America. Those who seek power, those who seek truth, and those who just want MC Donald's and Football. The later willingly allows the other two to tell them what to think.

:lol hilarious!

Sorry, I didn't realize, in that case no.
Thanks for the clarification jason -no offense oats.

Are people being controlled? no. Is the media being controlled? Yes, to an intense degree. The media will have an effect on any first world country, but to the extent that it's controlling it's citizens with it? that's pretty doubtful.

to what degree do you consider 'being controlled'?

I definitely believe people are influenced to a certain degree by the media, and whether you know it or believe it Jason, I believe you are too. Do you think companies would spend millions of dollars on advertisement every year if they didn't have the data to demonstrate that it works?

When I first read the OP, I thought this was speaking to the "news media", but I see now it refers to advertising as well. I believe all of it influences some people, even on a subconscious level. Some media messages will impact some people; not all people, but companies spend much more for slightly more impact. But all people are influenced, even if it's a little bit, but some of it.

Yeah, this is true.

I was thinking about how most ideas, or new ideas are brought forth through the media. They're not gonna promote views of any kind contrary to theirs

No, I'm not talking about Soda Pop--

MSNBC is not gonna show the RNC, maybe I'd doubt it.

I know that people take TV very seriously. They feel like it is in out let into the real World....lets face it , it can be.

When I grew up in Jersey everyone would gather round the TV at night, not even questioning the fact that we had No food to eat, we had no clean clothes, and we we're not ever going to make the money the people we were watching were making

It has been since then that I have not like the media, I didn't like how they would rather sedate (by this I mean give you something to think about other than your problems) than help ( provide education through TV, make people motivated, the real way...not with Oprah or Doctor Phil)
I can elaborate this point
--------

I also hated the way money was put on a pedestal, having a nice life was put on a pedestal, and many liberal views.

I can really elaborate on this...

------

The music industry is by far the Worst.....

they sing to you what they want you to sing, and how they want you to feel....

Can you believe this song is popular, listen to the trash

on of the line is the song is "Drug dealing music, I influence, I infuence"

another line is
"Every since they killed my nigga Travis, I have been popping pills and acting crazy"

------

This song is really popular in drug selling areas

hulu. com has no ads or very few. less then 2 minutes per 24 minute of the shows i watch.

and the christian radio has ads from local business that i already know of. yes, influenced but very very limited.

There's a big difference between being controlled and being swayed or influenced. There's no doubt in my mind that the media influences how people think but, ultimately, we make our own decisions. Nobody controlls us.

I don't believe people are being controlled by the media but I do believe the media is extremely influential and unfortunately not very responsible for its actions.
