To all posters here in this thread,

A key Scripture that the Lord has brought to my heart and mind is:

Rom 8:9-11
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. KJV

Rom 8:17-19
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. KJV

Rom 8:21
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. KJV

Rom 8:23-25
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. KJV

These Scriptures testify of an orderly line of experience and speak plainly.

Personally, I think James 1 applies as well...

The counter reformation in Europe during the latter 16th century and early 17th century was built on the essence of James 1:27.

The earlier medieval monasticism was built on the essence of James 2:26.

please explain further, I personally love James 1, find a lot of strength in the words...

As I was driving today , the Lord reminded me about this thread and told me that we must not forget, that after death to self, comes resurrection life. Its just as real and that is the whole of the walk with God. Dying to self is just the first part and we must not neglect to put on the New Man Christ !

Eph 4:22 that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit;
Eph 4:23 and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
Eph 4:24 and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
Eph 4:25 Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

God showed me the "putting away falsehood" is to stop believing the lie that we are still alive, because Gal:2:20 says we HAVE BEEN crucified with Christ and no longer live.

and speaking the truth to each other means, we share the rest of Gal 2:20 as part of our testimony with each other , because we are members of another (the body of Christ) Here is the truth, we no longer live........ but Christ living in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

Very nice and amen...I am often grieved by those who call themselves Christs, but act as if He is still dead, still in the grave rather than living in them and through them...The evidence of things not seen...

1 Cor 11:26-30
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. KJV

2 Cor 4:10-12
10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. KJV

Phil 1:20-21
20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. KJV

John 12:24-26
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. KJV

I believe in asking hard questions, so here goes....

When we read about the crucifixion of Christ, we see a great deal of pain, even pain He endured that would have killed others before He even made it to the cross.

Yet in Gal. 2:20 it says, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

We as a people tend to go around seeking to be pain free, even to the point of thinking that once we come to Christ, all our problems will disappear. I know people who believe that if one lives in poverty they cannot be believers (for example) Of course we all know of people who believe that if we are saved we need not ever be sick. Some believe that we should never be sad or in pain if we are believers.

So the question is this, how can we crucify self and our fleshly desires, if we expect to live the remainder of our earthly lives without pain? Personally, we have had to deny who we are (naturally created to be) in order to follow Christ, and it is very painful. Can we hope to live a Godly life on this earth without pain? Without denial of who we are? Didn't Christ even deny His "Godness"? Shouldn't our Godly lives be marked with "pain milestones"?

This is a great topic. i am gonna answer you back before i read the replies in case the subject got off track LOL Yes i believe our walks should be marked by pain milestones. I believe that we have to deny ourselves which can be painful. What the Lord has taught me is that there is the proper balance. aHave we been given healing by his stripes? YES! May we have to go through a trial of faith where our flesh is cut off where we have to believe no matter what we feel or see, where we have to suffer and fight the good fight of faith. The thing is we have the promise and we lay hold on it by faith but that does not mean that God will not sometimes use that for our good and a trial before we see the end of the faith. The differnce is Yes we have all the promises of God, He will feed us cloth us heal us etc.. but we may have to endure a trial of faith first before we recieve the fulfillment of that promise. This is how our flesh gets knocked down and put under and our spiritual man the inner man grow and grows and bares more and more fruit in Christ!

Psa 133:1 ¶ [[A Song of degrees of David.]] Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Psa 133:2 [It is] like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, [even] Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

Psa 133:3 As the dew of Hermon, [and as the dew] that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, [even] life for evermore.

Now that i read all the replies i am very blessed at the unity of the brethern! We have gone through many trials where the Lord has cut off every ability for us to save ourselves. My husband use to(when he was whole body in the world with one finger in the Lord) yell at me in these trials and say what are we gonna do! All i could say is, we will have faith. He would be so angry and yell back at me many times, Faith is NOT an option! His poor old man went down fighting lol. We have went through no job which means no money to save yourself feed yourself pay your bills etc..., to no electricity, to loosing a car, to loosing a house(by loosing i mean God took them away) having family angry at us for living by faith with ourselves and children, going through a severe illness(cancer)recently with a 40 day hospital stay, having brethern accuse us, having social services called on us twice for things that were not even true and much more(and i know this is NOTHING compaired to what many go through) but in each thing, we put to death the old man more and more and grew in Christ more and more and in each time we saw the promise of God manifest in our situation after a time of fiery trial to produce good fruit in us! God is faithful. Some people stand on the line of everything should be easy God promises xyz... but they miss the promise of God to try us to make us perfect to produce fuirt in our lives. They do not cancel each other out. If we are in a trial we cannot let go of the promise of delivernace. And when we are in the promises we cannot let go of the need for their to be trial.Jesus was made perfect through sufferings it says. We are in all things to be like Him who is our head

The Lord is teaching you his faithfulness. In so doing you are becoming faithful to Him. The training is very hard, yes, and few are they who will allow their paths to be narrowed as you have described....but in this way we make our calling and election sure. Keep up the good fight of faith.

Blesiings to you and your family,

John

We have a friend that testifies to asking God to make him a dynamic believer, afterwards, things started happening and I do not have permission to share any of it with you, but let's just say, it was very...troubling...all that he did and is enduring. In his dispair he cried out to God. God reminded him of another man he knew who was dynamic in his walk and asked him about his life. In that moment, our friend began to realize that it was the struggles, the crucifying self as it were, that lead him to be the dynamic believer that he is today.

Came across this verse this week in the first pages of a book recommended by a poster here...I Peter 4:12, very good verse for why God allows the struggles, the crucifying of self into our lives. Thanks

You are indeed blessed. And btw, most of what you listed and more, we can say we understand from experience. But this then leads to another question...is all suffering an act of crucifying the flesh?

i would say if the person is a believer- and knows about crucifying flesh- then yes. even if it is a chastenement that is still for crucifying flesh. i cant think of anything else it could be other than that?

I have only thought of one exception and even it is tied to self. That of a direct attack from Satan...think the temptations of Christ kind of attacks, or Job kind of attacks, and yet this too is related to the flesh/self...so I think that would be how you interpret the question, any other thoughts?

good points, it reminds me that Jesus was led by the Spirit of the Lord into the wilderness to be tempted by satan- and job was attacked by satan but by God brining job up to satan and then giving satan the lee way to attack him by Gods measure so even in those things it is Gods plan and purpose that is being done which is always for our good, so that we will crucify flesh and bare fruit unto God right/?

We can't forget Joseph either, he said, what man intended for evil, God intended for good...how many times can we say that is our perspective on life.
