Curiosity

Ok, so I am curious. I have read the statement of faith posted here and am just curious.

Where did the idea of this website come about, who started it, is it a group of people at a central local that run it?

I am just curious of the beginnings and how it is run if that makes sense.

Not that I really care, but I would be curious if there is any specific "denominational" ties or specific churches that call themselves nondenominational.

Again, these are all just curiosities of mine. It seems that this is a very well constructed site, very well managed, and seems to have a clear goal to have a place for people of like faith to gather...remotely...lol.

I guess I am just curious because unlike some other sites this one seems different, and I wonder about the background.

Does this all make sense?

I agree. A 'Who We Are' kind of thread. Sort of like a history of CF Net.

Also, I went looking for the 'Statement of Faith' just to reread it and I cannot find it. Where is it hidden?

The SoF is here: Statement of Faith

I was deferring to other mods (I have the lowest seniority) and Vic (the Admin) to chime in, but I'll just say, the site is privately owned by a Christian. Vic and the mods are all volunteers from different denominations across the globe. We differ on some non-salvation issues, but we hold the core tenets of the Christian faith to be True.

It is a labor of Love for Christ that the whole team is volunteering their time for.

That about wraps it up. There is no central location. No, that's not quite correct; we are centered at the Cross. :clap

I no no knowledge of it's origin or inception either. For a majority of the Staff, it's both a place where we can virtually fellowship and a virtual ministry tool.

My congregational affiliation is So. Baptist, but first and foremost, I'm a Christian who loves to study the Bible.

Yup, great summation Mike :)

As far as denomination, ha, that's a point that I know some within the church of Christ would argue :lol

Eh, I just hobble along the best I can with a bit of help from our Lord and savior :clap

Ok. So its not that I am disappointed. My question was vague. Mainly because I do not know how to ask it. But these answerers are also vague. lol

I guess it would be just kind of neat to get to know the people who put this thing together. There has to be some mission in mind, some organization to it.

Its kind of like going to a local church building and not knowing who anyone is really. Like if everyone ran around with "church names"(instead of screen names...lol), and had masks on that showed what they liked(avatars).

I dunno. Seriously, I am not at all aggravated or annoyed by anyone, just curious. But maybe that is the intention, to have a place of anonymity.

The original owner of this site is not around anymore, so that is why no-one currently here doesn't really know about the specific origins of the site.

All of the staff are from various parts of the US, except two, (including myself) who are from Australia.

I attend an Anglican church at the moment, but even though I have been baptised and confirmed in the Anglican church I am not binded to it. If I moved outside of Sydney (where Anglican churches have strayed from the Bible) then I would probably look for a Presbetyrian or Baptist church.

The staff have a mixture of ages. I"m 18, so there are some young adults, some who are middle-aged and others who are a bit older again. So we all bring a whole range of life stages and experiences with us, as does the membership as a whole at CF.net

The Statement of Faith and Terms of Service are both stickies in General Talk. The ToS can also be reached via a link on the bottom-right of the page.

Hope that helped, mate. :)

Hi Nate,

My name is Jeff, and I'm a Christian :)
Specifically, I attend a church of Christ and I love my church family.

I've been on this site since Nov 2004. Tim (Blazing Bones) joined a month or so before I did but as far as the old timers, Vic's the last of the mohekins.

What I can tell you is that this forum has undergone many trials and tribulation in the past, but it's survived and I think we've got a pretty good bunch hanging around now.

What I really liked / like about this forum is that it's an open area to discuss different views on scripture and trust me, we've hear a lot of different views... But with some pretty far out there views, there are some very good views as well, and depending on the conversation, you can really learn a lot either from what other people are teaching, or having to study something from a different perspective you didn't even know existed.

Which brings me to the TOS and SOF. As you see, they've been modifed a few times. Why? Because as we see things, we've had to modify them to 'tighten' things up a bit. It's not that we're trying to be inclusive, but a line has to be drawn somewhere if you know what I'm saying.

Everyone is welcome to participate on the forums and it doesn't matter what denomination you come from. What unites us as one Body, is Christ. :thumbsup
