CS Lewis: Good Theologian or Inkling Witch?

Why is a fable so very popular among many alleged right-of-center Christians containing sorcery and divination much like the New Age that is unscriptural and arcane? Why do evangelicals like a book praised by occultists in all varieties?
The Narnia books are allegory of life. In this life we experience the struggle between the forces of evil (allegorized by the witch et al) and the forces of good. The leader of the "good" is Aslan, a lion, who dies for the sake of mankind and rises from the dead to defeat the forces of evil. Who cannot see that this is an allegory of the Gospel; that Aslan represents Christ, "the Lion of the Tribe of Judah"?
