I wanted to post this in "What exactly do you believe?" thread. I thought it better to do it here.
Because neither side, young or old earth have made it's case, I will give my opinion.
If I am out of place, please forgive me. My intention is to share and have my thoughts questionedâ€â€I am not here to say that I know.
I understand so far that we are created "in" or "within" God and the Son and the Holy Spirit. That means, I think "In the beginning..." means we were created "In" Christ Jesus who is the light of the world (kosmos) and the "beginning" and the "ending." Therefore, I cannot as of yet, understand the first words in the Bible to be within an historical contextâ€â€I understand history to be within eternity. I understand that we have been created within "In" the "beginning" who is our eternal Lord.
Though because of the workings of the calendar, we think of history as a linear concept I have a different concept of of time. Best said by Einstein, Gedanken or thought experiment: think of the earth going around on its axis 24 hrs. and while doing do around the sun 364 1/4 days in a year; now get in a space ship and travel away from our solar system until you can not see the earthâ€â€what time is it? Linear history becomes questionable. To me, eternity became greater than any concept man could devise.
Until Adam and Eve fell, though on this earth and in history, I believe they were living in a perfect and eternal stateâ€â€meaning had they not fallen they would have lived forever. They were in a direct relationship with God the Father.
Because I know the kingdom of God is within us who believe, I know that as more and more come to Christ Jesus, there will be a time when all who live on the planet will believeâ€â€when we have preached the Gospel to all nations (ethnos=ethnic groups) the Kingdom (the end) will come and Christ the ending will be there. There will be no temple therein for God and the Lamb will be the temple of it and the Lamb is the light thereof. And again, we will all know the Father and the Son and reside within or "In" the ending who is Christ Jesus the beginning and the ending.
Prior to becoming a Christian my life study was light. I worked in optics. I was an optician. At the beginning of my Christian life my endeavor was to reconcile physics and the Bible. At first I pondered young and old earth and I could not come to reconcile either with the teachings of the Bibleâ€â€not enough solid proof. I went out by myself for five years and studied the greater part of 1000 books on various aspects of the Bible (history, language, the great theologies etc.) and the history of physics. Though I believe physics is a great gift to mankind from God, I came to believe all things are in Christ and by and through the Son.
I believe Biblical history and I think it is wonderful. I have come to understand that extra-Biblical history is not yet what it should be. My personal perspective has changed from one of an historical paradigm to one of an eternal paradigm. I am looking forward to the coming of the Kingdom and the return of Christ Jesus.
I don't know you folks yet, so if I have made an offense in any way I will discontinue my thoughts on this matter.
Blessings
