C S Lewis said that religions are like soup. Some, like consommé, are thin and clear (Unitarianism and Confucianism, modern Judaism). Others, like minestrone, are thick and dark (paganism, “mystery†religions). Only Hinduism and Christianity are both thin (philosophical) and thick (sacramental, mysterious). I think much of Protestantism has strained all the nourishing bits out of Christianity (the minestrone) and left a thin gruel. Perhaps they have grown accustomed to it and are satisfied with such poor fare.
